Hiii any updayes on around the realms in 80 days ?:3 or how many more chapters to expect hehe
Hi!!!!!
Ugh I’m so sorry I’ve been terrible recently! Basically things at work have been crazy, we moved under a different part of the service only to then get shut down and have to contact everyone on our wait list to say we could no longer offer a service and then because of that I had to start a new job ect so it’s just been super manic! But hopefully when things settle I will return to it!!
Not sure myself about chapters! It’s a good question but I haven’t got everything finalised in my head so honestly it will be a surprise for me too 😂
Hope you are all okay!🥰

The Loki bug
Pairing: Reader x Loki
One shot summary: You've caught the flu and get board of your own bedroom so look for somewhere else to recover. You are joined by Loki who finds himself helping to keep you better. You end up catching more than an illness.
Mentions of vomiting
Notes: This is kind of stupid, just pure fluff. it's definitely not the best thing I've ever written but I fancied writing something soft so I did. Hope you enjoy.
You felt awful.
It was definitely the flu, and you had definitely picked it up from Chelsea’s birthday party. You shouldn’t have gone out in December wearing a short dress and no coat but you did anyway in the name of not having to lug a coat with you everywhere. Now you were paying the price.
Luckily, the vomiting seemed to have stopped, but you still felt ill and tired. You had been cooped up in your room for days now and you were sick to death of the same scene. Wanting a bit of a change, you decided to go chill out in one of the lounging areas in Stark tower. Amazing perks of working for Stark, include but are not limited to, your own apartment (which you were currently sick to death of no offence Stark) and full access to most areas in the tower; aside from some of the work-out areas that were limited to the Avengers only. Another great perk of Stark Towers living, was getting to see super-hero’s hanging about; Captain America once made you a cup of tea, and it was still your favourite thing to bring up at parties.
You made your way, blanket, tissues, hot water bottle and sick bucket (just in case) to the 14th floor, which had one of your favourite sitting rooms in, and one which you knew would be fairly quiet.
It had a couple of large comfy sofa’s and chairs and a way too big television set for the size of the room. You settled yourself down, switched the tv onto some fairly shit daytime shows and prepared to sleep the day away.
When you woke, you had the distinct feeling that you were no longer alone. You opened your eyes slowly and groggily, and spotted Loki sitting on the armchair opposite. You had completely forgotten that the Asgardian Gods had been staying on the 14th floor during their time in the towers, and you were now apparently gatecrashing their living room. They hadn’t been here long, although you had bumped into Thor a couple of times and embarrassed yourself by forgetting how to speak, you had not really seen Loki around. He kept himself to himself as far as you were aware, and didn’t leave his room too often.
Now however, he was sat in front of you with his legs kicked up on the table in front of him and was currently reading a book you didn’t recognise. He was wearing earth clothes which took you by surprise; Thor wore earth clothes all the time, although you once overheard the black widow explaining that she couldn’t let him go out in a Hawaiian shirt, cargo pants and a leather jacket. Loki however donned black sweatpants and a green t-shirt, and still managed to look majestic. His black hair was loose, and looked curlier than you had seen it. On the other hand, you were in Lilo and Stitch pyjamas you’d had for years and were sure you looked fairly disgusting.
You had heard all of the stories about Loki and New York, despite not living there when it all kicked off, and you had also heard the rumours about mind control and that perhaps it hadn’t been through his own volition. You had to admit, he didn’t look as sickly pale as you had seen on the tv so perhaps they were true.
Under normal circumstances, you probably would have said something or apologised for being in his living room, but your head continued to pound painfully, so you sat up long enough to grab some paracetamol and water before laying back down and going back to sleep.
***
The Midgardian girl was sick. He could tell that much; she was wrapped up in blankets and had a bucket next to him. He hoped she wasn’t going to vomit as he hated the sight. Perhaps her sickness accounted for why, when she woke up and spotted him, she hadn’t run in fear like most do, but ignored him and gone back to sleep. He was mildly annoyed at first to see someone in his living space, although, he thought, it was technically Stark’s and he couldn’t really claim ownership of a shared space. Plus she was quiet and didn’t seem to care about him being in her presence, which made her the best company he’d had since he arrived on this infernal planet.
As the hours went by, he found himself actually kind of enjoying their quiet companionship. So when she appeared the next day in the same spot, he was almost glad to have some company while he read, even if the company was sick and mainly slept.
