Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a disease in the digestive tract that causes inflammation and ulcer. It affects the colon and rectum, causing them to become inflamed. • Heredity – it’s also believed that UC is something that may run in the family’s medical history.
Types of Ulcerative Colitis
• Ulcerative proctitis is a mild form of UC. The inflammation is closest to the anus, so bleeding may occur in the rectum.
• Proctosigmoiditis affects the rectum and the part that connects the rectum to the large intestines called the sigmoid colon, which causes damage and irritation to the rectum.
• Left-sided colitis, also called distal ulcerative colitis, mainly affects the left side of the colon. Inflammation happens from the rectum to the splenic flexure which is on the left side of the abdomen.
• Pancolitis is the inflammation of the entire colon, making it inflamed.
Ulcerative Colitis Treatment
• Surgery – Removal of the colon and lining of the rectum by surgery. After surgery, regular bowel movement is expected.
• Diet – A change of diet is necessary, although cases may differ for each person. There are, however, certain foods that will have to either go or be added to your diet.
Stay away from:
• Alcohol • Caffeine • Dairy products • Dried beans • High in Fiber
Make sure you consume:
• Cooked vegetables • Lean meat • Fish • Eggs
Ketogenic Diet
The ketogenic diet, more commonly known as Keto Diet, consists of high fats, moderate proteins, and very low carbohydrates. Because your body will have fewer carbohydrates to store, the source of energy will now come from fats. In a state called ketosis, the body will burn fat to make ketones, which are considered an alternate body fuel.

• Supports weight reduction due to reduced appetite. The diet itself will fill you up and may curb your hormones that stimulate hunger. Consuming low carbohydrates helps in reducing the excess visceral fats that are harmful to the abdominal cavity.
• Helps in increasing the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), more commonly known as good cholesterol.
• Helps in reducing blood sugar.
• Helps in lowering blood pressure, as having high blood pressure may trigger the symptoms of ulcerative colitis.
Types of Ketogenic Diets
• Standard Ketogenic Diet (SKD) – the meal plan must approximately contain 10% low carb, 20% moderate protein, and 70% high-fat diet.
• Cyclical Ketogenic Diet (CKD) – the diet plan follows a period of 5 ketogenic days and two high carbohydrate days.
• Targeted Ketogenic Diet (TRD) – a regular keto diet that allows the intake of carbohydrates during the time of workout or exercise.
• High Protein – the diet consists of 35% protein, 5% carbohydrates, and 60% fats.
