The Sword in the Stone Review
Tumblr media
Movie Title: The Sword in the Stone
Genre: Animated Fantasy Film
Main Overview: This movie is an adaptation of the book, the sword in the stone by T. H. White and the main characters of this movie are Arthur, Merlin, and Archimedes. The story starts off with the past King of England dieing and there is no heir to the throne so a magical sword appears in a stone waiting to be pulled by someone, who is automatically fit to be king if they can retrieve it. Years go by and no one succeeds, so England is left in the dark ages with no ruler and no order. Arthur who at the time is an 11 year old orphan, is being taken in by a foster family who came to “save him” but really use him and abuse him for their own self delight. One day when he is supposed to retrieve an arrow that his foster brother lost, he stumbles upon Merlin’s shack in the woods where he is entranced by the magic and powers he possesses. Merlin then decides to take him in as a young wizard and makes himself the tutor of young Arthur. Along with Merlin’s pet owl Archimedes, he makes it his mission to educate and show Arthur the true lessons in life he is missing out on learning, by being neglected by his foster family. Sir Kay or his foster brother, finds word of a festival on New Years Day saying that the winner of the tournament will become the new King of England. His foster parents are ecstatic and immediately sign Sir Kay up and add in Arthur to be his squire. Merlin is not very happy with the position Arthur was given and decides that his training is more important than helping his foster family, causing him to miss practice and eventually get replaced. Fighting between Arthur and Merlin continues until Merlin is beyond upset and decides that taking a vacation is best, leaving Arthur to make decisions for himself. He desperately wants to help Kay become King despite the abuse and mistreatment that he was put through and eventually is reinstated as Kay’s squire. He realizes that he misses his one job of bringing Kay’s sword to the tournament and is directed by Archimedes to pick up a sword that is conveniently placed outside in a courtyard stuck in a stone. He effortlessly pulls the sword from the stone and runs back to the tournament where his foster father recognizes the sword as the one from the prophecy and everything is stopped to a halt. He demands Arthur to put the sword back and prove he was really the one who pulled it and yet again he succeeds and all of the knights cheer and applaud for their newly found King.
Main Challenge/Message: The obstacles that Arthur faces and endures during this movie are not easy to overcome, especially for a young boy. He was brought up in a household where he was mistreated and looked down upon even though he was just like everyone else, but through all this he was determined to stay true to himself and do the right thing. The hardships that he went through as well as the lessons that Merlin taught him showed great difficulty in finding a way to prevail with a good conscience, yet Arthur effortlessly chose the right path each time.
Main Takeaway: The main takeaway that is left with the audience is that goodness always succeeds and choosing to do the right thing will always have good consequences in the end. This is shown through his terrible foster family, as well as Arthur’s own decisions throughout the story. His foster family wanted to cheat to win and always did the wrong thing when it came to making a choice which in the end came back to evidently make them pay for it. On the other side Arthur always chose the goodness in his heart and stayed true to what was right, which in the end landed him finding his true destiny of becoming the rightful King. Seeing this lesson be portrayed on both sides of the story leaves the viewer knowing that each and every decision they make has consequences and that the one who chooses kindness and the good in the world, ends up receiving everything they rightfully deserve. Even though it is portrayed through fictional characters the story and meaning is very easy to understand and follow throughout the entire movie.

Pokémon the Movie: Destiny Deoxys Review
Tumblr media
Movie Title: Pokémon the Movie: Destiny Deoxys
Genre: Japanese Anime Film
Main Overview: Main characters Ash, Brock, May, and Max set off to Larousse City, which is a very high tech and developed city where pokemon and trainers often frequent to battle and gain experience. A few years prior, the rare pokemon, Rayquaza and Deoxys fought to protect their land and a mysterious green egg where researchers or the Lund family are there following and watching the rare pokemon. Tory Lund the small child of the family is caught amidst the battle along with his parents where their lives are almost lost leaving him with a strong fear of pokemon. Ash and Tory bump into each other and end up losing a battle because of Tory’s fear and that leads to them becoming friends and exploring the island together. Deoxys eventually returns to the city where they believe the green egg has been residing for nearly 10 years and begins to shut down the city and anything else in their way of finding the green egg. Throughout Deoxys’s search Rayquaza is eventually alerted and is determined to protect the land they call their own. Their battle begins to destroy the city and so the advanced system starts to evacuate each citizen except for the kids who were out alone exploring the island. This leaves Ash, his friends, and their pokemon to help save the city from being destroyed not only by the battling pokemon, but the city’s “safety” protocols too.