By now, he started to become interested in her ailment. He was unsure what she was sick with, and lightly worried if she was dying. It would just be his luck for the first human he actually enjoyed the company of to die soon after. He used his stupid portable device Stark had ensued him with to find out what was wrong with her. At first he had found these devices pointless, and they seemed to merely be a way for Thor to annoy him even when they were not in each others presences. Even now he received yet another message from him which contained some silly little pictures including a dancing woman and a moon with a face on it. Norns above.
He had however, discovered that The Google could be a useful tool, and seemed to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of midgardian pop-culture. Loki spent most of his time using it to google what Stark’s stupid monikers meant.
He typed in some of her symptoms including sickness and headaches. He managed to narrow it down to influenza, which to his relief, was unlikely to kill someone who was as young as she seemed. Now fairly happy that she was not dying, he went back to his reading.
They continued in a fairly silent companionship, and he found his spirits lifting when he heard her chuckle under her blanket at a joke he had made at Thor’s expense after he had bumbled in earlier.
On the third day, she appeared slightly brighter and managed to stay awake for longer. Loki noticed that this mortal girl actually had very pretty eyes when she kept them open long enough for him to admire them. They talked a little about the book he was reading and other literature, and he discovered she was a fan of midgardian classics, some of which he had read and could even admit where good; for midgardian literature of course. She had apologised for the tv series ‘friends’ that seemed to be on in the background most of the time they had been together. Loki hadn’t really minded, and was even secretly starting to watch it instead of reading; he was beginning to wonder if Ross and Rachel were ever going to get back together. He didn’t tell her this of course. When Thor came in to generally bother him and be a nuisance, she had laughed again at his silly quips, and he wondered what else he could say to get her to laugh again. When she had fallen asleep in the afternoon, he sent a jet of magic to warm her hot water bottle as she slept, and kept her tea warm in case she woke.
By the fourth day, he actively looked forward to something for the first time since being here, getting to make his way to the living space and talk to the ill mortal. When he got there, he noticed she had taken a turn for the worse. Her skin had a sickly gleam on it and she was shivering under her blanket. She was restless too, normally she lay still, but today she was turning about with her face scrunched up, as if she was uncomfortable.
Loki panicked, and referred back to The Google. It suggested she could have a fever, a raise in temperature above the norm. Concerned for his sick mortal, he decided he would try and check and walked over to her, lightly placing her hand on her head to check. She definitely felt warm, warmer in fact than mortals normally felt to him (which was pretty warm thanks to his frost giant blood).
His device suggested trying to reduce her temperature a bit, as well as ensuring she had plenty of fluids. Loki swapped her blanket for a much thinner one and refilled her water bottle. He continued to keep his hand on her forehead, hoping that might cool her down.
***
Waking up with Loki peering down at and his hand on your head was not on your “living at Stark Towers” bingo card. Once he noticed you were awake he leapt back quickly as if he had been burnt.
“You were shivering.” He stated stiffly.
“Oh, I have the flu, sorry.” You weren’t sure if he was annoyed at you or not.
So far Loki hadn’t spoken much to you, although he had been putting up with your presence over the past few days, maybe you had taken things too far by having a fever. You hoped not, you had been enjoying having him around while you were sick, it was nice to not have to wake up alone. Sometimes he would read a little out-loud to himself, or if you were really lucky humming and once, just once, you caught him singing. You liked listening to his voice you had decided, it was much nicer than listening to the constant re-runs of Friends that were usually on. It was nice of him to let you leave the T.V on too, despite the fact you slept through most of it. All in all, it had been better company than you initially thought.
“You haven’t been drinking much today, The Google says mortals should keep their fluids up when they have influenza.”
“Er- yeah you’re probably right.” You sat up and grabbed your water bottle.
Weird, you thought you had forgotten to fill it up this morning.
Loki took another step back.
“Hey, did you swap out my blanket?” You asked him, noticing a much thinner one.
Loki cleared his throat and looked sheepish,
“I did. Apologies. I can change it back of course, I just thought this one would be better to help your rising temperature, but I can change it back, I’ll just change it back for you -”
“That’s alright, this ones better anyway I think I was getting too warm.”
He gave a small smile and nodded. He looked at you shyly before asking,
“I have a spell that might be able to help you sleep more restfully?” He posed as a question.
“Sure that would be great thank you.”
Loki came closer again and rested his hands upon your forehead. His hands were very cold, and they felt nice on your feverish skin; you sighed happily.
The effects were instantaneous, and you started to feel sleepy.
“Thanks for helping me. You have really cold hands by the way, they’re really pretty too. I’m not sure how hands can be pretty, but yours are. I suppose they match the rest of you like that”
You said drowsily, your eyes starting to shut.
“You should rest.”
“Mm. Can you read to me please? I find it calming.”
