MR. & MRS. MELLARK HEAD CANONS
Well, you asked about my headcanons about The Hunger Games parent generation. Here’s the small part about Peeta’s family. If my English wasn’t so terrible, I would have written a little fanfiction describing this scenes, and it would have taken much less time than these comics 😂. But I had to draw it all.
So the first scene takes place on the evening of the day when future Mrs. Everdeen leaves home and runs off to the Seam with Mr. Everdeen. The second scene unfolds after the broadcast of the 74th hunger games, when Peeta tells Katniss about how he fell in love with her.
The Night she left and The Night she came
Tumblr media
Try Again
Tumblr media
Now my thoughts:
I’m one of those people who doesn’t think Mrs. Mellark is absolutely evil. In my head, she is like Joanna, not the most pleasant person for sure but she has her reasons through. So:
1. Mr. Mellark says he wanted to marry Katniss’s mother, but she ran away with the coal miner. So, before she ran away, he still had some kind of hope to marry her and was unlikely to be in a relationship, let alone married. However, before the birth of the first Everdeen child, he manages to become a father twice, and the third son is born in the same year as Katniss. Somehow all this is pretty fast for a man who was hoping to marry another woman. This gave birth to the idea for the first scene: a quick, unexpected wedding with a girl he never thought would be his wife (and he married her the next day, yeah).
2. Mrs. Mellark (at least in my head) is very impulsive and sometimes doesn’t pay attention to what she says, especially when she is hurt or angry. This translates into beating Peeta in the burned bread situation, her cruel words during goodbye session in the Justice Building (it seems to me that she was so angry with fate at that moment that there could be no talk of any sentimentality, and indeed she is not from those people who know how to support with words, she is a person of action). This impulsiveness, decisiveness and rationalism (be in the same position and both win from the marriage) are reflected in the first scene.
3. I don’t think she beats her children on a regular basis. Impulsiveness, anger at the world, not the easiest life, her husband too soft compared to her tough character, three teenage sons - all this sometimes drives her crazy. And Mrs. Mellark is doing not so well with self-control.
4. I have two different theories about this generation in my head. Drawn one is where all these people (Mellarks, Everdeens, Donners, Abernathy) know each other and maybe used to be friends someday. So I don’t think Mrs. Mellark didn’t know whose daughter Katniss is. But also I think she didn’t recognize Katniss that burned bread day. And if she did, she would give her bread herself. Yes, perhaps the worst they had, but she would (that sounds crazy, I know, I have rich imagination 😂).
5. About the reputation of the “witch”. Here’s what I think: The Mellarks own the only bakery in the poorest district, where someone is constantly starving to death. Imagine how many desperate people come to bakery doors every day? Mellarks themselves cannot afford fresh food or meat from the store. How many people have Mr. and Mrs. Mellark seen in a state of near death, but could not help without leaving their family to starve? Mr. Mellark seems to me to be a kind-hearted person, it is difficult situation for him. So Mrs. Mellark has taken on the role of a person who must make it clear that they simply have nothing to help the people who come to their doors. And the reputation of an evil bitch is very useful in this matter. Nobody will come to her. And no one will expect her family members to turn against her. Naturally, I’m not saying that this is faked and that at night she cries into her pillow because she yells at people all day. It is in her character. And at the same time, she had to become tougher and hard. First of all, she must think about the well-being of her family. Well, for me this is one of the reasons for her anger at the world, she lives in constant pain from the inconsistency of her life with those dreams that she had on the day depicted in the first scene.
6. I am sure that after Peeta’s return, things have improved in the Mellark family. Peeta often visits his family at the bakery, dines with them, writes farewell letters when they are not allowed to say everything in person before the quarter quell.
