I love fanfic authors. I read a fic once and the author said they had a friend who is a real nuclear physicist teach them all about this radioactive compound and how it reacts with different materials so that their fic could be accurate. It was smut.

btw emily wilde is about the courage it takes to love something insensible that doesnt love you back or doesnt love you back in the right way until through the strength of your love and your patience in keeping the love extended you teach it how to love you back in the same way that you love

and it takes courage cause that means living in a period of lovelessness for a long time. getting used to enjoying giving for the sake of giving. pretending you dont want any love back even though secretly you know it would mean a lot

thats the same way in the book people were able to animate nature and turn it into fae - they told stories until it came alive. they spoke until it spoke back

but the courage is worth it because once it clicks, you get back all of the love you gave over a long period of time. all at once

which is why wendell is such a loud fucking presence in em's life. why hes characterised as annoyingly talkative, as boisterous and disruptive. cause poor em has to go through the pain of all of the love she has given to her study of fae all over her life suddenly erupting out of nowhere back at her all at once

which god bless her means she has to put up with wendell being annoying as hell. but like. also means he gets to be a romantic dream come true

honestly i see that as the key difference in their personalities, that means theyre always butting heads and means they complete each other - theyre the difference between love spread over a long period of time and love concentrated all at once in brilliant intensity (symbolised by wendell's brilliant intensity of his golden hair that em is always so captivated by?)

oh, i am finally old enough to know why my parents took so long to grab their coats. why they would ask us to get ready to go only to sit down for another round of coffee. what would i tell myself, at 10 years old? it’s okay. sit down with them too. take in the extra hour with your friend and her family. when you get home, write down every moment in your diary. one day you will be older and you will be waving goodbye to your best friend, and you will turn the key to start your beat up little car engine, and you will look back over your shoulder. her hair will be blowing in the wind and she will be beautiful and you will be, for a moment, struck by all of it. what you will feel is so wide and nameless that it will engulf you. and you will think of being 14 and kicking her under the table in math every time you wanted to whisper something behind the teacher’s back. you will think about how long the days felt, and how you could hold her hand whenever you wished, but you didn’t. and you will think about all of the people you could have lingered with. and you will wish, more than you have ever felt a wish, that the universe just gave you that - more time to linger. more time to say - i love you. i know i need to leave, but i don’t want to leave you. and when i go, i am leaving a piece of my heart that lingers too. 

one more round of coffee. the days are so short, and you are so lovely.
