The Meg 2: The Trench
Tumblr media
I thoroughly enjoyed the first movie. It was fresh and funny. The characters were easy to root for and I enjoyed them. The shark action was just enough, without being over the top.
I went into this one thinking that it would not be as good as the first one. That kind of first time shock appeal rarely works in sequels. This movie was more predictable. Which is ok. Some of the banter didn't work so well this time, but I was OK. I could predict each OH CRAP moment, so the edge was lost a bit. In the long run, I was entertained.
I was thinking that I could have waited for streaming to see it.

Barbie (2023)
Tumblr media
I remember my Barbie, convertible and beach house included. I loved all that. I never had a Ken doll. So, when buzz about the movie circulated, I was ready. I never knew that Barbie was intended to revolutionize how women are perceived. Women didn't have to focus on being homemakers, but also be career women who were financially self-sufficient. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are hilarious in California. America's Ferrera does have the moments of all moments with her speech about the balancing act of being a woman (that really hit me in the feelz). I wish I had a Weird Barbie as a little girl.
I knew that I would enjoy this movie. I enjoyed Great Gerwig's take on Little Women, breathing new life and a depth into the March women. I figured that she would take Barbie and give us something that no one would expect.
There were so many AHA and WOW moments in the movie. How would a "Ken" feel in a world where is an accessory? How does that play out with discovery that there is something more?
I am sure that if I saw this movie a second time, I would find things that I missed. I think the movie had a timely message about gender roles and equity.
Is it for the younger girls? Not so much. But, could young girls still enjoy it? You bet!

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor among Thieves (2023)
Tumblr media
I can't lie. The only reason I wanted to see this movie was Regé-Jean Page. I had a feeling it would be campy and annoying in parts. It was that and then some. But, I have to admit that I loved Hugh Grant as the vile Forge.
I could have waited to streaming for this one. There were some funny moments, but not enough to for me to think that it was worth the cost of a ticket. I noticed that it has a 91% TOMATOMETER and 93% audience score. Just goes to show that there is something for everyone. Right?

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Tumblr media
John Wick 4 had all the action that we have come to expect from John Wick movies. There were a few twists and turns. I spent most of the movie wondering how this would tidy up the John Wick story. I had read about the series, The Continental. How would that be tied into the movies series? There were hints about The High Table, but nothing straightforward.
The movie is 2 hrs and 49 minutes. I probably could have been under 2 hours. I was intrigued by the introduction of Rina Sawayama. I always enjoy Hiroyuki Sanada in any movie.
If you are interested in how creative killing can be, this movie will not disappoint. If you want to see John Wick "win out", you will not be let down. If you are trying to figure out have they could possibly continue the franchise (under the name of John Wick) without John Wick, join the club.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)
Tumblr media
I am happy that I jumped on the one week sneak preview of this movie.  You don’t have to know the prior Knives Out movie to enjoy this movie.  The beauty of Detective Benoit Blanc is that he is timeless.  However, if you haven’t seen the first Knives Out, I would say that it’s worth the watch.
This is a smart and entertaining movie.  From the over the top Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista to the reserved Janel Monet and Leslie Odom Jr, I was invested in each character.  Like with any movie, there characters that stood out.  Edward Norton was great, but Janel Monet was truly fun to watch.  There are a few exchanges with Dave Bautista and Jackie Hoffman.  She plays his mother.  She stole her scenes.  The cameos are a pleasant surprise.
I won’t betray any twist.  I will share that this movie had plenty of surprises including what is obvious.  Just when you think that Blanc is going to tell you one thing, we get something else.  And . . . I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
This is one of those movies that is great fun with a friend or two.  It can make for great post movie conversation.
Enjoy!!!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Tumblr media
I wondered how Ryan Coogler would balance giving us the Larger Than Life Marvel movie we have been waiting to see and paying homage to Chadwick Boseman.  The silent opening MCU montage of only Black Panther spoke volumes of respect.  There were other moments, including Rhianna’s song, Lift Me Up.
The movie started out of the gate with action and great story telling.  There were still undertones of a message about culture, society and how we treat each other.  What I have liked about Black Panther is that there is a message about how resources and cultures/peoples are treated when a potentially power resource is discovered.  The concept of “a means to an end” becomes more prevalent.
There is also the message of how we grieve those we have lost and how it can impact our ability to move forward.  There was a message about having the anger drive us for revenge rather than anything that is potentially productive.
We meet an equally, or possibly a more powerful society, Talokan, an underwater society determined to protect their world at all costs. Check out background details on Talokan, HERE.
The action and acting are good.  Julia Louis Dreyfuss makes the most of her continued role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.  I know some people are not on board with a female Black Panther.  I liked that we see power and ancestral lines don’t have to carried on by the men in the family.
With some of the MCU action scenes, they play better in 3D.  Other than the ending, the rest of the movie didn’t need 3D to enjoy.