7. And I really think they love each other. Mr and Mrs Mellark I mean:)
This, of course, is not all my thoughts, but you are probably already tired of understanding my English, so for now I will stop. Share your thoughts please :)

SECOND QUARTER QUELL II UPRISING AU
Ok, look. I’m obsessed with Second Quarter Quell generation and I have A LOT of head canons about them. And sometimes these head canons contradict each other, lol. Previously I showed you some of my illustrations about SQQ generation but it was always one particular AU (where they all are kinda friends/classmates?). And I think it’s time to show you another one that I also like. This is AU (or “head canon” since we don’t really know what is real and what is not) where all of them were part of revolutionary movement before the 50th Hunger Games. Some things are the same in both universes (Mr. Hawthorne and Mrs.Mellark are best friends in both, haha), some are completely different (Mr.Mellark and Mrs.Mellark were not in love in “uprising au” and had to marry for the sake of revolution after Mr.M/Mr.E partnership was broken, oh oh, that was super dramatic!). But they look pretty much the same in every AU I have in my head haha. So here are quick portraits of SQQ gen characters and their confident files from D13 before the 50th Hunger Games reaping day (everything went wrong after that, huh).
About Donner sisters. Peeta said that Mr.Mellark described them as “twins or something” and I interpreted this “something” as that they were not identical twins. Katniss was amazed by young Mrs.Undersee and Madge’s similarity but she didn’t have this feeling about Maysilee. So I think they looked like sisters but not super similar to each other. I mean, I’m a mother of identical twins, I know what I’m talking about lol.
These portraits are not perfect and were done quickly but I really tried 😅. Funny fact: overall I have more clear vision of SQQ characters than THG characters, haha (especially young Haymitch, Mr.Everdeen, Hazelle and Mrs.Mellark). Oh, and you have no idea how much time I’ve spent on these files lol. I don’t even know WHY I did it, because obviously no one cares, but this idea lived in my head for far too long. Ugh, I’m finally free of it. And now I need to return to my work and also main series uffffffff.
P.S. “agent Fox” is Haymitch’s girl, but I have no decent head canon for her
P.P.S. I don’t mention any names because I try not to be too attached to particular names for these characters (who knows maybe one day Suzanne will reveal some information and I don’t want to be upset lol)

if all the POV holder’s couldn’t win and were able to chose another person to win instead, who would they choose? (that’s currently alive, sorry Evelyn)
this is honestly interesting so I’m just gonna put my assumptions
Claudia doesn’t like Garde, maybe enough to override district pride, so she would probably choose Polina or Beau, due to them being nice to her, most likely Polina, though
Isak wouldn’t really like anybody, but out of the people available, I think he would choose Carmen
Cypress would choose Juniper (for obvious reasons)
idk who Evelyn would choose if she can’t choose Avery, but maybe Lexie since she thinks she’s the next sane normal person in line
Taurus would choose between Carmen and Beau, depending on how much Beau interacts with him later on
anyways, due to being the author and the literal creator of these characters u probably have the most accurate and detailed responses to this question
Yeah for some of them I have a stronger answer based on future events, but for what is currently the status quo this seems accurate:)

Hot take of the day: Chloe Stans have it the roughest of all <insert character name> Stans. There, I said it.
Go to canon and their fave is done dirty. If y'all think having a flood of saltfics for your fave is rough, at least you can reassure yourself none of it is real. Chloe stans don't get that luxury. Canon feels like a salt fic featuring their fave, unrecognizable from who she was from S1-S3.
Go to fandom and almost everyone talks shit about them as if they're the only ones with vocal toxic stannies among them.
Not helped when A$$truc pretty much encourages this by talking shit about them too. True, he may have had a bad experience with them, but I highly doubt it's only the Chloe Stans sending him hate mail over his writing choices.
Let's face it, every group has their share of rotten apples. It's just that the more popular a character, the more likely it is and the worse they typically are. For every complaint I've seen about a Chloe Stan, I can think of a time a Marinette Stan rubbed me the wrong way.
It's one thing to see people talk shit about a fictional character, it's a whole other ballpark to see people talk shit about a group of real people who just happen to like the same character as if their bad apples represent them as a whole.
