I firmly believe that my (Chinese) mom is more Italian than my (Italian) dad. She earned multiple advanced degree in Italian history and studied abroad to learn how to speak the language fluently. She fought for it. The hell did he ever do? He grew up eating slightly more pasta than other kids in the United States. He was born into it. Fucking nepo Italian

my fav thing about this country is how we’ve just given up on the dept. of transportation at this point.

Saga & I needed to drive to a doctor appointment so we got on the interstate and in five minutes pulled up to a traffic jam.

apparently there had been a major crash down the road two HOURS prior and the entire interstate was closed. but the issue was we had no way to know any of that.

do we have a text alert system to inform the county the interstate is closed? no, but maybe people would complain about the texts so that’s fair I guess. surely there’s an AM radio station with traffic condition updates? oops, not for our county. alright, let’s check our county’s department of transportation website. nothing. the state highway patrol website? nothing.

I ended up googling everything I could until I called my mom and she suggested facebook. so I got on facebook and finally found out about the crash and the interstate closure from a local gossip page. we ended up stuck in a literal standstill, I mean going nowhere, for 3 and a half hours & I only got updates from Facebook comments from other people stuck in traffic nearer to the crash.

imagine if we had some sort of traffic alert system to inform drivers of road closures thereby preventing more drivers from taking those roads and exacerbating already dangerously congested traffic conditions. or a train.

unfortunately we simply lack the technology 😔

Tonight House Republicans voted 217 to 215 for a budget that'll take $1 TRILLION dollars from Medicaid, attack food benefits for kids, hurt seniors and vets.

but I don't want to talk about that, I want to talk about these two Democratic members of Congress you've never ever heard of.

Democrats, Congressman Kevin Mullin of California and Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen of Colorado.

Congressman Mullin had knee surgery that didn't go well, two surgeries, a life threatening blood clot and a week long stay in the hospital, and the moment he was discharged from the hospital he got on a five hour flight to DC to vote against the Republicans evil budget, using a walker to get to the floor of the House

Congresswoman Pettersen gave birth to her son Sam, in the picture, exactly one month ago on January 25th. They flew from Colorado to DC after Republicans refused to allow her to vote by proxy after having a baby. Congresswoman Pettersen took Sam onto the floor of the House to vote to protect the Health care of 400,000 Colorado kids.

why talk about this? because so much of the conversion is about telling people there's no one good, no one worthy, no one fighting. I promise you there are people undergoing personal hardship to do the right thing.