Days later, you would wake up in the middle of the night, having flash-backs of telling Loki he had pretty hands and asking him to read for you and it would make you cringe so badly you nearly died of embarrassment. But for now you were too tired to care.
“Of course.”
You were lulled to sleep almost immediately.
The next day, you finally felt more like yourself again, so you showered and wore some clothes that weren’t pyjamas for the first time. You wanted to head back to Loki’s living room, and show him that you were capable of not looking like a sweaty mess. God damn Asgardian Princes who always seemed to look good. You were still feeling fatigued and snotty, but you were at least able to talk to him without falling in and out of sleep. You felt slightly nervous today, because you were a bit more ‘ with it’ than you had been these past few days, you were also more aware of what you looked and acted like.
Your nerves were quickly diminished, and you found talking to the God just as easy as when you were sick.
***
“How have you found living in the towers? I don’t see you around with the others?” She asked him.
He wasn’t sure how to tell her that since living here he had received a hel of a lot of animosity and very few people had talked to him like she had.
He was surprised she had come today. Now she was feeling better, he assumed she would have stopped visiting but he was thankful she had.
“Not many people particularly want me to be around, darling.”
“Because of the New York thing? Didn’t everyone know that that wasn’t your fault?”
She looked at him with those very pretty eyes, which were staring at him inquisitively.
He smiled sadly,
“Not everyone beliefs that, many people have their doubts.” He said softly.
She frowned. He had decided that he hated seeing her frown, it made his stomach twist and he wanted to reach over and smooth it over. He much, much preferred to see her smiling or laughing.
“I have to go back to work tomorrow.” She looked sad about this too. “So I won’t be able to come here.”
“Oh.” He supposed this was always going to happen at some point. He wished she could keep visiting like this but to do so would be to wish sickness upon her which he would not want.
“Yeah.” She looked glum.
Loki was a little surprised she had enjoyed his company over the past few days, and his hopes raised at the realisation that she was as upset as him at their time coming to an end.
He cleared his throat, praying to the Norns that he was on the right track,
“Perhaps we could still continue to meet, even if you cannot visit here everyday.”
She looked up at him, starting to smile again,
“Really? Do you…do you want to continue seeing me? Well not seeing me seeing me obviously because were not seeing each other but like…continue meeting up maybe? There’s this coffee shop not to far from here if you would like to go after I finish work tomorrow?”
“I’d love to darling.”

@lokisgoodgirl gah thank you so so so so much for the shoutout!!!!😭😭😭 glad you liked it!!!! Sometimes a bit of fluff is needed 😉🥹🥹
Thank you!!!!🥰😘😘😘😘
The Loki bug

Reading List March & April 2024 📖
Welcome back, sweethearts! 💖
It's been a while now, hasn't it? I hope you are all doing well my loves!
Since I've been really stressed out because work is kicking my ass, a break was just necessary. And with not getting as much reading done as I wanted to in a month, it also made sense to wait some more.
I might do that again honestly, if work keeps being so exhausting 😬 Alternatively I might just skip the fic descriptions once and only list the names, that would be a lot less time consuming .. what would you prefer in that case? Skipping description or summing up two month at once? 👀
Buuut I'm never gone completely and I got some treasures for you again today! Hopefully I didn't forget anything while trying to gather two months together, it got kind of confusing 😅
Now enough of that, dig in and devour the awesome stories we got this time ♥️
I adore you.

Freedom & Chaos | @darkserenity24 | ongoing
Welcome to the second part of the Freedom & Forgiveness series! The last installment finished incredibly intense dramatic and we ended up on the medical floor. Trying to understand what happened while we were out, it becomes clear that the Avengers know what happened with Jacob and what actions Loki took to save us. While they don't exactly approve how he dealt with the situation, they can't deny that something had to be done. Opinions are split and we have to figure out how to handle the situation and how our relationship with Loki has evolved.

After being convinced that she doesn't know what he means or what is even going on, they make their way back to her home and Dee struggles with the aftermath of the events.