They get generalized with all kinds of shit like being called abuse apologists when really, from what I've seen, they're THE most vocal against child abuse. Most Chloe stans and Chloe neutrals I've seen and gotten to know wouldn't be caught dead saying anyone deserves child abuse.
The few instances I've personally seen people say a character deserves child abuse, it's typically aimed at Chloe. Those same people also love to preach about being against abuse. Please. Think harder. Someone acknowledging some fictional brat is abused in a story is not the same as someone delegitimizing your own bad experience. Ugh I swear some of these people act like it's a personal attack to say Chloe is a product of her environment.
The way I've seen certain sides of the fandom talk about Chloe Stans, it's like they're the plague of the fandom. Ignore the other toxic sides of the fandom that Stan someone else. Don't listen to people with valid criticisms of the show because chances are Chloe's gonna come up at some point and that makes what they have to say as invalid cause it's friggin Chloe. They're abuse apologists for pointing out a bad person can be in a cycle of abuse.
I dunno man. Maybe it's just the misfortune of having their fave be the first on the chopping block that gained them this rep. They're the first to get vocal with their complaints after the Chameleon salt flood. When really, Chloe's arc just the first big red flag on how character arcs are gonna go: all that build up leads to nothing. It's a pattern my cynical butt has noticed. The Chloe Stan experience of being disappointed in what canon wrote her to do is now a universal experience. I'd thought that'd give more room for empathy but I guess not. Not when canon gives them just enough copium by them not being completely malicious.
They seemed delusional for getting upset their fave didn't get the redemption they wanted, people saying it's cause she didn't change enough or put in enough effort and woe are the victims to need to forgive their bullies for doing one good deed this and this is not how you write a redemption that... And yet that's pretty much what happened with everyone else getting a redemption in later seasons like, how is Chloe supposed to be irredeemable???
This isn't me saying anyone's experience with Chloe stans are invalid. Like I'm sure there are Chloe stans who really are as toxic as they say. My first hate mail came from a Chloe Stan. But that Chloe Stan who sent me hate mail doesn't represent them all.
It's just unfair to write off an entire group for the few of them that are truly as bad as they say. This is the hill I will die on.

Read your 1QQ fic and thought it was amazing though I cried when Avery died 😭😭😭. However I do have some questions .
Do you think Mags voted for Polina or Sheelin ?
Also does Kennedy remember the 1QQ and who do you think she voted for ?
How old was Ravinstill by the 1QQ since apparently he is still president by then ?
Which district had the easiest time when deciding which tributes to vote for and which district found it the most difficult to decide who to vote for ? I imagine District 9 would have it a lot easier when deciding who to vote for since Harvie wanted to die and Wheaton was a weirdo.
Did the 12 tributes know the Covey ?
Anyways loved reading your fic and excited to read future chapters :)
Awww thank you so much, and good luck with future scenes, because oh some of my fave sad scenes hasn’t showed up yet 😭
For Mags I could imagine her voting for one of them in an attempt to get a good tribute into the games. I know people have the image of her as a sweet old lady, but honestly really fw the idea of her being the reason D4 is even considered a Career District
Kennedy does remember the Quell, was just not old enough to vote in it being 11 when they happened. Imagine she found Greason scary and felt bad for Lexie.
Imagine Ravinstill at this point is pretty old being at least in his mid 70s when the Quell is happening and he does die/put out office a few years after the Quell happened
Yeah probarbly agree that D9 had maybe some of the easier voting, think also the voting for D7 went easily by as well
No don’t think they knew the Covey well seeing as they would have been born/been babies around the time TBOSAS takes place
And yes hope to update soon with Christmas break around the corner

But didn't Felix hate his father and knew he was a bad man ? If he saw his father doing such things (especially towards his mother) , he would know it's wrong and not do that to LB. The only way I could imagine him learning such things from his father is if he and his father has a "okay" relationship and Felix didn't think his father was a bad man which we know is not true.
