I am so far behind! Recently, I spilled my drink all over my old copy, and decided to take it as an opportunity to start fresh! I have to admit, I've fallen behind with this book and find myself struggling to keep up with the plot - I keep getting distracted by other books! But I've decided to take it one day at a time and focus my attention on War and Peace. My goal is to read a chapter a day, and if I read more, even better! I'm also learning to accept that it's okay to slow down and enjoy life a bit. I don't have to read 100 books a year or compete with anyone else. Reading should be enjoyable, not a race to the finish line. I have to confess that in the past I have been a huge book snob and looked down on romance novels. However, in the last few years my attitude to them has completely changed. Sometimes you need to try something new and there are some great writers out there. More than that, it’s ok to just enjoy what you enjoy. Life is too hard not to take joy where you can. I’m really excited to get tucked into this one that I picked up at @fictionandfrictionbookseller. This was my second year of not setting a reading goal, and while I know I haven’t hit the impressive numbers I see on here and BookTok, I’m still pretty happy with the number I’ve read. I’ve written an article in the past about the pressure trying to hit a huge reading goal can put you under, especially as we compare ourselves to other readers on social media. For me it still rings true. I’m a slow reader, with a lot going on and am currently in a massive slump. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get out of my slump soon, but if I don’t then that’s ok too.
