This past weekend (August 1st and 2nd) I had the honor to work with a highly skilled team of specialized people on one of the first structures with walls built from hempcrete. Like most conventional structures, the frame was built from wood on a flat bed trailer as a tiny-houses normally would be but what makes this house unique is what lies in the walls. Instead of using the standard industrial fiberglass insulation, we used the inner core or “hurd” beneath the bark of hemp varieties cultivated for industrial fiber and CBD extraction. The purpose of the experiment is to determine and establish the feasibility of using hemp as an alternative building material that utilizes the byproduct of an industry that is on the rise. We used different mixtures of lime that acts as a binding agents to further solidify the fibers of hemp. Meters were then installed to take readings on the humidity, the R-value or the thermal retention/ passage of the walls along with other measurements. We worked side-by-side by the MTSU building sciences department, specialized students from their programs, hemp enthusiasts and alternative building explorers alike. I was humbled to be surrounded by so many brilliant passionate people who were incredibly knowledgeable about the subject and very enthusiastic to educate others. Another notable part of this day was the filming of the first episode of the Deep Culture media channel via Full Circle and Deep Tropics featuring the hempcrete tiny house which is now in production and expect to see it sometime the end of the year. It is a privilege to have this platform and to be able to speak with people who share the same inspiration and drive to make a positive impact on our environment and planet through our creative endeavors. There are a lot of incredible things in the works of which I cannot share so much about right now for they are in the incubation of love and creativity awaiting the right time to be revealed to each of you. I'm eternally grateful for the Deep Tropics Crew, Katie Poss, for the other incredible people of this team: Dylan, Will, Michael, Jake, Tonya, Frederich, Dr. Heather Brown, Phillip from The Ridge, and May Wild. Globeweaver in Galapagos 07.001 NEVER GIVE UP. No matter what. I hiked 12.8 miles to the top of the highest point on the Santa Cruz Island in Galapagos. There were so many times that I wanted to turn around and go back but it felt so good to get to the top. Leave a comment with story about a time you wanted to give up but kept going! #persevere #keepgoing #globeweaver #galapagosislands #deeptropics #santacruz #inspirational (at Galapagos Islands) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxYiPvFAUCo/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16d263kdkzjl6

Globeweaver in Galapagos 02.001 I found a mermaid. This place is pure magic. The infectious vibe can be found in every breath. Kids playing on every corner, super friendly locals, extremely eco-concious infrastructure. One of the first labs we have done was to analyze the correlation between invasive species and the surge of on land tourists. Of course we can observe correlation but can't define causality. I invasives travel by many modes; contamination, cargo etc. They actually do biological screening at the entry port of Galapagos for any type of spores that may do harm to the ecosystem. Protect nature / protect the planet. #mermaids #galapagosislands #globeweaver #earth #vibes #travel (at Bellavista, Galapagos, Ecuador) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxNf30hBafa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5yrqm08wexch

Globeweaver in Galapagos 00.004 I finally made it to Ecuador after lavender soap exploding all over my bag, lightning storm delays, a student's lost bag, and a bunch of airport floor naps later. Soon we will be leaving the Quito Airport for Isla Baltra! #globeweaver #magethablackheart #studyabroad #galapagosislands #ecuador #nosleeptilldarwin #coffeedriven #planetearth #nashville #international #vibes (at En Terminal Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal De Quito-Ecuador) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxHwxGYBIOz/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1i88w3nba43yr