Main Challenge/Message: The character Tory Lund plays a very important role in the overall message of the movie. His past experience of almost losing his life due to pokemon has left him absolutely terrified of pokemon as well as most other humans. His biggest issue is that his family as well as the city he lives in is surrounded by pokemon and everything that comes with caring for them. When Ash comes to town and tries to help him find a way to learn to like pokemon again there is another life changing event that interrupts his teaching. Their lives, including the pokemon as well, are threatened and the only way to survive is to team up and utilize each and every person and pokemon available to counteract the system override of the city. The message that is conveyed shows up and resolves itself in the end, where Tory eventually learns to love and overcome his fear of people and most significantly pokemon.
Main Takeaway: The main takeaway that is left with viewers after watching this movie is that, learning to work together and facing fears can overcome any obstacle that is presented. This movie first showed a tragic event that took place emotionally scarring a young Tory Lund and then showed time pass where he lived hiding and refusing to confront his fear, which controlled his life. He was then thrown into a situation, or more specifically a pokemon battle, where he had to choose between accepting help from his fear or letting it keep control, and he chose to stay controlled. Ash had noticed his struggle and made it his mission to help him resolve his issue, but the catch was that Tory had to accept his own issues before he could make a change. The characters were yet again faced with an impasse where there was a chance of life or death. Tory was put in a situation where if he didn’t learn to like and work with the pokemon around him, he, his friends, and every other person on that island would die. This may seem like a very clear choice for most, but he was blinded by his fear and forced to make a choice which would benefit everyone rather than just himself. So he learned to accept the help and teamwork from not only his friends, but the creatures that he had once been terrified of. The end of the movie shows his personal sacrifice and eventual happiness where he is able to live in peace and harmony with each and every inhabitant of the island. He learned to overcome his fear with the help and support of others, even when there was stress and pressure from bigger issues. Viewers are then left with a gratifying experience of seeing a happy ending and can eventually apply the same lesson to their own life and create a happy ending in reality as well.

Isle Of Dogs Review
Tumblr media
Short overview:
“Isle Of Dogs” is a Japanese American stop motion movie released in 2018. The main cast of the movie consists of Koyu Rankin as Atari, Bryan Cranston as Chief, and Liev Schriber as Spots.
Plot:
“Isle Of Dogs” takes place in a dystopian version of Japan 20 years into the future. In this world there has been an outbreak of canine flu that includes snout fever as well, where the mayor had decided evacuating them would be the best option to get the least amount of people sick. As a result of this, all the dogs were deported to Trash Island where they have resided for many years. The island is a breeding ground for disease and often houses fights between the sick dogs. The main character, Atari's dog; Spots gets sent to the island as one of the very first, and he goes on the journey to rescue his missing canine companion regardless of if he is still alive or not.
Main Message:
Within this story, there are many points and instances where the characters make specific decisions and portray a truly corrupt and malicious side of their lives. The important characters with status include the Mayor and his family, majordomo, and Atari. The mayor had been influenced by majordomo to get rid of all the dogs for practically no reason other than him liking cats more. As a result of this, the dog flu was created by the government, they staged the suicide of the scientist in charge of the cure, lied and spread mass hysteria over the media, and managed to manipulate and control each citizen. With all of this missing information and limited knowledge, it was very easy for the humans to distrust the dogs and for the dogs to distrust the humans. Throughout the movie, those bonds eventually start to mend and the issues and corruptions within the world were fixed and order and peace were brought back to the world.
Main takeaway:
The main takeaway of “Isle of dogs'' is learning to trust others, and learning not to always rely on yourself. This takeaway is shown in both Chief and Atari. Chief in the beginning of the movie describes himself as a stray, with no home, is violent, and often tells Atari that he doesn’t like him. We later learn that he did have a family but ended up being left on the streets because he bit a kid. Because of Chief’s upbringing, he doesn’t trust anyone, especially humans, relying mostly on himself. In the middle of the movie, Cheif and Atari are separated from the rest of the group. When they are separated they have a moment where Atari gets separated from Chief, after Chief tells him that he won’t be coming back for him. Atari is left alone on the brink of tears when he starts to whistle. Chiefs hear Atari’s whistle and makes the decision to come back for him. When this happens Atari hugs Chief and calls him a “Good Boy”. Atari then throws a stick and Chief fetches it. This is the first time in a long time that Chief has ever received any affection from a human. This shows that Chief is slowly starting to trust Atari and be friendly with him. At the end of the movie after Atari and Cheif have found Spots and he has a wife and puppies. Spots want Chief to take his place as Atari’s dog. Chief goes against everything he said he was, in the beginning, makes the decision to have Atari as his master. This shows that Chief trusts Atari so much now that he is willing to have Atari be his master. Throughout the movie, we saw Chief grow from not wanting anything to do with Atari and wanting to be by himself. To learn to trust Atari and want to be with him.

