For the second time the City of Budapest presented MOME Photography MA students during Art Market Budapest in October. We organized one-day exhibitions showcasing Alumni, current projects and portfolios. As a special surprise Kirsztina Szalay won the Budapest Award for Young Talents with her diplomawork and photobook about the chinese market in Budapest.

Pierre-Jêrome Jehel, professor of Gobelins, Paris held an astonishingly inspiring one-week workshop. The course was titled Invisible and it ended in a pop-up exhibition of student projects discovering the theme through a caleidoscope of photographic approaches.

Stress Position, the exhibition of our MA students opened in KAS Gallery. Works of Anna ALBERT, Noémi ÁRKI, Dávid BÍRÓ, Boglárka KOKAVECZ, Nikolett KUSTOS, Máté LAKOS, Andrea SÁRKÁNY Andrea, Tamás SÓKI, Sára SZATMÁRI, Janka SZITÁS and Orsolya URBÁN discuss the relation of weakness and streght through various personal stories revealing the current status of our society. MOME Photography students took part on the kick-off meeting of BredaPhoto Festival during the last weekend of September. The event was organized in Breda (NL), highlighted by speakers René ten Bos and Koert van Mensvoort addressing next years theme of the festival: To Infinity and Beyond. A competition between students of the eight invited universities and academies begins now to determine who will exhibit alongside the big names of the festival!

Mátyás Erdély, cinematographer of the Oscar-winning movie Son of Saul speaks of the dialogue between film and photography, and photographic inspirations of movie makers, recalling his own such inspiration and experiences during the shooting of Before Dawn, one of his shorts.

Professor Miklós Gulyás, Szilvia Mucsy and Gábor Arion Kudász open the exhibition of Photography Master students titled NewCity in the program of Budapest Photo Festival.

We began April by opening an exhibition following a one-week workshop examining the correlation between memory and fiction. Photographer David Favrod led MOME students to focus on their personal experiences and the possibilities of expressing the unspeakable, while in his wednesday evening lecture he offered a deeper insight into his working methods.

Congratulations to the 2017 Photography MA graduates: Panna Donka, Réka Hegyháti, Attila Kozó, Barnabás Neogrády-Kiss, Marcell Piti, Benedek Regős, Krisztina Szalay, Sára Erzsébet Timár, András Törcsi, Balázs Turós, Boglárka Zellei! A big thank you goes to the excellent jury this year headed by Balázs Kovalik, and it's members Sári Ember, Kata Oltai, Gergely Szatmári and József Mélyi! Here we are gathering at the end of an exhausting two days of thesis defence.

With her project for the BA third-year autumn assignment Zsófi Sivák wins first prize at the 35th Hungarian Press Photo Awards in the category of Daily Life series. She also received the title of the most successful photographer under the age of thirty. 'Józsiék' is an outspoken and hearthwarming series about a family in her hometown.

The intensive courseweek ends with an exhibition of the stunning results of Márton Perlaki's remarkably dynamic workshop. Participants reacted to several flash assignments each day to compile a circular narrative by the end of the week.

Students are inhabiting our temporary home at building Z at the Danube-bank while the old MOME campus goes through a complete modernization. BA and MA evaluation week of the autumn semester in January with exhibitions and student presentations.

The 2017 spring semester starts with a momentum. Our guests, Anthony Marchetti and Márton Perlaki, two photographers from the US with hungarian connections in conversation with Gábor Arion Kudász. Mr. Marchetti introduced us to the thinking behind his ongoing project tracing back his family memories and history through a lost hungarian relative 'Paul', a series he works on as a Fulbright fellow and guest teacher at MOME. Mr. Perlaki discussed how a fashion commission and artistic ambitions meet in a book project he is just about to finalize following his successful and lovely book 'Elemér'.

In October 2016 students of MOME and Belfast School of Art met with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The workshop begun with a lecture by sociologist Pascal Gielen, followed by an intense week of individual and group projects, soundwalk with sound designer Csaba Hajnóczy and student presentations.
