STEP ASIDE EGO In my struggle of getting back to my fitness peak, a friend calls me to join him a step class he usually attends. Step class is an aerobics class that involves using about a metre long step and based on a highly technical, complicated, shit-my-pants routine (okay, might be a slight exaggeration J) which is led by an instructor. My friend started step class three months prior to inviting me and I had been attending on-and-off eight years deep. So it shouldn’t be anything but a thing to this pro! “Sure, I’ll join you!” I said. I had been through three instructors and have always worked my way from the back of the class to the front, because yes, I got my shit together yo! To my surprise and delight, my friend placed us right at the front of the class! My confidence quickly shot down my fear and anxiety and instructed me “Have fun, boo!” so I took it in my stride and did the damn thing! Needless to say, I had the time of my life! I was buzzing from endorphins and arrogance, astounded at how much sauce (fleek/sassiness on a hundred!) I had. Although I had a few miss-steps and had some errors with my eight year experience, I was able to quickly learn like a pro since each instructor has a unique technique. So it was no surprise when he invited me to another step class the next day; I responded “Damn skippy!”. He warned it would be more technical but surely, I would conquer this one too. The stage was set, the music was ready, I stared myself in the mirror from the second row and chanted “You got this” while my heartbeat banged like drums, AND ACTION! Twenty-minutes into the class I looked at myself in the mirror with aching agony in my eyes wanting to shout out “How the hell did I get here?! You were supposed to have gotten this! How did this happen?!” I legit looked like I had started step just 20 minutes ago! I straight up looked at the instructor in disbelief like “How could you brother? How could you do this to me? Who sent you?!” The last 10 minutes were spent by 80% of the class members watching the instructor and the four professional step dancers do their fancy footwork, prancing around like perfect penguins. Man, I left that class feeling defeated, embarrassed and wanting to tell everyone “I’m actually great at step!” Of course, there were lessons in the two mentioned events. Man, the ego really had me where it hurts! Because of my “experience” in step, having friends tell me they can’t do it because it’s so difficult, my ego muscle was at its peak strength when it came to step. Having the understanding that my friend who had started step class three months prior had the ability to keep up in the classes, made me feel as though the classes would be a game in the park. I was wrong. When you have worked at something for so long and have become a pro at something, you feel on top of the world, as though you are of a different breed. However, that’s when you need to take up a new challenge, add on to your experience, become a learner again. In my case, get out of your comfort zone, try new instructors, fall on your face and learn something new. Where is the joy in having reached your pinnacle and staying there? The saying rings true, “Don’t rest on your laurels”. Therefore, when you feel comfortable, when you think you have learned enough, it may be time to learn something new or maybe relearn everything from a different perspective. But keep on learning. Just as the writer Paulo Coelho once said, water has lessons to learn as it ascend towards the sky to form the rain and it falls down and relearns everything again as it ascends. The journey of learning never ends. From a learning soul to yours, with love.

Be still. it takes no effort to be still; it is utterly simple. When your mind is still, you have no name, you have no past, you have no relationships, you have no country, you have no spiritual attainment, you have no lack of spiritual attainment. There is just the presence of beingness with itself.

