something about how tommy is able to defuse alfie's aggression on various occasions when he gets all wound up and angry (russian vault scene my beloved). whereas i would think if the roles are reversed, the absolute best alfie could offer is a combination of uncertainty and arousal.

So i just finshed all of Peaky Blinders. And the fact the uncle Charlie doesn't get enough love in thos fandom is bullshit. Like we get conformation this man was the closest thing the Shelby's had to a proper father figure. And looking at all the little scenes where he's acting like their dad and no one points it out?

Like everyone's favorite scene is the "no fucking fighting" bit but seconds before that Thomas tells Uncle Charlie to "stop spin yards about me" Charlie responds "i was only trying to sell yah to them Tom" he's honestly trying to make Thomas look like a decent man. Thats so sweet.

There are absolutely more scenes but , awww Uncle Charlie being all like "my nephew? Yeah hes the best person. the kindest most caring individual, you wouldn't believe it"

I hate how fandom has become "if you haven't created anything in this very specific time frame after the release of the show/movie, everyone will have moved on"

And call me old fashioned, but that's just not me. I sometimes take ages to create and publish. And I will love a show or movie for such a long time (years, babes, years) that I just can't relate to the fast consumerism that's going on.

Because, let's be real, it can get really lonely in a fandom if most have simply moved on to the next shiny thing. Is what's created less worth, just because it was created outside the hype? Why is it such a taboo for this new fandom generation to love an old or "late" fic or art?

It's so tiring and I'm too old for the 30-seconds-hype-tiktok-shit. Just tired. So, so tired.

just finished 'lived a lie' and holy shit, i wasn't expecting to be utterly beside myself with heartbreak but here we are! thank you so much for writing something so beautiful but also oh my god what have you done

Oh god, I always feel the need to apologise when I receive a message like this (even if I'm kind of delighted inside!) I mean what's the point in reading if not to lose ourselves and feel something??

I really do appreciate every reader, but those that take the time to send a comment?? To recognise the hours of agony that went into writing that fic?? You definitely get some extra love. Thank you. (And I don't know what I've done but, as I've said before, I did not escape that fic unscathed. At all.)

Wow, what an amazing comment, thank you!! As to how I learned to write ... by writing fanfic? And reading far too many novels?? And I still have SO MUCH to learn. A quick review of my A03 account tells me that I have been writing for precisely 4 years and 2.5 months. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It feels, at once, a long time and no time at all.

For some reason it's getting harder and my muse isn't playing ball and I have too much horrid IRL stuff to deal with. But please know that your comment has made my week. So thank you 💕

I just need to inform you that Live a Lie ruined my life and had me crying for days not to mention I can’t listen to a sad love song without thinking of them 😭😭😭😭

Oh dear. Sorry!? I can only recommend hot chocolate and some more Tommy/Alfie fic.

Alternatively just lean into it and wallow under a duvet whilst thinking of those beautiful men.

If it's any consolation, I'm still not over it.

Oh heeeey minty! Our convos of late have gotten me back into the t/a jam, as you know. But as you may not know, they also inevitably led to me rereading To Live a Lie (hot angsty damn!). I find myself wondering: when Alfie fucked that rent boy in “Guilt” were you planning on that coming back around to eventually be the undoing of Tommy and Alfie’s relationship in the end chapters, or was that just a happy (read: unhappy) coincidence?? I’m always so curious to know what level of planning goes into my fav works versus events unfolding as you write.

I'm so sorry to answer this so late, but I'm so happy to have got you back on the tommy/alfie wagon!! Live a Lie was not planned out at all! So no, I had no idea that rent boy would come back to haunt them. By the time I got to Revelations, I knew that the Shelby family involvement was going to cause major issues. But I only found that through writing it, it was just where the characters took me.

With my Mistakes fic I had more of an outline from the outset. Although it was pretty loose. I struggle with endings and agonise way too much (case in point Stargazing, final chapter still being messed with now!!)
