I enjoyed the talks we got at the Apex and I thought they were very helpful and interesting.
I think my favorite was Tom Fisher and that’s probably because he was a former WSC student so it shows that it’s not impossible to become successful in the industry. I also felt like his was the most captivating because a lot of the other ones were boring because the speaker either didn’t have a lot of emotion in what they said or I didn’t really like their work. For example with Caryn Franklin, she had a very monotone voice and spoke quite quietly and I wasn’t a fan of her work.

I decided that the first story board (the bottom picture) was too far fetched and I couldn't figure out how I would film it.

This is the final board square and card for my game piece. I used the eye on the games square because it is the main feature of my piece and it is very clear that it is my piece’s square and I used the red on the card to show that my piece is not a good character and the consequence of landing on my square fits in with the piece’s back story.

I like the variation in Casey Love’s work because he doesn’t just work on one type of creature or one type of size but he has a lot of different designs and will sometimes do full body sculptures or just heads.

I really like his work on Predator as well because I really like the design and paint of the creature. My favorite aspect of it is the mouth and how the teeth are placed and the crown like scales that go around the top of the head. I think it shows just how dangerous the predator is and that he is just a predator and all he does is kill and shows that he is the top of the food chain. I like that the predator design has a human like body and a slightly human like head with the eye and mouth placement but also looks nothing like a human at the same time.

I really like Don Lanning’s sculptures because I like the realism even though they’re not real creatures. I like how much detail they have with all the textures and and how he has shown the detail in the skin with where it is stretched over things. I also like how they have human like features on some of them because it makes them more believable instead of just being completely ridiculous designs. I was going to use this in my head sculpture but decided not to because I wanted it to be a very different species to humans.

In this video the artist smooths the sculptures surface with turpentine and a paint brush. I did something similar to this on my head sculpture but I only used water and a paintbrush which is a technique I saw in a different video. It worked quite well but took a lot of brushing to get smooth. I also don’t think I used enough water.

I am quite happy with how the pictures ended up and I tried to take them in areas that the parasite would typically be found like in wooded areas. My favorites are the ones that are in the bushier areas because it’s as if the parasite is hiding away in them. I think the only improvement I would have made is better lighting because it was quite a dark and cloudy day.
I am happy with the end plushie but I wish I had sewed the spikes on because the hot glue made the plushie more stiff around them. Also I wish I had added more spikes because there is only one on the back. I also wish I had added the eye that I had initially planned on doing but I didn’t want to hit glue it on and it become stiff and also the appliqué wouldn’t work.

Trailer Evaluation.
I am very happy with the outcome of my trailer because I think it turned out how I expected it to. I think the music fitted in with the tone of the trailer and with the clips a lot better than I expected. I think the only thing I would've liked to improve was the length because it is a bit short and maybe have done some more shots to make it clearer as to what the plot of the film is.
I am happy with how the trailer starts because I wanted it to start quite slow which it does and then slowly pick up as the music builds up which I think I managed to achieve decently well. I like the way the first scene introduces someone trying to break in because it leaves people wondering what was banging on the door however I think it might've been better if I had made the door move as well.
I think my favourite shot is either the axe swing because of the cut to a different angle not switches to half way through or the scene with the hand slamming onto the window because I knew I wanted a scene like that that fitted with the music as well and I think it turned out very nicely.
Over all I am very happy with the final trailer but there are some things I wish I could have changed but not drastically.

I’m a big fan of this piece that was made by someone else in the class. I’ve always liked busts and head sculptures because I think they look really good. I like that the base and wooden dowel have been painted to fit in with the sculpture because it ties the piece together nicely and I like that the color of the head stands out instead of blending in with the stand. I think this works well because the green isn’t too bright but is bright enough for it to be the main focus with being too in your face and I think the yellow highlights help with that. I like the skin details with the holes as well because it shows that the creature doesn’t have perfect skin and is quite rugged and has lots of pores.

This is a model that someone else in the class made. I think it looks very good even though it is not finished yet. I really like the proportions of the sculpture and the way that it looks kind of creepy but not too creepy at the same time. I think the positioning of the character helps to add this effect as well. I like how they've added some missing teeth and patches on the clothes because it shows that it is quite an old and beat up clown character instead of being clean and well looked after. I like the addition of wrinkles on the clothes because it shows that there is actual movement happening instead of them just being stiff.

This is a model that one of the second years made which I really like. I like the simple design and paint but it still has a lot of details because the paint shows that the creature is very dirty and they have added small spikes on the legs with is very insect like and the small teeth are all individual pieces which I really like.
