Overview
Many people are quick to judge in our society. Mommy wars has been an issue for years now. It hasn’t only been about if a mother should choose between a career or being a stay at home mother; it actually goes into every choice that a mother needs to make that is in regards to raising their child/children. A lot of mothers listen to what the media says instead of doing their own research which can harm them in the long run. The topic of mommy wars is a convenient way to divert the attention from the real issues prevalent in the household. There are real issues that includes: childcare, gender equality, father roles, wages and benefits, and equality between parents. We need to direct the attention back to what consists of good parenting and how that could be achieved.

The Mommy Wars, as they stand today, serve as an effective check on the ambitions of the American mother. The phenomenon keeps women in a perpetual state of guilt, shame and inadequacy, and does so without involving anyone but wealthy white women.

I’ve come to believe that men and women respond quite differently when problems at home force them to recognize that their absence is hurting a child, or at least that their presence would likely help.… Many factors determine this choice, of course. Men are still socialized to believe that their primary family obligation is to be the breadwinner; women, to believe that their primary family obligation is to be the caregiver. But it may be more than that. When I described the choice between my children and my job to Senator Jeanne Shaheen, she said exactly what I felt: “There’s really no choice.” She wasn’t referring to social expectations, but to a maternal imperative felt so deeply that the “choice” is reflexive.

In reality, working mothers have shown positive outcomes to children development. Employed mothers were more authoritative than non-working mothers. In result to this, children with employed mothers were rated higher in peer social skills and showed more leadership skills than children of unemployed mothers. Higher academic achievement, greater career success, and greater occupational commitment were some of the results of having a working mother according to research. Children with non-employed mothers have exhibit more shyness.

Here's a fascinating finding: More than half of all moms -- 55 percent -- would change their current situation, whether they're employed or at home, if they could.
And perhaps most surprising: 51 percent of the SAHMs in our study said they're home at least partly because of "insufficient pay or pay that doesn't make up for the cost of child care." Sixty percent said they would get a job if there were more options for part-time work or quality and affordable day care. Nearly a quarter (24 percent) said that being unable to find work figured in, while a third (33 percent) cited an inflexible work schedule. And a small percentage (7 percent) said they were home to address their children's unique health or learning issues.

Dear Exhausted Mother Who Fell Asleep On A Bench At “Fun 4 Kidz”…I got you. Your little girl was thirsty, I gave her water. She hit her head coming down the big purple slide, I gave her a hug. It’s been an hour since you fell asleep, I won’t leave ’til you wake up…hopefully rested and ready to face the weekend with the warrior-energy us mamas need to parent with a smile on our faces.

About 75% of new mothers stated that they have opted to breastfeed their infant. With that being said, the natural instinct for most women when they become mothers is to assume that they will breastfeed their children. The percentage of mothers in the United States choosing to breast feed has declined since the middle of the 20th century. This occurred more within the middle and upper class which was indeed in association with baby formula being readily accessible from every grocery store.

If a mother decides not to do things of the “norms” of society on raising their own child, it always starts raising questions. Other people always seem to pressure mothers when they observe something different from their lifestyles. In regards to vaccinations specifically, mothers are given many different types of vaccines that the child does not necessarily need but still opts in to get the vaccination because “most” infants get the specific vaccine without prior background knowledge or education on the side effects.
