It’s terrifying how similar we think sometimes. I wouldn’t have it any other way though 😘 @dajosaf

Adventures in Anxiety
So I had a really stressful/overwhelming day in class yesterday (seriously y’all fuck accounting istg). Then I have to go to work. I went to shred something and my boss asked me to hand it to him so he could use it as scrap paper, but it didn’t register fast enough and I shredded it. Not a big deal right? We have PLENTY of paper in the pharmacy. But it stressed me out. So I started popping the hair tie on my wrist(my boss has picked up on the fact that I do that when anxious). He walks over to me, and really quietly so that nobody else gets all up in my business, tells me to stop. He’s gentle about it? Tells me I don’t need to be mad at myself, it’s not a big deal. Then he asks me if it’s okay to hug me. I said no, and he just smiled and said ok. But ten minutes later I walked over to him and laid my head on his shoulder. Forehead to shoulder, a minimal touch. He doesn’t say anything. Just lets me rest there for a minute.
Why is this a big deal? Why am I telling you this? Because four months ago, he had no idea what anxiety was like. He made fun of me for flinching, called me a snowflake, was generally awful. Don’t let anybody use age as an excuse to belittle you for your mental issues. My boss is 55. He was not raised with mental health awareness. But he learned. When I came to work for him, he started asking respectful questions. He learned that we can’t have some blanket protocol for how to treat people. He learned because he gives a shit, about me. So if there is somebody in your life who isn’t learning, who isn’t even trying? Someone who repeatedly mocks you, triggers you, or makes you feel unsafe? Drop them. There is no excuse for that behavior.

sometimes i hate being a writer bc literally everything in the world can give me an idea for a story and that makes me want to write it before i finish the stuff i’ve already started and then that makes me want to punch myself in the face

different types of “i’m a famous author” daydreams:
on a panel at a book convention with other famous authors (we are all friends with a great dynamic and they think i’m cool)
what the about the author section looks like (author picture is black and white but casual, i’m not looking at the camera and look semi-mysterious but in a cool and approachable way)
the dedications of the books (definitely implies to the reader that there is an inside joke with the person it’s dedicated to here)
book covers (if i imagine too many kinds it’s just because they get cool re-released covers and special editions)
trailer of the movie adaptation (and that moment in the movie credits when it says based on the book by my name)
not “i’m a famous author” daydreams:
having this be my job when in reality i procrastinate so much

Life is so full of unpredictable beauty and strange surprises. Sometimes that beauty is too much for me to handle. Do you know that feeling? When something is just too beautiful? When someone says something or writes something or plays something that moves you to the point of tears, maybe even changes you.
Mark Oliver Everett, Things The Grandchildren Should Know (via books-n-quotes)

I want you to take a look at your story. What’s your favorite part about it? Hold onto that. Don’t worry about your least favorite parts right now. Don’t let them taint the magic of your piece.