FIVE DAYS IN THE BUSH
My mom decided to book a holiday in the bush for just the two of us, after seven days at my 9 to 5. I mean, it’s totally normal to test the waters of corporate world then take 8 days off to think about life… A bit of a mindfuck if you ask me, but hey, we’ll go with it!
We reached our destination after a 2 hour drive and a relaxed brunch. We toured our chalet and well, it was…okay ; not exciting, not too bad, just okay. The first evening and breakfast was spent at the green and brown interior-designed restaurant without much lighting; naturally, we opted for the outside seating. The food was…okay, but certainly not vegetarian friendly. However, I never complain when I’m faced with a situation that “forces” me to have fries, scones and muffins on tap 😜. You know, pick your battles! So I roll with it.
The next two days were really great; the kid in me escaped out of my (seemingly) adult body and got comfortable in the warm side of the North West. We went to an amusement park, got toppled over by a wicked wave. Enjoyed a water ride; got splashed so hard we couldn’t tell up from down. We laughed our heads off from all the shenanigans, swam in the resort’s green pool…(again, we’ll roll with it)…napped for hours, took long walks around the nature reserve and went on a 3-hour game drive, getting to know more about our distant cousins embodied in Kudu’s, Impala’s, Zebra’s, Impala’s, Elephants, Impala’s, Rhino’s, Impala’s, Hippo’s and more Impala’s! We got so familiar with those Impala’s that everywhere we went they were there, even on our front porch. Maybe there was an omen we missed, but hey, we were Impala’d out man!
A couple of lessons peaked at me in those past days. Firstly, it’s very important to be aware that life does not happen to you but that you move with the flow of life. Don’t always try fight every obstacle that comes your way (there’s a time and a place for that), you will lose all the energy that should be spent on the joys of life. Jump in a green pool, sit in a not-so-fine-dining restaurant and enjoy the company you have and the people around you. Life is not always about getting what you want, but rather making the most of it as though it was what you asked for.
Another lesson, my most memorable and best moments were shared with my company, my bestie, my dearest mother. I got reminded of her beautiful and mature age, how far we’ve come and how far my parents have come through hard work and being damn amazing people! The laughter we shared on this trip was truly priceless. The wishes and dreams we spoke were put out to the universe to hear so to make them come to fruition. This too will keep us honest in our plight to achieve them. These moments are what make life meaningful and truly, they are the most important things.
A lesson that kept creeping on my yearning soul was the beauty that surrounds us and that is within us. All the animals we saw, were absolutely at peace in their surroundings and they were co-existing with ones that were unlike them. There was a deep stillness, yet energy-infused tranquillity in the bush with a harmonious silent chanting of “all is well with my soul”. Everything is where it’s supposed to be, life is moving as it’s supposed to be, all in a divinely guided cycle which is ruled by oneness. We all carry a frequency that gently pulls us like a magnet to its divine power, its journey and its source. We all play a part to what has culminated in what we know as today. We all have a responsibility to continue harvesting goodness of intention, compassion and love into this world. We each hold a piece of the earth’s soul; do not shy away and decrease yourself, it serves no one. We need you, we need your energy to make this place one conducive for years to come.
Step in authority and in love, leaving your footprint on this ground, which craves it so desperately.
From a learning soul to yours, with love.

It all starts with me. Change. Compassion. Love. Discipline. Dreams. It all starts with me. I started this blog a year ago and it has taken sometime to get divine guidance on the direction and tone it should take. It is clear now...and i'm freaken excited!!!! This process has brought a key lesson, take time to be guided from within, if it takes a year, two or ten, be kind to yourself regardless. It will happen when it's supposed to and when you are most ready. I hope you enjoy it! Let the blogging begin *rubs hands*

Thoughts from today's service: "Everything and everyone is where they are supposed to be. Are doing what they are supposed to be doing, good or bad. They are all in the ministry of God, guiding you towards God's spiritual purpose. Your Inner purpose. Don't waste your time stuck on how they should be living, focus on God's glory, grace, mission and vision. Everything supernaturally works towards Him. We are all in the ministry of God. Oneness." #backtobasics #spirituality #oneness #love #embracingthesun

Take the time to see the Divine in the other. To see the beautiful mess in them. To see love in the other. Most of us adults walk around with bruised souls from our pasts, experiences and let downs. And we carry them with a brave face of "I'm fine; such is life". But we fail to recognise and acknowledge the same bruised souls in others. #namaste #spirituality #spiritualjourney #onelove #love #light #embracingthesun #compassion

An old post...This time last year (no really, I checked 😋), I posted this same tree with a caption of taking time to smell the roses; appreciating life. #blessed to have had the opportunity again to reminisce on the beauty of life. Take a moment today to inhale the beauty of life and exhale the unpleasant experiences that build us. #lifeisbeautiful #imperfectbutbeautiful #thankful #grateful #blessingsonblessingsonblessings #TGIF #journeytoiam #spiritual #growth #journey (at Marlboro)