Beyond the Void | @whirlybirbs | ongoing
If you have been a fan of From the void, with love like I was, I'm so excited to tell you that Doc and Loki are BACK! 👏 The first chapter starts out with us straight up not having a good time, torn from time yet again, six months have passed and we're trying to grapple with our newfound ability to premeditate and just looking slightly crazy to Jane and Darcy. Meanwhile Loki is also struggeling to deal with slipping back into his old self without us, not made easier by running into one of our variants 🥺
Dirty Work | @darkficsyouneveraskedfor | ongoing
Who would have thought that all the terrible events of Walpurgisnacht, Lokis manic behaviour after and a desparate try to just get some time in the garden would lead to a very not romantic proposal? Or maybe we should call it a declaration, rather than a proposal. 👀
In Stitches | @darkficsyouneveraskedfor | ongoing
Starting out great with the first chapter of this Delulu Loki fic where we take the role of a bubbly reader! When visiting our client Frigga to fix one of her dresses, we also get to know the son we never met before - a bit more than enough when he almost accidentally runs us over with his car. Following that incident, we can't shake the feeling of being followed.. 👀
Until Dust | @snowflakesnsundry | ongoing
People I have been binging the over 100 chapters of this story and I'm incredibly in love with it. It was so much worth the time. After the battle of New York, Thor tries to create diplomatic relations with Midgard of which Loki would be in charge. With our parents lending their expertise, we follow them to Asgard. Quickly catching Loki's eye, what starts out as just an annoyance from the younger prince, we start to develope an unforeseen relationship with him and set a break in the timeline in motion. There is so much more but it's impossible to sum it up in a short paragraph. Big recommendation, lovelies. 🫶
Linden Leaves | @buttercupcookies-blog | ongoing
Be ready and get your toothbrush out for the sweetest and toothrotting fluff these weeks! After starting to officially court each other, Loki and Anariel deepen their relationship everyday and our god learns to really open up to someone else. While exploring all the emotions he previously never experienced, he even grows a bit closer to Thor when he tries to ask for his advice. ♥️
Find me when it's over | @cosmic0artist | ongoing
The story made some giant steps and with Sigyn still not giving up to fight for Loki, even if it means walking into battle against her own brother, we finally reached the end of Tentative Steps! ✨ AND EVERYONE CLAPPED when Loki decided No more running and their relationship took the step we've all been waiting for - most of all Sigyn of course.🤭 But even with that step, in the interlude Hypnagogia she realizes that not everything is easy going forward.
A Scandal in Bohara | @mareebird | ongoing
If you thought the situation on Bohara was already weird, things are turning incredibly intense now - Stephen has finally returned, but now Loki follows the priest alone against his better judgement. Surprisingly his point of view differs a lot from what Loki originally thought. Giving Stephen some not-so-alone time, Loki contemplates the events of the evening until he is suddenly interrupted by a new tragedy. 😱
Breath of the Æsir | @chantsdemarins | ongoing
While we already have our hands full trying to nurture Loki back to health to the best of our abilities, a battle suddenly seems unavoidable when the Northmen arrive at our shore. Determined to keep the manor and the tenants safe, we decide to confront the enemy and it becomes clear to everybody that we're far more than a human woman. 💥
The little things give you away | @loki-cees-all | ongoing
Still being locked up together, Loki and Oliviette spend their time in tense silence, only really acknowledging each other when Oliviette keeps on sharing the stale meals she gets. The situation wears away at her while Loki is still a prisoner of his own thoughts, until she desparately asks for his help when she doesn't have any other choice. 🥺
Dreams of Forever | @the-lady-amphitrite | ongoing
In this new story, after all the struggles and trials we had to face that brought us to this moment, love has grown between us and the god of mischief. Tonight will be the night, we'll ask Loki to be ours, forever. But first we get to find out how we reached this point after years in the making, including life after the Blip and the struggles that came with it.
The Villain's Weapon | @simplyholl | ongoing
Slowly we're regaining parts of our memory and whose side we were actually on before the injury - still, we decide to stay put and figure out the confusing relationship with Loki. The situation is getting intense when Thanos eventually orders him to completely get rid of us - which Loki even after multiple tries can't seem to bring himself to do. 👀
Conquer | @cleo-fox | ongoing
This series takes place in a soulmate AU where Loki actually won. Now the king intends to take a bride - we just never thought it would be us. Still harboring a lot of resentment we still have no other choice than accepting our fate and whatever may come with it (including ourselves 😁)
These Wicked Games | @mochie85 | ongoing
After all the tension and misunderstandings between Loki and us, we finally confront each other, what went wrong and put all cards on the table 🔥
Around the Realms in 80 Days | @mistress-ofmagic | ongoing
We're back! Still recovering from the events and injuries in the fire realm, we finally get to leave our hospital bed a bit more - much to the delight of Loki because of our new means of transportation. The team starts to really appreciate everything we've done so far - and Oliver really starts to appreciate spending time with us, which doesn't sit well with a certain someone

loki: I don’t know, what do we have here?
y/n: I don’t know I was hoping you knew

y/n: no, I was just… waiting for you to say it
loki: then why did you make your voice sound like that?
y/n: I don’t know, I saw it in a film once

Thank you for the tag @mischief2sarawr !!!
