Scars
Pairing | Toby Cavanaugh x reader
MINORS DNI. 18+ only!
Toby watches from the doorway as you meticulously finish organizing the flowers in front of you. He always thought the way you paid great attention to detail was admirable. Toby waits until you’re finished before alerting you to his presence.
“Morning.”
Smiling, you look over your shoulder at him, “Morning, babe. Where’s Lex?”
“Your mom has taken her out for lunch, then they are going to the movies.” He places a cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin down on the table next to your house keys. “I brought you this; I thought you might need it. What time did you sneak out here?”
“Five in the morning. I only went back into the house to give Lexi her breakfast.”
He gives you a disapproving look. “You’re working too much.”
Since your landlord terminated the lease of your apartment without much notice, you had moved back into your mom's house; not that she ever complained, but you still felt guilty. Not only had you taken over her house, but she allowed you to put up a small greenhouse in her backyard so you could continue running your own business as a florist. You and Toby have both been working overtime to put extra money towards building your new home.
But in truth, you have that much on your mind; work was a good distraction.
“It’s my own fault. I overbooked and needed to finish the Dioxin’s flower arrangements by nine this morning.” You turn back to the table and start cleaning up. “When are you leaving for work?”
“In about twenty minutes.”
“You’re really tense.” Toby comes up behind you and squeezes your breasts. “I can help with that.”
“What if someone sees us?”
“Nobody can see us in here,” he nuzzles his face into your neck.
Keeping your back close to his chest, Toby unbuttons the top of your dress and pushes your bra up so he can feel your warm skin against his hand, lightly pinching your sensitive nipple between his finger and thumb. His other hand starts creeping underneath the bottom of your dress until your work phone starts to buzz.
It was only a text message, but without looking, you knew who it would be from.”
Giggling, you swat Toby’s hand away playfully and start buttoning your dress back up. “Sorry officer,” you peck him on the lips. “But we will need to finish this tonight.”
“It’s a date,” when he goes to leave the greenhouse, he points at the cup of coffee. “Remember to drink and eat. Love you.”
“Bye, babe, I love you.”
Watching him walk away, your chest becomes heavy with dread. You should have just told him the truth in the beginning. Toby was a good man, and the guilt of keeping a secret from him was weighing heavily on you.
—
You get a sense of deja vu going into the Hastings house; you hadn’t been inside it for years, yet being there reminded you of high school. Your older sister was always with her friends and would sometimes drag you along for sleepovers at Spencer’s when she was supposed to be babysitting you.
“Thank you for seeing me, Mrs. Hastings; I know how busy you are.”
“Please, Y/N, after all this time, call me Veronica. Coffee?”
“No thank you; I’m maxed out for the day.”
You sit down across from her in the living room and nervously play with the bracelet on your left wrist. Veronica was running for state senator, and taking time out of her busy schedule to speak with you for free as a favor to your mom was incredibly kind of her.
“I don’t even know how to begin; this whole thing is a mess.”
Veronica leans across the table, places her hand on top of yours, and gives it a gentle squeeze. “Your mom explained things to me. Even if there is not a child arrangement order in place, a court is unlikely to look favorably on an absent father taking a child away from their mother. Is Lexi’s father listed on her birth certificate?”
“No, he wanted nothing to do with her at first. It’s only been since he got back with his ex that he now wants to play happy families.”
She gives you a sympathetic nod. “Does any of his family have contact with her? Grandparents?”
“Her grandparents on his side don’t acknowledge her existence. Although her uncle Eric does, he comes to Rosewood every few months and spends time with her. He texts for updates and sends me money every month to put towards her college fund.”
You swallow thickly, noticing Veronica was now taking notes. “Has a DNA test ever been done?”
“He demanded one when Lexi was born, then vanished when the results came back. Did my mom tell you who her father was?”
Veronica nods, “She did, and I won’t tell anyone. She also said Hanna doesn’t know who the father is. Is that true?”
“He wasn’t in Lex’s life, so I didn’t think it mattered.” You also didn’t want to hear a lecture from her about how stupid you had been. You loved Lexi with all your heart, but her father was an asshole you hooked up with one night when drunk. “He hasn’t shown interest in three years; I don’t know how he can just turn up and threaten to take her from me.”
“Oh honey, he won’t ever get to do that.”
Tears start to roll down your cheek. “His family is much richer than mine; they could say he can give her a life I can’t.”
“They may have money, but you have a support system who will help you fight this every step of the way, if this even goes to court. My guess is Lexi’s biological father is trying to impress someone and is trying to make it seem like you are keeping him from his daughter unjustifiably instead of admitting he’s a deadbeat. You have a loving family and two jobs, both of which you run yourself.“
“You are the first person aside from my mom I’ve spoken to about this.”
“Toby doesn’t know?”
“No,” you admit, ashamed. “Every time I go to tell him, I just see him and Lex together, and they look so happy. I was afraid of ruining that, but I’m going to tell him tonight.”
“I’ve known Toby a long time; he’s a good person and dotes on Lexi. How long has he been in her life?”
“Before she was even born,” you smile at the memory. “He drove me to ultrasounds and helped me build her crib when we were still just friends. We’ve been dating for just over two years, but we kept it quite in case something like this happened but most people now presume Toby is her biological father and we just don’t say anything, and let them think that.”
“Hm, if I remember correctly, Toby was never a fan of the sperm donor.”
Aside from your mom, Toby, and Mrs. Hastings, nobody else in Rosewood knew Noel Kahn was the father of your child.
—
You’re so engrossed in staring at the screen in front of you that you don’t hear Toby coming into the bedroom. You’re completely oblivious to him being there; he’s there until you feel him brushing your hair to the side, then his lips against the side of your neck.
“Hey, when did you get home?”
“I got back a hour ago but thought you might still be recording.”
As well as being a florist, you run your own podcast discussing horror films, TV shows, and the true crimes they were based on. It wasn’t as lucrative as other jobs, but it was flexible and a good way to earn extra money. “Sorry,” you sigh. “Sorry, I finished ages.”
“Everything okay?”
You nod, “Yeah. No, its not… It’s just more things piling up on one another.”
Toby starts undressing out of his work uniform. He raises his brows at you. “I can’t help unless you tell me what’s going on.”
“Hanna is coming back to Rosewood.”
“I thought you’d be happy about that.”
Clicking your tongue, you unlock your phone and read out the message she sent you. “There isn’t much time, but I wanted you to see these words on paper and not a screen. I wanted to know you were touching something I touched and that we are connected. We’ve been through things no other has experienced. We understand each other better than anyone else in the world. But all that connects us to someone else. Someone I love. Someone who needs me. I know you’re coming back to Rosewood to speak to the court about Charlotte being released. I’m asking for five minutes with you. Five minutes to explain. Five minutes that can change the whole world. Spencer, Aria, Hanna, Emily. I need you. Please. All my love, Alison.”
Sitting down on the bed beside you, Toby's demeanor changes. “So it’s at Alison’s beck and call; they are coming back.”
“It looks like it. I got a letter from the court asking for me to go in and tell them how I feel about Charlotte getting out.”
“And how do you feel?”
“Like, it’s the last thing I want to think about. I have something else I need to tell you. Noel wants to take Lexi.”
“What?”
“He approached me a few weeks ago when I was grocery shopping and told me he was going to go for full custody.”
He jaw tenses, “Anything else?”
“My period is late.”

It’s literally disgusting how many old freak pedos slither their way into the ED community. Those types of people are literally as low as it can get.
Reblog if you do not welcome pedos anywhere near your page‼️
