I think Louis killing the racists is great bc I think it's possibly the reason Louis was okay with killing for so long. In the books both Lestat and Claudia use killing as a power fantasy, Lestat had been raped, Claudia would always be a little girl but in killing they could feel powerful. Claudia and Lestat don't exactly approach this in a healthy way, they kill victims who look like them for Claudia the poor and mothers and daughters, for Lestat youth. While I can't remember if Gabrielle chooses victims in this manner, she is clearly liberated from the constraints of society by vampirism. In the book Louis has no need for this power fantasy as a wealthy slave owner, he already is among those with power so he doesn't get the appeal of vampirism in the same way the other 3 do, as a gift of power. In the show when Lestat offers vampirism to Louis, this is the first thing he points out, how Louis feels shackled by society and offers Louis vampirsm as a way out. And by showing Louis killing racists and buying the Fairplay, it shows that it works, but only for a little while. Once he is tempted to eat his nephew the cons outweigh the pros and so begins the rat eating Louis arc. It's different from the books, Louis rejects eating humans much faster in IWTV, but I can understand why they went in the direction they did