Hey, you know how the show would explain Marinette's obsessive romantic pursuit of Adrien (which was played for comedy) through Chloé's awful prank in the episode "Derision"? Well, what if in season six, the writers would have Félix explain his forceful advances to kiss Ladybug due to what he learned from his father?
Oh please no. With every act they choose to excuse with a sad backstory, they weaken whatever the heck they were trying to say with Derision.

imagine in the 25th games somebody wants to vote a kid in, because they’re loud and annoying but they don’t know the kid’s name but they do know what they look like. same thing could apply to a bully, or a kid they think could win, or a pervert. and what happens if they spell somebody’s name wrong, or there’s multiple people with the same names (like in D7 where nearly everybody is named after some tree or plant). or what if there’s an equal amount of votes for some kids? (definitely rare). the voting process for the 25th games is vague since honestly you can just vote for anyone ages 12-18 so there’s probably little towns or areas of a district that agreed somehow they would collectively vote for a kid. plus there could be kids who could win and kids who are suicidal and kids who people want gone so yeah. anyways yeah I can see just a lot of people going to the justice hall or whatever to check records and try to find the kid the want to vote in (kinda hard considering how big some districts are and how hard it is to get in there) so maybe there was a system set up for that or not. so what’s your take on it?
Think for certain districts where they would have in an actual voting poll where you cross out the name you're voting for (of course different pamphlets based on region and age, not all the names in one place)
Maybe even have some type of computer so you could search someone's name and vote for them that way. As said probably different methods in different Districts based on size and all that.
Kind of disagree that people would relish in the opportunity, or at least not the majority of people would relish in it. Think most votes were miscellaneous votes, where most people voted got a few votes, but some kids got way more for the reasons you mentioned. (Annoying, bad kids, think they could win, or just they hate their parents)
I vaguely touch upon it in my fic, but didn't go in details because like it's not really important to the story. Did almost include a segment where they reveal how many votes people got. But yeah I definitley imagine for some of the tributes in the fic, some of the tributes just a few votes short to have been voted in and others "won" by a landslide 😭

Kald-dal's QQ1 OCs Name Yap >:D P.2
Yeah, I picked out more last names for the characters without them, and I'm so sorry for taking so long to make a part 2 :,)
-
Juniper - Comes from the juniper tree, it means to produce, it also means young, and it also is connected with its berries. Juniper berries are medicinal plants, and in ancient Rome they were associated with positive qualities, such as protectiveness, life and growth, energy, purification, and cleansing. Saint Juniper is also known as ‘the jester of the Lord’ or ‘the saint of comedy and laughter’ and the man was also known for his patience. Juniper is also associated with evergreens and fruit. Juniper also means, spiritually, setting up boundaries and standing their ground. Also it’s a hippie name
Skye - It’s popular as a name in the Christian religion, but comes from Norse. But it means ‘clouds’. The name also means they are spiritually strong and intense, in both charm and stinging. To continue on Norse, it means ‘misty isle’. Also The Island of Skye is the one of the most beautiful of Scotland’s sights to see
So Juniper is healing, protective, funny, energetic, patient, and full of life and growth. So I can’t wait to see her character arc. And I think it’s kind of a long stretch, but due to The Island of Skye, y’know, being an island, means she’s kind of alone and cut off, but when people come to see the views there it’s beautiful and so amazing to really be there (the Island is like the most famous in Ireland but you get the idea)
-
Cypress - From the cypress tree. The cypress both represents everlasting life and mourning of loss. It is also a very flammable tree. In a Greek story, ‘Cyparrissus’ (another version of the name Cypress), accidentally killed his best friend and favorite companion, a trained stag, with a hunting javelin. In sadness, he transformed into a cypress tree so he could mourn eternally for his loss. This Greek character was also gay with Apollo at some point. Anyways, as a spiritual name it means natural transitions and the cycle of life
