Follicular unit transplant (FUT)
(FUT) is a hair restoration technique, also known as the strip, procedure, where a patient’s hair transplanted in naturally occurring groups of 1 to 4 hairs called follicular hair transplant
(FUT) is a single session and can be particularly beneficial for patients needing extensive hair restoration.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)
FUE harvesting is a surgical technique of grafts and may cause pit scarring , small, round and typically white scars in the patient’s donor area where the grafts have been removed
Additionally the risk of long term nerve damage, leading to chronic numbness or pain in the donor area is significantly reduced with FUE VS the strip (FUT) procedure
Procedure
The FUE procedure varies from surgeon to surgeon in term of set up, execution, sequence, instrumentation, staffing anaesthesia Another technique used in the treatment of baldness is called tissue expansion . Plastic surgeons are the leaders in tissue expansion, a procedure commonly used in reconstructive surgery to repair burn wounds and injuries with significant skin The scalp is shampooed and then treated with an antibacterial agent prior to the donor scalp being harvested. For several days prior to surgery the patient refrains from using any medicines which might result in intraoperative bleeding and resultant poor grafting. Alcohol and smoking can contribute to poor graft survival. Post operative antibiotics are commonly prescribed to prevent wound or graft infections.