Last song: whatever was on radio 1 when I was driving home from work today 😂 possibly end of beginning by Joe Keery as they did play that I’m sure (just realise that djo is Joe Keery this minute when I googled to make sure I had the song name right, mind blown I hear that song like 5 times an hour on the radio)
Last thing I read: I finished Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reed which I finished on Friday.
Last Movie: I watched Argylle at the weekend!
Last show: just watched a few episodes of Derry Girls.
Last thing I googled: End of beginnings by Joe Kerry 😂
Last thing I ate: a biscuit!
Sweet, salty or savoury: sweet or savoury! Not a fan of salty things haha!
Sleep: on the weekends I have the sleeping pattern of a teenager still I don’t get up till the afternoon, during the week I don’t really sleep
Currently reading: nothing atm! Between books as I like to give it at least a week in between books so I don’t get book hangovers! Going to start Book Lovers by Emily Henry this weekend but in the meantime I will be playing breath of the wild which I do when I’m not reading 😂
Thanks for tagging me! ♥️ @vostok3-ka Sorry I didn’t answer sooner, I completely forgot about this 🤦🏼♀️
Last song: Too sweet by Hozier, TikTok put me on and I love it
Last thing I read: sorry to disappoint, anyone who’s been following me for a long time prolly has heard me say a million times I don’t read books. So the last thing I read was a research article on body image/body dysmorphia and eating disorders in male bodybuilders. If we really wanna count a book tho, ig the DSM-V bc I gotta fact check myself sometimes and really, what other book is more iconic than her 💅
Last movie: Immaculate, the horror movie with Sydney Sweeney. Watched it in theaters on my birthday. Definitely surprised me bc it wasn’t about what you think it is and her acting was awesome (as always). Good movie except the ending was unsatisfying, I was kinda just like “that’s it, that’s all?” Also a little pointless bc I was like mmmm….was that actually necessary? But 🤷♀️
Last show: just finished watching it’s always sunny in Philadelphia….and I love it bc it’s so funny but also these are truly some of the most psychotic, awful characters in television….especially Dennis, he’s kinda scary sometimes 😭
The last thing I googled: a car dealership in my hometown, was looking to help a friend
Last thing I ate: a protein shake but technically that’s not eating so if it would be honey garlic chicken and broccoli
Sweet, salty, or savory: prolly sweet. Usually I have a sweet tooth. Depends on my mood tho
Sleep: too much. If I could sleep all day I would. I love it in theory and hate it in practice. Literally skipped class this morning so I could sleep in till 10:30. Prolly need to go back to a therapist bc I’m having trouble with over-sleeping again lmao 😭Adhd perk of being constantly tired, right?
Currently reading: bout to start an article called “structural brain changes in PTSD: does trauma alter neuroanatomy?” That’s if I ever stop procrastinating tho….
No pressure tags: @oswildin @painted-doe or just anyone who sees this and wants to do their own, feel free to join in

Eeee!! Thank you!!
Around the Realms in 80 days - chapter 22
Pairing: Reader x Loki
Story summary: You have fallen through a portal during the convergence into Asgard and come face to face with Thor, and his brother Loki. With no way to return, you must travel with the two men and their hoard of asgardian soldiers to get back home. Things get from bad to worse when you have to share a tent with the god of mischief himself.
Notes:
Okay I don't know if any of you guys are still out there and still wanting an update for this story but I'm providing one anyway! I really do hope that you're still with me (and if you can't remember what happened that feels like a good time for a re-read right??)
Read this story on a03!
find all parts to this story on Tumblr here:
You’d had better days, you mused.
Better weeks, months, years…
“If you continue pulling that face it will get stuck and you’ll get wrinkles” Loki chimed behind you.
You glared up at him, scowling even harder out of spite.
He grinned down at you.
After Loki’s admission two days ago, his mood had been…interesting. He had stayed beside you in the hospital when he could, but he kept swapping between being distant and being close.
No real change there then, you thought.
You hadn’t brought the whole being a frost Giant thing up again, despite your thousands of questions in case you pushed him too far and he got annoyed with you and decided to stop visiting.
Now however, he seemed to be in a good mood although you felt that had more to do with the fact he was currently pushing you around in a wheelchair.
His eyes had lit up when the nurses had suggested it, despite the fact you felt well enough to walk really and for most of your journey you would just be in the lift anyway. You had protested multiple times but now Loki had got the idea in his head there was really no persuading him otherwise.
