what I like about the last two episodes, upon reflection, is that they’ve both ended with Cas clearly feeling joy. 14x08 ends with the kind of gentle human family domesticity that Cas was willing to die to protect, and 14x09 has a purposeful comrades-in-arms moment that once again codes for family in Cas’s mind - when he was an angel, riding to battle together is what passed for closeness and togetherness, and so him being able to replicate it with his human found family is incredibly powerful. they are both so incredibly joyful (literally, in the case of 14x09).

and yet!! clearly neither of these moments are the happiness that Cas refuses to give himself permission to feel. so what is it? What is it?? WHAT. IS. IT?????

he watched him rake leaves

misha collins acting choices when cas was watching dean rake leaves and also when cas was watching dean argue with sam and bobby about whether they can still trust him (cas). tjhe full 180 degree swivel to follow him into the other room with just the most devastating expression of longing and loneliness

cas killing those demons and looking at dean afterwards and asking if he’s ok and in the voiceover its like “for a brief moment I was me again” its the way he has existed for 4 billion years but he’s most himself when he’s with this 1 guy. barely a blip in the cosmic scale but also hes the center of the universe to cas and the whole reason he is who he is

“I was there where were you” and cas KNOWS hes right like you know he knows because he thinks back to Watching Dean Rake Leaves. dean WAS there and all he had to do is ask but he didn’t because he thought dean was better off without him. where were you? you were there but you didn’t say anything

deans sexy little orpheus (or, if you prefer, lots wife) moment

best thing about 6.20 the man who would be king: this moment and the way they are silhouetted like this. absolute lovers quarrel shit. there is no way sam and bobby weren’t also in the house listening to them have their dramatic old married couple moment at like 2 am. nobody comes storming in like “dean we heard yelling is everything ok” which I am taking to mean this kind of thing is like…. par for the course
