***SPOILERS AHEAD for Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age Inquisition, Divinity Original Sin 2, and Baulder's Gate 3 Act 2***

I find it so interesting how people were so worried about Gale being like Anders and Solas i.e., willing to betray their beloved for a cause, but then Gale does the exact opposite of that. When given the choice, Gale consistently chooses his beloved Tav over, Mystra or power or grand schemes. He also is upfront about his bomb situation and always includes Tav in his plans instead of keeping his plans hidden until it is too late to stop them. He is as he puts it, "an open book, which needs only [Tav's] gentle hand to turn the pages."

In truth, Gale's real parallel is Fane from Divinity Original Sin 2. Gale is much more kind-hearted to start than Fane. However, they both love knowledge and have incredible power taken away from them due to their own curiosity/hubris. They both, when romanced, learn to choose connection over trying to restore their past glories, and they are able to let go of/mourn past loves.