Holden - Means hold, but, fancy in old language. It also means deep valley. In the Bible, its meaning is trapped, restrained, or unable to see. Another meaning is Christian Jewish is willing, quiet, gracious, from the hollow in the valley
I swear if he accidentally kills Juniper in the story with an ax (or an unfamiliar weapon he was pushed to use more likely) I will scream and cry. Anyways, he will mourn, like a lot. But the cycle of life I guess. And he is a deep valley, so his character will get even deeper, he is a thankful, quiet, and willing guy, (absolute malewife to Juniper)
-
Evelyn - In the Bible, it means life light, ‘source of light and life’. In Greek and French it means desired and wished for. In German, the name was derived from the word ‘ewe’ which means, wishing well, winning, and being blessed. In Irish, it means beauty, birds, hazelnuts, and water. On a baby website, the name means intuitive, creative, and compassionate
Danvers - A dancer or acrobat. (I tried to search it up but all I got was how Danvers became a last name. But fan fact: Supergirl’s last name is Danvers)
So Evelyn has many definitions (as I kinda expected) and hey, intuitiveness and creativity while being compassionate seems like Evelyn well. And winning sounds fun. (Also I know like two Evelyns in real life, one is blonde and is a bit overprotective of their younger brother too)
-
Avery - Wise and whimsical, also the ruler of elves (in German). And most definitions found in forums and baby name sites do say the name just mostly means the ruler of elves (or counsel) and wisdom. The name also means leadership and nobility in the Bible. Being chosen by God, and experiencing transformation, growth, evolution, and improvement
Danvers - Originally from Norse, which traveled to mostly France and Belgium
Avery is the ruler of elves! Wow. But anyways, he grows and changes down the story (before dying sadly) and can’t wait for his arc
-
Harvie - Strong, worthy, carnage, determined, eager for battle. Really matches my first interpretation of her character. Hervey means illustrious warrior, army, noble, sublime, bright and shining. Harvey means, battle worthy in blazing iron. But Harvie sounds like the word harvest, which means gathering of crops
Pollock - A group of fish that is related to cods, but is a bit darker. Pollock is also slang for insulting a person of Polish birth or descent (it says it isn’t a slur though, but just a derogatory term relating to the fact the word means fish and cod). But the fish does symbolize abundance and prosperity, a vital source of food, and a provider of sustenance
I guess this name was mostly chosen due to it sounding like the word harvest. But it’s so funny how the actual definition matches how I first thought her would be like-
-
Weirdo - A person whose behavior is strange or eccentric. It could also mean unconventional. Or a psychopath or somebody just not normal and unusual. Sometimes used to describe perverts in slang
Wheaton - From the wheat town. Made of wheat. Man of wheat. Wheaton is scarecrow man confirmed /jkjk
Tobin - God is good. Otherwise, the name is usually connected to Saint Aubin. But there is several versions of the name in multiple other languages/cultures
Simple boi I guess. But scarecrow symbolism, it is like a natural boogeyman, a monster. But it is also a prop to scare of birds, maybe other tributes (Evelyn’s name also means bird so Wheaton just made her go away like the scarecrow he is)
-
Carmen - Short form of the name, Maria del Carmen, or ‘Mary of Caramel’, which is a reference to the Holy Land. And in the Bible it means garden, orchard, and vineyard. It also means song. And it can be a reference to the Roman Goddess Carmenta. And it represents a strong, compassionate, and natural woman
Cortez - Courteous or polite. The name could also mean someone who lived as/near the court of a king or sovereign
I think her name was mostly chosen because of the queen Carmen Sandiego to be honest. But Carmen is a strong, compassionate, natural woman, she an icon for real. And I think she is polite, to a degree, like at least not an asshole
-
Taurus - Is a zodiac sign that represents a bull. The most prevalent personality traits on them that were shown on google were, being intelligent, dependable, hardworking, dedicated, stubborn, patient, loyal, sensual, and devoted. Apparently they don’t sweat the small stuff, so they are calming and nice to be around. They are mentally strong and very consistent. There is so much on a zodiac sign so
