A The Virago seen here started out as a 1982, 920 with 12 thousand miles that Kurt found in Dallas, Texas. "I love the lines of the Virago once I stripped off over 75 pounds of cruiser weight. Underneath is a beautiful v-twin motor cradled by a steel backbone with a mono shock and shaft drive." With a clean slate to start with, Kurt started first with the motor which only needed new gaskets, upgraded starter and a new Barnett clutch. The frame was de-tabbed, painted and a new rear subframe was fabricated. The electrical system was next. Kurt decided to remove the 5 pound wiring harness and start new with a Motogadget-m system. The Motogadget system replaces all fuses and relays with a small box the size of a pack of cigarettes. Kurt states "the Motogadget unit and switches were so easy to install and operate. It even has a built in alarm and uses a fob instead of a key to start the bike." An anti-gravity mini battery was added to save weight. Next a NOS Mojave gas tank was purchased from a collector. Kurt notes "since I was powder coating almost everything on the bike, I decided to do the tank too." The final product is remarkable. A Moto Lanna seat with red stitching to match the tank was added. For the suspension, a Hagon mono shock at the rear and custom progressive forks up front. A custom 2 into 1 ceramic coated exhaust was fabricated with a Cone Engineering reverse cone slip on. For controls, Tarrozi clip-ons, Magura levers and Joker Machine rearsets were installed. Dunlop 404 tires on stock powder coated black rims were utilized. Kurt decided to keep the stock Hitachi carbs. "I knew the stock carbs could be modified to work correctly. After rebuilding and re-jetting, they work great". A custom air cleaner was also installed. Kurt went to the parts bin for a Moto Guzzi headlight, Ducati front fender and Dime City mini speedometer. Kurt's attention to detail is seen everywhere on the bike from all the custom machined parts he manufactured to the beautiful chrome and powder coated finishes. This Virago runs as good as it looks! According to Kurt "taking all that weight off the beast and adding decent handling really turns the former ugly duckling into a real performer". I agree, and hope to see more custom cafe's from Moto-Von in the future. As requested, a few more photos of the Moto-Von 920, equipped with Motogadget electronics by Kurt von Blanckensee.
