(a little continuation of my last post. my brain is just full with how he sweet and awkward he’d be like..)

aki is by no means a verbal person, but there’s just something about you that completely leaves him even more stumped. whether it’s a simple greeting or some question he can’t even bother making out.. he won’t speak right away, a mumbled “huh?” leaving his lips before he actually answers you.

he’s your senior for more than a couple years, and you were assigned to him when you were starting out. you’re a decent newbie, always quick to react and follow through with orders, which was a fresh breather for him. most rookies are tedious to deal with compared to you, and you quickly end up as his favorite.

you do genuinely enjoy his company. he’s such a cool, kind person, and you don’t try to hide the way you feel towards him. he notices it too, and he feels oddly at ease whenever you’re around

he doesn’t mind you tagging along when the two of you have free time, really he looks forward in having simple one-on-ones with you, with you doing the most talking in most of them. aki listens to whatever topic you can think of, subtly nodding and humming as he lazily puffs from his cigarette. he follows up with his own thoughts which surprise you, not really expecting him to actually listen to your ramblings.

that mentioned.. aki doesn’t normally mind smoking around coworkers. but with how frequently he finds you by his side during his smoke breaks, he feels a small twinge of guilt, instinctively scooching away, and if not, he’s careful not to exhale the smoke in your direction.

when you’re comfortable enough to speak to him in a more casual manner.. you sometimes scold him about his smoking habits, telling him it’d rot his bones. he stifles a laugh at that, retorting back with a ‘too late.’

you eventually get assigned to work in a separate division, which really shouldn’t be bothering him all that much.. but it does. to be fair, he was fully expecting you to be in his squad, but was told you were much needed in another team.

he wasn’t exactly thrilled about that, and despite knowing you’re more than capable taking care of yourself, aki just can’t help worrying. what if something happened and he wasn’t there to look after you? you weren’t nearly as experienced as your other members, and so aki goes out his way to approach the one in charge of your squad personally, asking them to look after you.

it comes to his attention that you were quite the favored member in your team. he doesn’t mind the sudden attention you were getting, and it’s not until he notices the looks some of your teammates were giving you that he has to remind himself that he was not the jealous-type at all.

during the rare occasions you two are paired up for patrolling, aki takes that as a chance to be able to really take you in. half his attention is spent on you, watching how you stride smoothly beside him, the sound of your voice, and the subtle smell of your perfume when you find yourself pushing up against him in a light crowd.

he can’t help being so obvious that his coworkers are quick in placing all the pieces together, that aki hayakawa, out of everyone, was interested in the rookie he was supposed to look after. he gets all defensive once they start, which doesn’t help his case in the slightest.

with how aki acts towards you.. you practically have this tall, broody man wrapped around your finger, the slight mention of your name causing his entire face to flush a tinge of red. he’s so awkwardly fretful to the point he struggles to compose himself when the two of you are alone.

after a long while of grueling pining.. he does eventually decide to tell you how he feels about you, finding that the only option he has to properly ‘end’ things. he’s ready for any answer you throw at him, and a small part of him is already expecting you to shut him down.

and oh... him confessing is so sweet.. he's so shy and it's so funny seeing strict, professional aki get all flustered, his normally smooth voice getting shaky and quiet when he tells you how he feels and that's it's okay if you don't feel the same, how it's completely fine if you see him as a coworker and nothing more -- and it ends with him stuttering over his words when he realizes you aren't rejecting him.

thinking abt aki crushing on you..

aki is extremely uptight, especially with work, prioritizing getting the job above everything else. so when he starts getting these fleeting moments of.. nervousness around you, his co-worker, things slowly get messy.

at first he’s quick to dismiss those feelings, wanting to be as professional as possible. he’s your senior in the way that he’s been looking after you, and there’s no way he’s going to start something romantic in this line of work. but he finds it hard, impossible to focus when you’re around him, with the way you beam up at him during patrols, always insisting that you come along with his smoke breaks, it’s honestly embarrassing how you can reduce him to a flustered mess.

he’s not exactly a subtle person, either. he’s painfully obvious in the way he looks at you, not even aware of how much he’s staring until you call him out for it. he’s careful when smoking around you, sometimes asking you to move away a little further before lighting up a cigarette. it was escalating to the point you’ve come to tease him about having some kind of a soft spot for you. (that he quickly denies.)

eventually, he does give in, finally accepting his developing affection towards you. aki is a direct person through and through, wanting to confess just to get this over with, already confident and wholeheartedly accepting the fact you’d simply reject him.

.. but then you don’t.

you don’t reject him, in fact, you were ecstatic the moment those words came out of his mouth, a light shade of red immediately forming across your cheeks as you give him one of those smiles that he likes so much, already stammering about how you feel the same way, how long you’ve been waiting for him to say something.

honestly.. he really was expecting that you’d turn him down. never would he have thought that someone would actually be happy, this overjoyed in a simple confession from him, much less reciprocate his feelings. he feels like some high-schooler with the way his heart is fluttering, and he can’t help but relish in your sweet reaction for a little longer.