not gonna say it all sorry
Rivera - Name originates from the word riverbank. Not many definitions, but it is a popular Spanish last name
Taurus is a taurus! (He’s born on the 8th of May right? Or was that Katniss’ bday?) Anyways the zodiac sign fits him (there’s probably traits of other zodiac signs that can relate to him too though) And it’s honestly just a mine of character traits positive and negative and miscellaneous when being named after a zodiac
-
Robin - A small bird. The robin symbolizes good luck, happiness, rebirth, renewal, growth, and new beginnings. Fun facts about robins!: They are adaptable, with a variety of nest types, such as holes, hollows, recesses, and even boxes. They are very territorial, to the point where their breast is to indicate territorial messages, they defend their territory through the year, and they can resort to killing other birds aggressively (depending on the bird)
Maverick - Unconventional and independent. One who shuns custom, a lone wolf, somebody who blazes their own trail, someone who avoids conformity
Well it would be interesting if her character makes a base in some territory and ends up killing somebody defending it. And I chose the last name Maverick, due to it meaning independence and usually looking out for only oneself
-
Everest - Dweller on the Eure River. It also means high point, or summit. It also represents ‘the iconic nature of what it is to be a wonder’. Like the most notable climb known to man
Sinclaire - Comes from ‘Saint Claire’. It can mean pure or renowned, and light and clear. It also means one who prays
He a dweller. And is probably somebody who can walk for very long without complaining. And maybe religious or as least believing in something
-
Lilith - Meaning belonging to the night. It is a feminine name for demon, spirit, and sometimes evil. On google it says it also represents: ‘rebellion, sexual liberation, independence, mystery, empowerment, resilience, transformation and the pursuit of personal freedom’
Maloret - Ill-fortuned or with bad luck. A luckless and unfortunate person
Well, Lilith was mysterious, she belonged to the night I guess. I chose the last name maloret because she seems to have bad luck. Not really having an interesting reason as compared to the other tributes. Getting to the cornucopia and still unfortunately still failing and dying (kind of because of bad luck, wrong place, wrong person, wrong time)
-
Harrow - To plunder or ravish. To cause worry and upset. It is a farm implement used for surface tillage. It is dragged over plowed land to break up clods, remove weeds, and cover seed. Some synonyms of the word is agonizing, torture, harass, excruciating, smite, tease, and vex
Prairie - A plain of grassland without many trees. It also means meadows and pastures
He definitely caused worry and upset for his love. And he did die in torment or at the very least his dead body was mistreated
But I chose the last name Prairie because it also meant meadow. Most definitions said prairie meant a peaceful, calming land of nothing much but grass. So I guess he is resting peacefully waiting for his love in the meadow
Bonus!:
Marl - A loose or crumbly earth deposit. Also known as a kind of mixed soil. Sometimes fertilizer lands to help make it healthier. It is a mix of sand, silt, and clay. And it has rock forms, sedimentary
I chose this name as a first or last (or even middle name if you already had it chosen out) for Harrow’s lover. Because a harrow was used to till land/soil and help its growth of crops. Both help the soil and land in different ways, while still being different in their ways. A more man-made tool (like a richer tool like townies) and a natural help that can be used to help but with many properties and types (I dunno why I thought of the seam for this)
-
Sorry for taking so long again! Hope you enjoy reading this! And I hope you enjoy the last names :)

The scenes with Zoe and Andre get less wholesome every time I view them. Now I’m not sure Zoe has the maturity to help Chloe even if she meant what she said in Queen Banana, because I’m starting to doubt Zoe even has the maturity to understand the role Andre played in Chloe’s development.
It'd be an interesting way to play that whole mess, if it was in good writing hands.
Let S6 be Zoe discovering how much of a junk parent Andre is, how he is actually self centered and wants a trophy child more than to be a parent.
I don't expect it to happen though.