“Isn’t this nice?” He asked, too jovial for your liking.
You put your tongue out and rolled your eyes when you thought he wasn’t looking.
“I saw that you little chit.”
He rocked the wheelchair like he was going to tip you out.
“LOKI!” You yelled, gripping to the sides of your chair.
The lift attendant had looked pale when you’d first stepped in, and now he looked rather green.
Loki roared with laughter.
“Oh come on darling, you really think I would throw a vulnerable maiden out of her chair?”
Before having to face that your answer to that question might actually be no and that you knew Loki would never do anything to hurt you, or the fact that this was the third time he had called you darling, the doors of the lift opened onto the floor where you were meeting with Stark and the Avengers.
Apparently Tony had wanted to wait until you were a bit better before doing a debrief on what had gone down on Muspelheim.
Loki wheeled you down small corridor and into the large meeting room. Like many of the rooms in Stark towers, the windows were completely glass and looking down onto the city below. It was as far as being outside as you had got in the past few days and you stared out, longingly.
Distracting you slightly from the view, was the Avengers sat around the table. Thor was there of course, as well as Captain America, Natasha and Dr Bruce Banner. A smaller cohort that had welcomed you in when you had first arrived.
Natasha seemed to assess you with cool eyes, but Bruce shot you a sympathetic look which you felt was a lot to do with the fact you were wearing a very cool and flattering nightie with Shrek’s face all over it as it was the only thing that could fit over your bandages.
Loki wheeled you into a space that had been left chair-less for you as he took the one next to you.
Tony gave you a tired smile.
“How you feeling kid?”
“Better thank you. And thank you for the care on your wards too!”
He brushed you off with a wave of his hand.
“I suppose I should thank you for saving Rock of Ages life too.” Tony shot Loki a disgruntled look. “He is helping us with this situation after all.” He said, as if he wasn’t particularly happy about it. “Its nice to see you taking your babysitting duties very seriously, although next time I’d appreciate it if you stay away from certain death, he’s not worth it.”
Loki gave a half shrug, “that’s one thing we agree on.”
You scowled again.
“Plus now you are officially hired as a member of my workforce, it reflects badly on me.”
You snorted, “If the babysitter club ever want a new member i’ll be the first in line. And don’t worry, I have no desire to face certain death ever again.”
Although I would save Loki again, a little voice in your head added that you pushed down into the depths of your subconscious.
“So, Wonderland’s still with us, but we still no nothing about the current alien threat to Earth.” Stark said gloomily.
“Well, we found out Surtur’s made some sort of deal with someone to er…cause something.” Thor supplied.
Stark pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Next to nothing then. Natasha?”
She shrugged. “Nothing at any of the reported sites, no sign of anything coming in or out.”
“We did learn that they are taking humans for something.” You piped up.
Everyone stared at you and you immediately regretted speaking at all.
“One of the fire demons told me.” You mumbled.
“Is there no help from your…lot?” Steve asked to Thor.
“Sadly, Ragnarok is a myth across the other realms too, not just on Midgard. There will be many that don’t take it seriously seriously. And, no one would be bothered enough about a few missing humans to get involved in an intergalactic war.” Loki shrugged.
Stark scoffed “A few?”
He pulled up a page a hologram of various news stories over the past few weeks, of humans going missing, seemingly vanishing without a trace.
It was worse than you thought, and it seemed the rates where going up by the day.
“The fire demon I spoke with, he told me I could go with him, somewhere where they could make me more powerful.” You spoke again.
Tony and Bruce swapped concerned faces.
“Did he say anything else?”
“No, not really, just promises of a greater future or something.”
“Well it might not be much but, good work.” Steve said, and flashed you an all American pearly smile and you blushed in spite of yourself.
“Yes, Latte has proved herself to be truly courageous on this trip.” Thor agreed.
“Oh well, I don’t know about all that.” You murmured feeling your face burn up. It was only an accident anyway that you had found anything out, it’s not like you’d stormed up to a fire demon and demand he speak to you.
Nevertheless, you were only a few beats away from kicking your feet and giggling but you refrained yourself.
Loki muttered something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like “suck up” and you glared at him, taking a long swig of water to cool yourself down.
“You reap what you sow kid, I’ll be recruiting you to do further missions with Loki if you’re not careful. Who knew the worlds rudest goth could make friends? And a lowly earthling at that.” Stark challenged.
You tensed. You weren’t really 100% sure if Loki actually did consider you a friend, or if he would take offence at the insinuation.
But Loki leaned back in his chair, “We are friends, friends with benefits.”
