I've been struggling emotionally to draw or paint Yuki and Tooru tbh. And I know what you might think, it's because I'm a Sakura-lover. Actually, that's not entirely true. I didn't use to dislike Kawa Kawa or dislike them individually. I still do like them actually.

In fact, I didn't have any of those negative feelings until the anime happened. which then blew up the love triangle. in a span of 13 episodes, more people who's never read the manga knows Sakura as the girl who did not get chosen by Tooru. I saw someone said that she's acting like a naive girl, like a damsel in distress waiting to be saved by a prince.

Look, I hate comparing two female characters, but in this case, I feel like Sakura is the brunt of this triangle simply because she's not conventionally cute and the fact that she became like the format third character who ruined two people's relationship; when in reality, those two weren't in a romantic relationship, and Sakura was trying her best to pursue her romantic interest, which isn't a sin, I might add.

Also, it's funny how it's accepted when cute Yuki refuses to speak up and skips school cuz she 'doesn't speak up when she wants something', but some fans will say that Sakura is weak and a pushover for giving up??? She knew that Tooru didn't reciprocate her feelings, which is more than most 2nd lead in mangas could ever do, and she accepted it, cried, yes, because it hurt, and then moved on from it.

I think it stuck with people that she's the one that didn't get chosen, more than any of her other traits. Which pisses me off. That left a nasty bitter feeling in my mouth.

If you've read the manga, you'd know that Sakura is more than that.

1. She's funny. Her expressions and reactions are so funny (to me lol).

2. She's feisty and she argues with Sengoku. There were times in the manga when the two fought and I feel like more people need to see that to know that Sakura is not weak or a pushover.

3. She's the better cook among the three council students and she gets MAAAD when Remi and Sengoku didn't bring the right ingredients to cooking class because those two are just....idk, such terrible cooks lol.

4. Sakura is a manga lover. She reads the Konoha manga, biweekly (i think??) and gets excited over its release every time she goes to the store to buy it after school.

5. She's kind and understanding. Sakura planned with Sengoku to buy Remi the expensive biscuits if she scored higher than 60% in her test and even tho Remi said she couldn't be swayed by biscuits, she and Sengoku bought them anyway because they knew that Remi worked hard for it.

6. She realized that Yuki and Tooru had feelings for each other and decided to stop pursuing Tooru.

7. Sakura may be plain, but her friends didn't judge her for it. In fact, if you don't like Sakura, you can't be friends with Remi. It's a known fact. Remi wouldn't allow anyone to get close to her in middle school except for Sengoku because Sengoku didn't judge her for having Sakura as a friend, or worse, called the duo 'beauty and the beast'.

In one of the chapters, some side characters wondered how did she get to be friends with the whole squad when she's plain and serious, and they realized (albeit they had the wrong exaggerated impression of it) that the whole squad accepts her just as she is.

8. Sakura is smart. She and Hori helped Remi and Yuki do their homework during the winter break and the two were freaking out since they've tried their best to teach but the other two were slow to understand the subject.

9. Besides, she's the one that Hori went to for Valentine chocolate advise and Sakura is a good listener and a wise friend who told Hori what she needed to hear. She's the friend that advised Sengoku when he couldn't bring himself to go to Remi's house because BUGS.

10. She is shy and serious. That's Sakura's trademark, yeah, but that's not all she is.

11. Sakura knows she's not pretty or cute. She knows. She knew it long before anyone told her. It's mentioned when she had feelings for Tooru. It's mentioned when Akane called her cool, and she said she's not cool but okayy,,,and then she wished that he called her cute instead but she knew it wasn't gonna happen because she's not cute.

I just---I have so many feeling about how much I love her character, but now, this feelings is also paired with a bitter feeling for the triangle and the Kawa ship, making it very hard for me to draw or paint them individually or as a couple.

tl;dr Sakura is more than a plain, serious bespectacled girl who got dubbed the sad girl who wasn't chosen by Tooru. She has other characters and depth.

Setting aside the age controversy, I just don't get SessRin as a pairing because Rin is not a character. She's just a prop for Sesshōmaru's character development.

What is her personality besides simply "child"? She's cheerful - like a child. She's obedient to Sesshōmaru - like a child with a trusted adult. That's all there is to her. Can anyone name a hope, interest, or motivation of hers that isn't related to Sesshōmaru?

The only explanation I can see is that people ship it because she's a blank slate they can self-insert into. And that's why they take criticism of the ship so poorly - criticizing SessRin really means criticizing their fantasy relationship with their dream anime boyfriend. If Sesshōmaru doesn't love Rin, then he doesn't love them.

Until anyone can explain who Rin is as a character outside of her relationship to Sesshōmaru, I will never understand this ship.
