A partnership was not something he was admittedly keen on. He found working with others to be nothing more than an inconvenience, at best. Whether that be the due effect of his irascible personality, or that he merely had the worst luck with those that worked alongside side, he didn’t know — but he wasn’t looking forward to MEETING this potential partner today. As much as he knew a bridge had to be built.

Upon his entry, Thran had made the polite attempt at standing to greet him. A thin smile spread across thin lips as he outstretched a hand, awaiting his.

“ I’m aware of who you are, and you must know me as well– Thranduil Oropherson, Greenwood Designs. If you’ll take a seat, we’ll get right to things. Go ahead and let’s see the proposal, I’d prefer to not waste any time .”

    thorin clasped thranduil’s hand in a firm handshake, relieved that he had made it this far in the discussions.  not one to waste time, thorin plopped his briefcase on the table and began to pull proposal ideas and various stats to prove his company’s success from its depths.  hopefully, the papers would be a fail-safe and nothing more; thorin had learned to be a great talker.

     ❛     erebor jewelsmiths is predominantly focused on production of jewelry for sale in our shops; but i see no reason why a merger between our companies could not end in profitable designs for the both of us.  you have your line, and i have mine.  collabs are raging in today’s age, and we have designs that could work well.     ❜

    thorin raised a brow.    ❛     if you need to take a look, i have plenty to show you.  what do you say?  are you open to the idea?     ❜

    that was enough to gain thorin’s interest.  he quirked a thick brow at his potential investor, fingers steepled before him like a movie villain in his plotting.   his intentions were more profit oriented than blowing up parliament or stealing an object of historical significance.     

    ❛     how honest?  i’d gladly have any order manufactured for you at twice-speed, assuming whatever you use it for will not taint my name.  i’m listening.     ❜

    he accepted the ale with a gracious dip of his head, noting to check for puncture holes before drinking --- thorin’s found that trust came easier with the likes of bilbo, ori, and balin at his side, but one could never be too careful.     ❛     come -- it would be a shame to deny an honourable visitor the right to see erebor in all its glory.     ❜

Future, present and past. Everybody is fighting with their own demons. Sketch of Durin line. Not finished YET! I’m still fighting with the background because I don’t know with color will suit with one…. I have a problem because I wanted yellow and brown for Fili and Kili but Liddie pointed out that it will clash with their hair. And there is a proposition from her to use blue for Fili, green for Kili and red for Thorin. And that’s why I struggle I know in my head that this seat color is great yet there is something missing :(

    ‘twas an honour to spar with the king under the mountain --- even for the young children of erebor.  it had become a yearly tradition, to invite guests for a lavish banquet and watch the children break through into the lives of warriors; and thorin himself would fight them with a smile on his face.

    cheers of the crowds echoed behind him as thorin bid the children farewell, proud of the work they’d accomplished.  he’d only left the stage a mere few minutes before he came face to face with a familiar redhead, and his smile turned into a scowl.

so for my modern verse ( which is almost identical to my mythos / pjo verse, minus the son of enyo thing ), i have a couple of headcanons about thorin’s company, and where each of the dwarves fall into it.  (since there are like ZERO other dwarf rpers, i’m going to take my liberties.)

dwalin is one of the executives for the production part of the company.  he oversees the workshops and hires men to be smiths, etc.

balin is thorin’s advisor / second in command / ???whats the name for the secondary ceo dude??? idk.  but he manages a lot of paperwork for thorin, and keeps the shops in line.

gloin is obviously the treasurer.  he keeps track of paychecks, income, and spending for the company.

bifur, bofur, bombur, and MAYBE nori work as smiths.  not much more to say there.

dori and oin work in the actual shops, selling the jewelry.

ori is the receptionist / PA to thorin, and keeps track of his meetings / potential clients for him.

not sure how fili and kili fit in, yet.  maybe one of them is an apprentice in the workshop, and the other is a intern looking to gain some business experience.

     ❛     have you always looked so smug?     ❜   thorin looked ready to lose his mind, teeth grit against an onslaught of annoyance and reluctance to admit the words aloud -- especially because he knew legolas had already predicted them.  not that it was hard.      ❛     cut me loose, would you?   cut me loose, damn it!     ❜

               yes, thorin is strung up in the tree like bait.  he’s started to lose feeling in his arms.

   thorin knew better than to let his irritation get the best of him where potential investments were involved.  ( getting through thranduil’s PA had been a nightmare, and he had almost called on balin to handle the exchange for him. )  but the meeting had been arranged, and thorin had donned his best calvin klein dress shirt for the occasion.  he needed this deal, and was willing to put on a brave face for it.