Black Adam (2022)
Tumblr media
It is good to be back to action/hero/drool movies.  I have been missing this since COVID.  There have been a few movies out.  Nothing that excited me as much as Black Adam.  It’s not just because it’s The Rock (well, not totally).  We have hope now that we will have some steady entertainment.
Thank goodness for Black Adam.  If you are not familiar with Black Adam, just know that before there was Billy Batson (Shazam), there was Teth-Adam (Mighty Adam).  He was selected as a Champion by the wizard Shazam.  Unfortunately, Black Adam was led by his rage/anger.  He was considered unjust/corrupted and Shazam exiled.  In the movie Black Adam pulled from exile and believed to be the Champion of his people in Kahndaq.
In the movie, the Justice Society is sent to stop and capture Black Adam.  Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone are the crew to undo this God.  I will admit that I have never really been a fan of Hawkman.  But the fight scenes and exchanges between him an Atom Smasher were awesome.  There was something truly noble in his belief that he could stop Black Adam.  Dr. Fate was turns out the be the Real VIP in this movie, pulling a Dr. Strange moment on us (Yes, DC!  I caught that play on a wonderful MCU moment).  I am never disappointed by the cool factor of Pierce Brosnan.
I didn’t see the movie in 3D, but I am sensing that I might need to do so.  Some of the early battle scenes and effects seem 3D worthy.  It will not be a complete hardship to see the movie again.  The only downfall is that we don’t get a long battle between Black Adam and Sabbac.  The Rock was able to pull off Black Adam without one smoldering moment.  I was enthralled by the menacing sneers and glances.  I look forward to his return to the screen as Black Adam.
I would say that even if you are not familiar with Black Adam, the movie will entertain you enough to forget that you are not familiar with the DC anti-hero.  Catch the movie!  Be thoroughly entertained!

The Batman (2022)
Tumblr media
Let me start by saying that I am not a Robert Pattinson fan.  I think I have been severely scarred by The Twilight movies my cousin made we watch.  With that said . .  I really enjoyed his brooding, pained Batman.  His Bruce Wayne left a bit to be desired.  I hate to admit that some of his scenes left me wanting Batfleck.
Zoë Kravitz was decent as Catwoman.  The push and pull between Catwoman and Batman wasn’t annoying, but it was also not necessary.  What was worth my time was Colin Farrell as The Penguin.  He was AWESOME!
The ending was meandering as the rest of the plot.

Bad Boys For Life (2020)
Tumblr media
I was extremely excited about a third Bad Boys.  I was of the opinion that Bad Boys II was better than the first movie.  I am torn about this third installment.  I was hoping that this movie wouldn’t be silly.  It’s stop very short of being annoying predictable.
We have the same formula of the Mike and Marcus.  IT made for an entertaining movie.  But, it definitely wasn’t the same thrill that we got from the first two movies.
This is a decent movie.  You definitely don’t need to place it high on the list.

Little Women (2019)
Tumblr media
Initially I wondered how a remake of Little Women could possibly be any good.  Well, this movie isn’t really a remake. It’s a great spin on filling in the background of a great story.  What was Jo’s life while she lives a life away from her hometown of Plumfield?  What solidifies the love between Laurie and Amy?  We get a deeper glimpse into Meg.  Beth is more endearing.  The movie jumps back and forth, but it is done in a way that is not annoying or confusing.
If you haven’t seen it yet, and you want to see a movie that will make you feel good, this is a great movie.  This is just a feel good movie.  Check it out with a good friend.

Knives Out (2019)
Tumblr media
AWESOME!!!!!!  This movie is great.  I enjoyed the story and the pace of everything.  It was fun to watch.  I loved Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc.  Equally as good was Chris Evans as Ransom Drysdale.
If you want to see a movie that is just flat out entertaining, this is the movie for you.  Take a friend who enjoys a good belly laugh.

