Tyler knew that this was for one night only so he wanted it to be as special as possible. Jamie would have her own proms but he wanted this one to be memorable for her. Magical. He knew how much she’d like dressing up like a princess, like she was straight out of the ‘Enchanted’ album (Taylor and the iconic Amy Adams movie). He could swallow his feelings, he could forget about his laundry list of worries for tonight. They were going to have fun. A wide grin spread across his face when she giggled, feeling himself blush at her compliment and the not-so-subtle ‘Awww!’ from the audience. Despite everything, Tyler still felt at home with the McArthurs. It was his favourite place in the world. “Thank you,” he said, laughing as he glanced at the other room where the Belhaven women were hiding- “You’re right about that, not that I wouldn’t be ready for a photoshoot. I’ve been working on my poses.” He waggled his eyebrows comically before nodding his head a little. Alright, here we go. “Oh! Hold on, before we go-,” he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the corsage his mom had helped him pick (x). Tyler fiddled with the plastic covering before managing to get it open, offering a sheepish look as he reached out for her wrist, planning on tying it for her. He wound up taking her hand though, spinning her around with a nervous laugh but he was happy. He was excited for tonight. Who thought Tyler Manning would be going to prom? “Hope you’ve got your running shoes.”

Jamie giggled again, trying to ignore the noises from her family. He was so perfect. “Good to know. We’ll have to hunt down the photographers at prom so that doesn’t go to waste.” A small gasp escaped her when Tyler presented her with the corsage. It matched her dress. Her eyes shifted to her mom and aunt as they peaked around the corner. Had they told him what she was wearing? Her grin widened as her eyes returned to Tyler then dropping to the corsage again. She lifted her hand towards him and tried her best not to squeal as he secured the roses to her wrist. “It’s beautiful, Tyler. Thank you.” She could have kissed him right there, but gosh, not in front of her mom. Thankfully, Tyler spun her around, fully making her feel like a princess, and at the end of the spin she pulled him into a hug. “Let’s go.” She laughed again, pulling him towards the door by the hand.

“Oh wow. Okay.” Jamie let herself be pulled from another conversation and smiled for the photo, trying not to let Faye’s hair get stuck on her lip gloss. At this point, Jamie was sure that everyone had heard about Jesse and Faye’s argument outside of prom, but from all the different versions she had heard, she was sure the facts were a bit jumbled. One thing she was sure of though, was that he couldn’t possibly have been stealing her ballots. What the hell happened that night she slept over? “Hey Faye! You look like you’re having a good time!”

Faye Montgomery had probably been tipsy 0.5 times in her life which was perfectly fine, thank you. A glass of champagne at a gala, a sip from a questionable flask at cheer camp. She turned her nose up at warm beer from the likes of Steven Beaumont but tonight was different. Tonight… Well, it had all but been the end of the world, hadn’t it? Crown? Gone. Jesse? Gone. Her besties were nowhere to be found so here she was, verging, she’d say, on drunk. How ridiculous.

“Heeeeey! Take a picture with me. Ohmygosh, cute. You should be a model or something, love that.”

Jamie took a deep breath as she looked at herself in the mirror, making an attempt at calming her nerves. Was this really happening? Was she really going to prom? And with Tyler Manning? She hadn’t expected her life to peak at fifteen, but it could only be downhill from here. Fixing a few loose strands of hair, Jamie listened for Jesse’s car to pull out of the driveway, knowing that Tyler would be there to pick her up soon after. They had agreed that there couldn’t be anything more between them than that kiss- for Jesse’s benefit- but after his behaviour lately, it seemed that neither of them cared to protect his feelings anymore. Still though, being sneaky was a necessity so they didn’t get stopped on the lawn.

Aunt Harper and her mom were already gushing at Tyler walking up to the front door, so Jamie had plenty of notice before he entered the house. Taking yet another steadying breath, she began decending the staircase, trying to remember to keep breathing when she saw Tyler standing at the bottom. This was like a movie... Jamie could help but smile shyly when he complimented her and she made an attempt at giving him one back. “Thank you... I- You-...” She giggled nervously, “You look very handome, Tyler.” This moment could only have been more perfect if she couldn’t hear her mom’s ‘Awww!’ from the next room. “We should probably run before we’re stuck here all night taking photos.”

Tyler and Jamie… Talk about your tragic timing, right? He’d be lying if he said that he didn’t still think about her. Think about dancing with her, think about holding her hand, think about kissing her. But they’d agreed (in so many stumbled words) that they couldn’t, they just couldn’t. Things were too complicated and Jesse— They both cared about him enough to know that they couldn’t jeopardize their relationship with him like that. So Tyler smiled and she smiled, and they went on with their lives. Until tonight.

Did Tyler regret opening his big mouth in front of Greg Porter two years ago? Of course he did but after what he’d found out, he’d really needed him to just be his best friend again. And he hadn’t. So… Screw it. Chances were they’d wake up tomorrow and have to continue tip toeing around each other for his sake still but tonight was different. Tonight Tyler didn’t care about all the reasons that they couldn’t dance or hold hands, or whatever else. Sure, he’d waited until Jesse had one hundred per cent tore out of the driveway in his car before coming over but still. Tonight wasn’t about Jesse. It was about—

“Hey. Wow. Jamie, you—,” he paused, grinning, “You look beautiful.”

It was difficult to find a moment of peace in the McArthur household which was why she’d only creeped in to pick up some extra and clean things for Stella. As the best baby sis that she’d ever had, Harper was content to give Ethan the stink eye without hesitation should he catch her. After all, she didn’t make the rules and they weren’t talking right now. Stifling a sigh, Harper stuffed a sweater into her tote before becoming slightly distracted by her phone. Specifically, she was Googling ’what hell awaits in my first trimester of pregnancy’ which was why she hadn’t noticed Jamie come into the room and which was why she hadn’t locked the screen quick enough and instead had to yell-

Jamie hadn’t known Harper was coming over, so obviously it was a great surprise for her. Honestly, she was going crazy in this house; she loved her dad and her brothers, but she missed her mom. She missed Harper coming over all the time. She hadn’t intended on sneaking up behind her, but Jamie had always been very light-footed- even before her shifter abilities had triggered. “Whatcha doing?” Harper’s yelling immediately followed and Jamie screamed, jumping back from her stance at her shoulder. “You-... What?” Her laugh filled the room as her brain tried to process what just happened. “You’re being so suspicious. Are you-...? Were you looking at a pregnancy website?”
