look back month challenge, day 2: what is your oldest toy (chronologically)?

this is a little bit of a guess, but probably nori, who is my only resin bjd. as far as i can tell, he is a dream of doll ivan/kirill, released in 2006. i bought him at a charity shop for 35�� about two years ago, so i don't have much info about his past, but his vibe is definitely that of an old doll somebody outgrew years ago & that ended up donated to the shop and sold at the price range of a mass produced porcelain doll.

i didn't think to take a proper before picture, but i do have this one a friend sent when he first found the doll. the styling was wonderfully 2000s, and i wanted to give him a similarly classic bjd aesthetic -> went for a dragon boy. i dyed him & made all the mods, clothes and accessories. the little dragon may also be a contender for my oldest toy; it's customized from an unidentified thrift store find that seemed quite old.

A Roman doll with moveable joints and accessories was found in the sarcophagus of Crepereia Tryphaena, an unmarried 20-year-old woman. The sarcophagus is dated to the late 100s (2nd c. AD) making the ivory “Crepereia Doll” nearly two thousand years old.

I collect porcelain figurines (from many different manufacturers/sets) and the way I choose to display them is by putting together the ones I can picture having gay sex

I can’t draw very well and hated that I couldn’t draw my DnD character, a tabaxi cleric named Merry Thing, but then I remembered I’m pretty good with a needle and thread so I made her

Dolls’ house made by Frans and Christina Bosdyk in Picton, New South Wales, 1997-2006. It is is heavily influenced by traditional 17th century Dutch dolls houses and is made to 1/10-1/12 scale, with 20 rooms and a working electrical system. The style of the building and rooms span a period from late nineteenth century to the 1950s and portrays aspects of Dutch and Australian life from that time (via).

and by reverse commission i mean i went to them like "hey can i make a doll of alexei? and also i would like to make him into a sexy purple demon," and then did just that.

another mermaid, this time a commission for a friend. they wanted a pared-down golden faceup so they could figure out the accent colors from there, and long black hair. the haori was meant for a different project, but i ended up throwing it in with this doll since it fit so well.

i love robots, and making robots, but painting them is an absolute pain. this little guy has been waiting in desk purgatory for months.

not sure what possessed me to fully articulate the back claws, but it was extremely handy while photoshooting because i could use them to grab the backdrop & balance her. the hair situation is that i started photoshooting her bald, went "no, needs more attitude" and added some craft foam hair on the go. might refine it in the future. it might also make her a bit mettaton-coded, which was not the intention.

the spear tip is from some kind of a cursed willy wonka easter egg. a friend brought one for all of us when we had dnd last easter, and everyone donated their toys to me for the reason of Funky Shapes. dm privilege is a bunch of silly plastic bits.

also, all the pink parts of the doll glow in the dark!

my take on @posnakkel's selkie oc whom i love very much. his seal skin has been Through A Lot and is missing parts, so he got this ragged emo look.

[my tinfoil-as-water experiment did not work quite as well as i had hoped, but gets the thought across. i'll keep fiddling with it next time i need water for photos.]

an additional bug for the collection!

i had printed this and was halfway through painting before i realized i'm not really buzzing with excitement about the color scheme. a black/red/grey version might have more of the vibe i'm looking for, and i will see about printing one later. for now, a first version sneak peek.
