I love characters who act selfishly to protect the people they love. Absolutely will 1000% hit that trope like a line of coke. I have no moral qualms about this.

ngl oxenfree 2 was kinda disappointing 🧍♀️ no replay value imo, the characters don't rly form a relationship with each other and weren't as likeable, you're choices don't have as much impact and it just wasn't scary?? I literally pissed myself going to fort milner to rescure clarissa in the first game and the jumpscares added in second playthrough were so effective.
(spoilers for oxenfree 2)
the map was bigger but I felt it was just tedious to navigate it bc there wasn't much more content compared to the first one. the plot twist felt rly out of character for alex and they didn't even go through with it 😭
olivia wasn't very effective as a villian either bc she was just a desperate child whose friends didn't even stick up for her, I just ended up feeling sorry (and a bit annoyed) for her more than seeing her as an actual threat. the ghosts weren't threatening either and didn't seem to try to stop riley at all so idk what their point even was... the whole rex and riley story was very weird too. riley being pregnant with the child we've beeen seeing in her flashbacks was sth I didn't see coming but I couldn't get myself to care that much bc we had already seen, that she would have a terrible relationship with him in the future, which was further comfirmed by alex so??? idk why that would influence my decision by the end in any major way other than just going by which character I liked a little less. so much wasted potential in that regard imo bc if they had made her a wonderful mother in the future and have a strong and loving relationship with rex, it would have been a bigger question between sacrificing an already existing child that is desperate to rejoin her beloved parents in what is basically death or sacrifice rileys future with her beloved child.
idk there were so many things that didn't sit right with me but I didn't pay full price so it's fine. regardless I'm kinda sad with how lack luster this sequel was :/

No moment in any horror game will ever be able to be scarier than that time in Oxenfree when you’ve become aware something very supernatural and very bad is going on, but not what yet, and you’ve been picking up clues and bait and threats on the radio from whatever is here as you go, and walking around a decommissioned army base with Jonas trying to find Clarissa before she gets hurt, your radio picks up a signal that in Bugs Bunny’s voice goes “Mmm this looks like onea them there booby-traps.”
Literally no jumpscare, singing nursery rhyme, ominous music has ever had the raw power of that.
#just finished my first oxenfree playthrough and i'm obssessed#i can't do jumpscares or first person or chase scenes so this was perfect#I also love a choice based game i can play through multiple times gaahhhh#such a slay#the whole abandoned military base trope with a radio as your tool is so good#oxenfree
