Aro culture is my mom probably being the most normal person about my aromanticism, I haven't really told her I'm aromantic specifically but a combination of "I've opted out of romance" + "dating isn't in my future" + "all (2) of my crushes were me mistaking strong friendship for romance" has probably gotten the point across and somehow she's just like "yeah, makes sense" without any amanormative bullshit. This is a 40yr woman who's persisted with love despite the harm it's done to her (with previous partners, not her current one) who can also accept that that's not how some people want to live their lives. I appreciate her immensely for this, like people can just be normal about it but they don't and she proves that.

I think one of the goals of society should be that someone who requires expensive medicine and a lot of care can live an amazing life, the longest life they possibly can, with dignity, even if they have no friends or family or anyone who cares enough about them to help. the goals of a society should be to make life better than if we are alone, society should want life to be as good as possible for as many people as possible, and those goals should account for people not having social support networks.