Black Panther Review
Tumblr media
Short overview:
Black Panther is an American superhero movie released in 2018  based on the Marvel Comics of the same name. The main cast consists of Chadwick Boseman as T’challa/Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Killimonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, and Danai Gurira as Okoye.
Plot:
This movie takes place in Africa in the fictional country of Wakanda that is hidden from the rest of the world. Where after the death of T’challas father who was the Black Panther, T’challa must take his place and be the king of Wakanda. We follow T’Challa as he learns to pave his own way as the new king of Wakanda, as he learns the truth about his father.
Main takeaway:
My main takeaway from “Black Panther” is that you are the only person who is in control of your destiny. This takeaway is most prevalent in the main character T’challa. At the start of the movie, we learn that T’challas father was killed, leaving T’challa to take over his place as king. T’challa always looked up to his father as who he should be, and who he thought could do no wrong. This is shown the first time T’challa is fed the heart-shaped herb and he is transported into the ancestral plane. Where he meets his dad and he admits to his dad he doesn’t think he is ready to be king even though he has studied, trained, and been by his Dad's side till his death. Then tells his dad he wants to be a great king like his dad in order to best protect Wakanda, but he doesn’t know-how. This shows that at the beginning of the movie T’challa was still wanting and trying to live up to his dad’s expectations. And he didn’t know what he truly wanted yet. During T’challa’s first encounter with Killimonger, he notices that Killimonger has a ring around his neck that only Tchallas uncle owned. He had been told that his uncle was killed. He then learns that his dad had killed his own brother and left his brothers son in order to keep Wakanda a secret. This is when T’challa starts to doubt his own beliefs and if what he is doing is right. T’challa then goes back into the ancestral plane where he confronts his father about this. In the ancestral plane again he tells his dad that his beliefs to keep Wakanda a secret and leaving Killomonger was wrong. This shows the growth that T’challa had from the beginning to the end of the movie. At the beginning of the movie, he wanted to be exactly like his dad and believed that his dad could do no wrong. But, by the end of the movie, he realized that his Dad wasn’t as good as he thought he was. And to make things right he must follow his own destiny and do what he thinks is right.

All Of Us Are Dead Review
Tumblr media
Short overview:
“All Of Us Are Dead” is a South Korean horror, zombie apocalypse, coming-of-age TV show that was released on Netflix on January 28. 2022. The main cast of the drama consists of  Park Jihoo as Nam Onjo, Yoon Chanyoung as Lee Cheongsan, Cho Yihyun as Choi Namra, and Lomo as Lee Suhyeok.
Plot:
The show takes place in South Korea in the fictional city Hyosan, mainly Hyosan High School where the zombie apocalypse breaks out. With no access to food, water no internet. We follow classes 2-5 as they try to survive and make it out of the school alive and find other survivors along the way.
Main takeaway:
My main takeaway from “All Of Us Are Dead” although it may sound very cliche is that you should learn to trust and rely on others. This takeaway is shown in many aspects of the show. But, the strongest example of this is the character Choi Namra. At the beginning of the series, we learn that Namra is the president of her class. But, she is not really respected by the other students in her class, because she doesn’t talk or interact with them. What really shows how disconnected she is from her classmates is when the zombie apocalypse starts happening at school, Namra had her headphones and was studying while walking straight into a hoard of zombies. She wouldn’t have noticed the zombies coming if it wasn’t for the only classmate who showed interest in her; Suhyeok. Over the course of the show, we slowly see that Namra starts to show care towards her classmates. In episode 3 we see her calling out Nayeon for wiping stained zombie blood into his cut, causing him to get infected and turn into a zombie. Namra could have easily said nothing since she was the only one who saw Nayeon do this. But, she didn’t, showing that she was starting to show some care towards her classmates. An example of her classmates slowly starting to warm up to her is during episode 6 where Namra had been bitten by Gwinam who is a halfbie, meaning Namra didn’t immediately show symptoms of being infected. Resulting in some people in the group not trusting her and wanting her to leave. But, Suhyeok insisted that she wouldn’t hurt them, showing that he actually cared and trusted her. Namra openly expresses her feelings towards the group is during episode 8, around the campfire she says “I wouldn’t really know, but i feel like I have finally made friends”. As we know Namra never had friends before and her classmates didn’t like her. But, here we can see her growth from having no friends or anyone she could trust, to having friends who trust her. During the last episode, Namras zombie urges to eat her friends finally starts to take over, knowing that she has these urges she makes the decision to leave the group by herself in order not to put them in any danger. But, Onjo and Suhyeok notice that she is gone and try to get her to come back showing that they care for her and don't want to leave her alone. Namra knowing she won’t be able to fight her zombie urges forever, runs away for the final time. The lesson of “All Of Us Are Dead” is learning to trust and rely on others, and Namra is the best example of this in the show because over the course of the show we see how she learns to trust and rely on others.
