WE SUPPORT MOREHOUSE Dear Morehouse Brothers and Friends: On Sunday, May 19, Morehouse conferred bachelor's degrees on more than 500 new Morehouse men! This great occasion was made even more special by the presence of Barack Obama, the first African American president of the United States, who delivered the commencement address -- a truly historic moment in the life of the College. The graduating class, their families and friends, alumni and members of the Morehouse community were mesmerized -- despite the thunder, lightning and pouring rain -- as President Obama spoke about the responsibility the graduates have to pursue excellence and set an example for others, in both their personal and professional lives. President Obama acknowledged several young men for their perseverance and accomplishments, including Frederick Anderson, who enrolled in Morehouse not once -- not twice -- but three times! The first two times, he had to drop out and go to work to take care of his family. But Frederick never gave up on his dream of earning a Morehouse degree, and on his third try, he did. President Obama said: "…today, Frederick is a family man, and a working man, and a Morehouse Man. And that's what I'm asking all of you to do: Keep setting an example for what it means to be a man." Let's set our own example of generosity and financial support for all of the Fredericks out there -- young men with the intellect and character to become Morehouse men who may need a little help to do so. Please join us in this important effort -- and at the same time reaffirm your love for Dear Old Morehouse and the leadership and vision of John Silvanus Wilson Jr. -- by signing a letter of support and making your donation to the College today. Forever Morehouse! Reverend Otis Moss III '92 Reverend Raphael Warnock '91 Reverend Jawanza K. Colvin '97 Reverend Steven Carter '98 Reverend Otis Moss Jr. '56 PS. We need your help to spread the word and get even more support for Morehouse, Dr. Wilson, and future Morehouse men. So, please forward this email to your friends and loved ones who are part of the Morehouse family.

1. Morehouse College, Atlanta: This liberal arts college for men is considered a member of the “Black Ivy League” with academic rigor similar to Johns Hopkins and MIT. Many Black leaders in business and civil rights have roots at Morehouse, including Martin Luther King Jr. The freshman retention rate is just over 83 percent and indicates the level of student pride. New this spring, Morehouse is offering a LGBT course. The course is specific to LGBT history in the Black community and is the only one of its kind.
This list of the nation's Top 20 HBCUs in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education's online Diverse Conversations section lists Morehouse College as No. 1.

Morehouse Among Recipients of $1million Study Abroad Grant
Morehouse was awarded a $150,000 grant from the Coca Cola Company for the Morehouse College’s China Study Abroad Programs: Coke Scholars in China. This grant will enable 6 students to participate in the semester abroad program and enable 20 students to visit China next summer.
The College’s Chinese Studies Program aims to prepare its students to play a key role in the fast-growing political, economic, and cultural relationships between the United States and China in the 21st century. With the generous support of the Coca Cola Company, Morehouse is able to provide a well-designed study abroad program in China which is the best way for students to experience and to learn about China.
Right now, there are approximately 75 students studying in long-term programs (one semester or greater) and approximately 150 students studying in various short-term programs throughout the world.
The grant, which is part of a $1million commitment from Coke to several institutions, will allow the Morehouse Chinese Studies Program to provide scholarships to Morehouse students to study abroad in both summer short term programs and semester-long programs. The scholarship will be merit-based and will include air fare, tuition, room and board, and cultural activities.