Bombshell (2019)
Tumblr media
I watched the sideshow that was the undoing of Roger Ailes and the Fox Good Ol’ Boy club.  I was never a fan of Fox news, but the way that women was treated is reprehensible.  I really enjoyed Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly.  She is extremely convincing.  I like the Megyn Kelly in the movie.  Too bad it seems to be in conflict with the Megyn Kelly that we saw on air.  The composite character, Kayla Pospisil, could possibly help to see how he was able to someone eager and unsure about herself to do what he asked.
John Lithgow is awesome as Roger Ailes.
This movie is entertaining.  Be prepared to become a bit perturbed by the rally cries for Roger Ailes in this movie.  What is frustrating is that I believe it is close to the way things happened and how some of the women in Fox chose to remain loyal to the man who objectified and harassed them.

Cats (2019)
Tumblr media
I grew up loving Cats and a few songs from the musical.  I have been on pins and needles for this movie.  I was so disappointed by this movie.  It makes me sad.  Jennifer Hudson was something to watch.  But, there were things that I could not understand, like why did Grizabella have to look so tragically distorted.  I think I liked Taylor Swift’s Bombalurina.  There were so many distractions in the movies.  They kinda overshadowed a great story.

Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood (2019)
Tumblr media
Mr. Rogers made my day every time he told me that he liked me just the way I am.  I was one of millions who were made to feel that way.  Each day, I he encourage, educated and celebrated the wonder and “WOW” of life.
Tom Hanks is phenomenal as Mr. Rogers.  He is the calm and gentleness that came through anything that I watch with Mr. Rogers.  I will admit that I had to fight a tear or twenty because of the memories this movie evoked.
If you missed it in the theaters, please make sure you see it as a rental.  Share with kids who were not blessed enough to have grown up with Mr. Rogers.

John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019)
Tumblr media
It had been a long 2 years to get back to the day of John Wick being deemed Excommunicado.  The big question was would it leave up to the hype we had all built in our minds?  Heck yeah!!!!!!
I have been Team John Wick since the first movie came out in 2014.  This movie had the action that we had come to expect.  The fight scenes are AWESOME!  There were some great ways to kill people done in this movie. There were 91 kills in John Wick.  There were   119 kills in John Wick 2.  This installment has 167 kills.  What I especially like about this movie was that comedic lines from  Mark Dacascos.  It took me forever to recall that he was the Iron Chef Chairman.  Yes, I know, right?!  Lance Reddick gets from behind the concierge.  And he doesn’t disappoint.  I didn’t even mind the short-lived moments with Halle Berry.  Just when think that it would be overkill seeing John Wick being “John Wick”, you are asking is that all the other people have?  Please!  This John Wick, people!  Just accept the beating, maiming and demise coming your way!
I didn’t see this in 3-D, I just might need to do that.  But, 3-D isn’t necessarily needed.
There is no spoiler here.  I am ready for John Wick 4.

Avengers: End Game (2019)
Tumblr media
There will not be any Spoiler Alerts.  Just a THANK YOU!!!!
May 2, 2008, that was the day that we were introduced to Iron Man, played by the one man who could possibly pull off Iron Man, Robert Downey, Jr.  We have been on a wonderful adventure, seeing our favorites fight battles that decimated cities and built a Superhero dynasty.  You might say that I am putting it on rather thick.  Truth is, I can’t adequately convey how much sheer joy these movies have brought to so many of us.
The humor, action, witty banter and hope (yes, I said hope) was brought into play one more time in End Game.  For those of us who have invested into the MCU, we were not disappointed with this movie.
We may not have wanted to believe that some stories would end, but are excited to see what new stories are coming.
If you have not seen it yet, please do.  I saw in 3-D on the IMAX screen.  I had to do it that way.  I may have to see it one more time.  I know there had to have been something missed while I was wiping away my tears.

Breakthrough (2019)
Tumblr media
There are movies that make us believe. There are also movies that make you think, “get real”.  The story seems too good to be true.  But, this is not one of those movies.  Breakthrough is a movie that makes you believe in miracles.  I was surprised that I liked Chrissy Metz.  I am probably one of the only people who do not like her character in This Is Us.  Don’t hate me.  But, I do like her in this movie.  She is very believable as a mother who willing to believe God for her son’s miracle.
Every character in this movie is likable.  By the end of the movie, I understood that the breakthrough happened for several people in the family and community.  Are we still people of unwavering faith?  Are we unshakable in our beliefs?
This movie is definitely work seeing with believers and non-believers.  If nothing else, they will come away with hope in people.