You choked on your water and it spilled down Shreks face as Thor gave you a pat on the back that nearly sent your lungs through your mouth.
While you recovered no one knew what to say, Steve and Bruce looked alarmed, you weren’t sure if that was at Lokis statement or the fact you had spat out half a glass of water and Starks mouth was hung wide open, his eyes open comically large, Natasha looked mildly amused.
“Its not…” You said between coughing. “That’s not true…Loki…Loki doesn’t know what that term means…he…he can’t….”
You turned to him.
“Where did you even hear that being said?” You spluttered.
He narrowed his eyes at you.
“You deny that we are friends in front of Stark and his goonies?”
“I’m not denying were friends Loki, I’m denying were friends with benefits. That doesn’t mean what you think it does it means something really specific on Earth. What…What benefits does our friendship bring?”
Loki shuffled in his seat “Well…you have taught me how to use a midgardian communication device and I have taught you…”
You cut him off “Great, expect thats not what friends with benefits means here it means…” You blushed heavily again.
“It means friends who…” you tried again.
Loki was watching you carefully with an eyebrow raised, the corner of his mouth starting to twitch and your uncomfortableness.
“Friends who fuck.” Natasha finished off helpfully.
You felt your face grow even redder if that were possible.
“Ah.” Loki said, in a measured tone although you thought you noticed a very light blush across his pale complexion. “I understand now that that might have been misleading.”
“Well thank God we cleared that up.” Stark sighed, “I thought we were going to have to admit you to the psych ward instead of the burns ward.”
You stared down to avoid eye contact with Loki, feeling a bit awkward.
“What’s the plan?” Steve asked.
“Asgardians?” Stark aimed at Thor.
“We won’t get anything more information from Surtur…”
“The people of this planet are disappearing! Into thin air! And some Alien thingies are the culprit! How can I be the protector of the human race if I don’t even have any leads!” Stark yelled.
Thor and Steve swapped looks.
“There might be more information we can gather across the other realms” Thor shrugged, “If the true enemy behind this is thought not to be human then they could potentially come from another Realm.”
“We would have no idea where to start though, it’s not like the nine realms are a small area to cover.” Loki argued.
“Doctor Foster does a lot of research into the nine realms, will she have any information for us?” Tony asked Thor hopefully.
“I…I can ask her to see what she has found.” Thor placated.
“In the meantime, we have our best scientists searching the skies for any sign of alien invasions.” Bruce added. “Tony I’m sure we will find something, we’ve got people going to sites where people have disappeared and looking into traces and signals that have been left behind, something is bound to flag up. And the researchers will keep monitoring the fire demons.”
Stark sighed. And you got a feeling that until this thing was settled he was never be satisfied, knowing the people of Earth were in danger.
“Meeting adjourned or whatever… I need a fucking drink.”
***
“13 down, 7 letters, a drawing intended to explain how something happens.”
“Diagram?”
Oliver nodded, writing it down.
“Okay… 5 across, 5 letters, spaghetti for example that’s got to be pasta…what about this one, 8 letters, endurance.”
“Stamina? No wait, that’s only 7…patience?”
“Yeah, has to be.”
It was the day after Starks meeting. Loki had wheeled you back into your hospital room after the meeting and then he’d had to then leave pretty sharpish, stating he had something he needed to do although you wondered if he still felt awkward about the whole friends with benefits thing. Then again, you wondered if Loki ever really felt awkward about anything, or if he was immune to embarrassment.
After the meeting you had been so damn tired that by the time he’d wheeled you back you’d been nearly asleep. The meeting was the most you had done since the attack and it had exhausted you.
Plus you were still pretty drowsy from all the pain medication you were on. You’d expected him to call over a nurse but instead he’d actually gotten you the medication you needed and then to your extreme surprise, he’d picked you up from your chair bridal style and put you into bed.
You were almost too sleepy to have noticed what was going on, but shockingly you were certain he had left a featherlight kiss on your forehead before he left.
Maybe you had imagined it in your sleepy state, after all he hadn’t been in to see you today.
The nurse had visited today and checked you over, changing your bandages. She had assured you your burns were healing nicely, and Loki’s fast thinking of applying his cold skin to your stomach and chest had saved most of your skin resulting in you only needing a smallish emergency skin graft.
You’d also been joined by Oliver, who had come prepared for the nurses recommendation of resting as much as possible by providing cross-words.
“You’re pretty good at these.” He gave his lopsided grin.
“Symptoms of a misguided youth I’m afraid. I might not have gone to Harvard but I am pretty nifty with a crossword.”
“Harvard’s overrated.”
“Alright for you to say Mr Ivy League.”
