Yeah idk if Scott would rape Pearl but the thing you said abt seeing consent as more maleable with men rings true to me. And not even just with Scott, this is just a thing with mcyt in general (Sausage I will never forgive you for the maid scene in SOS).

oh, no, i didnt think you were saying that at all! i just wanted to say how i see it since there was the discussion of characters being rapists vs not. it is pretty divorced from the series in regards to being "obviously this wouldnt ACTUALLY happen" but its so intriguing to me considering theres so much else that DOES happen in the life series. kidnapping, which completely removing someone else's anatomy in another way? absolutely something thats talked about. murder is the theme of the games! suicide isnt out of the question either. its just that rape itself is too taboo, but it intrigues me to be at a point of "but what if there wasnt the societal taboo to talk about this subject?"

like, what WOULD make scott a rapist? at what point would he go that final step, considering he talks about needing to control pearl, kidnap her, gaslights her regularly? Intriguing.

Nodding nodding and don't worry I don't think you're coming off as argumentative at all this is the stuff I really like pulling apart so you're all good I genuinely love this sort of discussion.

This is very very reminiscent of alot of the conversation on my sideblog where I post a lot about Scott as an abuser and how it's considered "too real" despite the series touching on a lot of themes that are just as dark or realistic.

if we're like. going full on with how I usually approach things with Scott specifically there are layers to my thought process. I wrote a whole thing about Scott's habit of glorifying femininity and women once and following that attitude and his good person complex I've always imagined him as being distinctly disgusted by the thought of rape, especially men raping women. It simply goes against his worldview. (<-- more thoughts regarding this and how it can translate into him being relatively more lax about mens consent, see: his reaction to how Jimmy is treated) (<-- which is fun because yknow. happens irl)

But then Pearl throws a wrench in things and suddenly he's faced with fearing becoming what he hates, he can't admit these feelings because they're a step in the direction of admitting he resembles what he hates (in his mind) and that, ironically, in conjunction with the rest of his issues, makes him way more monstrous about Pearl than he would've been if he had just been more accepting of how he feels about her. I joked about it but I really do think WL Scott is like. distinctly Worse about this than he was before, especially with that Fucking "whether you want it or not" line.

Anyway I don't think he's. quite dehumanized Pearl enough in his head to rape her but I do think he's very capable of getting there. All of them are actually but Scott especially could go down that slope very fast I think.
