Blog #14: Too Old for Birthdays
Jan 13th, 2016
Happy Almost Birthday to me! Tomorrow I’ll be turning 23- another year older.
When I was younger, like everyone else, birthday parties were a must and were the funniest thing ever to attend. We’d invite family, friends, neighbors to our birthday party and have the standard birthday celebration. This would either be hosted at home or if we could afford it at the local bowling alley, ice rink, arcade, etc. We would shop for a variety of party favors: party hats, party blowers, necklaces for girls, cars for boys and whatever we could find in the party aisle for a cheap price. And the usual food would often be pizza, which can serve many people at a low cost and of course birthday cake. If we were lucky enough ice cream would be served as well.
From there, as we got older, our birthdays became less about the physical aspects of it and more towards less parent supervision and hanging out with your friends. Of course, your closest friends would still get you a gift. ☺ But now as I get older, I don’t have a desire to celebrate my birthday. Eating out with my family and boyfriend is plenty. Anyways planning on when, where, who will attend…without leaving anyone excluded is a task in itself. So while there are individuals who love celebrating their birthday and make a big fiasco out of it I’ll just be relaxing when 23 rolls around and every year after that, most likely working. I won’t mind though, if my boyfriend surprises me!!

Blog #13: Learning to Work with Others
December 5th, 2015
I was never really a fan of group projects. It was always hard to find times that worked for everyone and often times, if not, there were people that didn’t do as much as everyone else. I preferred working alone on assignments or projects, because if anything went wrong I could only blame myself. I understood the value of working with other people, but at times it did more bad than good. When graduation came around, I thought it would be the end of group projects.
But hold and behold, I am currently facing the same issues and problems at work. I have been working at my new job for about 2 months now and have been enjoying everything about it minus one thing…my coworker. He’s been working there for about 3 months longer than me, but it seems like the other way around. He always seems to disappear when work needs to be done, makes excuses that he has something else to do or just takes a long time to complete a simple task. To top it off, he comes later than me and sometimes leaves before me. Since I come in for the regular 8 hours and earlier than him, I often get more work finished and have to push the extra mile to get work done that he has either not gotten to or has not finished. I’ve even had to help him catch up on his work too… It would be great to get him to get his work done, but I find it longer to find him to complete a task than for me to just do it without asking for help.
Urgh the annoyance of working with someone like that drives me crazy at times, but I’ll have to learn to adapt and deal with it because I’ll have to work with him for quite awhile. And I’ll just make myself more miserable with this negative perspective. If things get worse to worse, I’ll bring it up to my supervisor. That should fix all my problems or at least some of them. But lol I am one that doesn’t like to do that. We’ll see what happens though. On the plus side, I’ve been hearing positive feedback and compliments on my work ethics from several people and that really puts a smile on my face and pushes me to do the best that I can. So I wouldn’t let someone ruin my day, because I enjoy everything else about my job. ☺