Oliver chuckled. “Wait this is a cryptic one, it says ‘to tantalise the left is a plant.’
“Huh? Wait let me see.”
Oliver stood up from the chair and brought the book over to you. He perched himself on the edge of your hospital bed and you moved over to give him more room.
“Do you need any more medication?” Oliver suddenly asked.
“I should be good thank you.” You smiled at him.
Man he was so sweet. Loki had done the same thing yesterday but still. It was nice to have someone else here who cared about you.
You caught his blue eyes. He had nice looking eyes you noticed, but they missed the tint of green you were used to seeing in Loki’s eyes.
Actually, why where you thinking about Lokis eyes at all?
Oliver placing his hand over yours on the bed brought you back to the present moment.
“I was thinking, maybe when you’re feeling better I could take you….”
Before Oliver could finish his sentence, the door to your room opened and Loki strode in.
Loki took in your close proximity to Oliver, and the fact you were holding hands and his eyes narrowed.
There was a moment of awkward silence, and for some reason your natural instinct was to jump back sheepishly from Oliver. Despite having no reason at all to feel guilt, you still felt…something.
“I had come to see how you were faring, but I see you have company already.” Those blue/green eyes you had just been thinking about were harsher than you had seen them in a while.
“We were just doing cross words.” You said, lamely.
Instead of keeping your mouth shut you continued like an imbecile. “Erm were stuck on a cryptic one if you wanted to help…”
“And intrude on this…personal moment.” He sneered.
“That wasn’t…I mean we were just…” You started and then sat up further in bed, trying to look authoritative, which was harder than you might think for someone attached to an IV drip. “Actually I don’t have to explain myself to you.”
“Oh, I see.” His voice was cold, and it felt like the room got colder too.
“What do you see?”
Loki ignored you.
“Get out.” He directed at Oliver.
Your temper started to rise.
“Hey, he doesn’t have to leave we were in the middle of something.”
“Look, um maybe I should just go.” Oliver spoke up squeezing your hand before standing up.
“I’ll leave the book here for you for when you get bored. I hope you feel better, I’ll come visit again soon and bring some more stuff.” He gave you a quick kiss on the cheek.
Kudos to Oliver, he walked past Loki out of the room without crying or screaming.
After he had left, Loki breezed into the room and arranged the flowers at the table at the bottom of the table like he hadn’t just yelled at your friend to leave.
“Dude what is wrong with you?” You directed at Loki. “I am allowed to have friends!”
He rolled his eyes.
“He clearly wants to be more than friends.”
You made a funny noise in the back of your throat. You wouldn’t be totally against Oliver having more than friendly feelings, a distraction from these insane feelings for Loki that keep creeping up out of no where might be a good thing, right?
Not that you had any feelings for Loki, obviously.
Loki studied you closely before clearing his throat.
“Are you and this mortal…friends with benefits?”
“Loki!” You glared at him.
His facial expression remained calm as he continued staring at you.
“I’m simply asking."
“No! No, God I wish you had never learnt what that term meant. Also I am sleeping next to you every night where would I find the time?”
“Yes, you are aren’t you.” He said, too smugly for your liking.
“Although I do have every right to explore…you know, that side of things with someone if I want to.”
His eyes narrowed again, and stood up taller.
“We are in the middle of a crisis here. Is now the right time to be engaging in a dalliance?”
“You can’t be serious!” You said indignantly.
“I’m being very serious!” He matched your tone.
"Are you giving me a lecture right now on my love life?” When he didn’t say anything you continued.
“You don’t even care about humans, why are you even bothered about this crisis suddenly?”
“You’re being ridiculous, you can’t seriously mean to engage with this… mere mortal. ”
“I’m being ridiculous? You’re being ridiculous! In case you forgot, I happen to be a mere mortal too!”
Loki kind of did look taken a back for a second, as if he had actually forgotten that.
“What I get up to is not even any of your business.” You told him
“Fine.” He sneered, walking towards the door.
“Fine!” You shouted back.
He slammed the door behind him as you threw your puzzle book at him.
“Ah!” You screamed to yourself.
The cheek of that asshole to have a go at you for letting yourself engage in some dating when he was the one that slept with Ylva while you were touring around Asgard.
You tossed and turned around in your bed, but eventually the drowsiness kicked back in and you managed to fall asleep.
***
One moment, you were fast asleep, the next moment you heard an explosion. You sat up quickly, disorientated and confused. Another explosion sounded and you got up and ran to the window.
You blinked and blinked again.
A piece of metal fell seemingly from the sky and you looked up.
The tower was under attack.
