thinking about how, in ephemeral, marinette asked herself, “how can i be in love with adrien if i’m not in love with chat noir?” and the answer she came up with “i’m in love with chat noir”

and it’s not really said, but the second half of the montage did such a good job depicting that. in the first half, she’s freaking out and trying to mesh them in her mind, but it doesn’t work. but when she tries just looking at chat noir, really looking at him — not trying to figure out the puzzle but letting herself fall in love with that side of him — then it clicks, suddenly and easily. and that whole second montage, she’s just watching chat noir be chat noir — they don’t show moments where he acts like adrien, not until the umbrella scene. just chat noir doing what he always does, fighting by her side. and when she falls in love with that part of him, she is finally ready to see him
