I kinda wonder how much research Matthew Mercer did on archeology and the history of the field. Fun fact for everyone, I am currently studying archeology and it's kinda a thing I think about a lot. When Matt talks about Aeor it reminds me a lot of Pompeii. So Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabae are the three main cities affected by the 79 CE Eruption of Vesuvius. Herculaneum specifically, much like Aeor was completely submerged. It was found when people tried to dig a well and found the city. The excavations were done in a series of tunnels and it all gives me Aeor vibes. Another thing that gives me Aeor vibes is the archeological arms race. While Herculaneum and Pompeii didn't have weapons capable of killing gods, many different people and governments wanted control of the cities. There was an air of exclusivity and everyone was fighting over sites, information, and artifacts. It reminds me of how many people want to discover Aeors information first.
Also Vess Derogna is a bad archeologist and I hate her. "You can keep any items not of historical significance" BITCH ITS AN ANCIENT CITY EVERYTHING IS OF ARCHEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE. I DON'T CARE IF ALL THEY FIND IS SOMEONES LEFT SLIPPER YOU BETTER MAKE SURE ITS HANDLED APPROPRIATELY AND ARCHIVED. IM GLAD SHE GETS MURDERED .

The phrase "to put [someone] through the wringer" is, of course, referring to a laundry wringer, a formerly popular but now little-used home appliance that looks like this:
It's easy to understand why being put through one would be an ordeal!
So here's the question I have: for the folks who just found out from this post what a laundry wringer is, and have been spelling it "through the ringer" all this time, what were you picturing when you said "ringer"?

Republican flex:
I could name hundreds of Republicans who have affairs, have assaulted women, or sex traffic with underage girls, but I won't.

Last night I had a dream I woke up to find that my house had been turned into a Smart House with every wall being a digital screen including the roof so I could see it even laying on bed and the Siri voice said “Don’t worry. You are perfectly safe in your Apple Smart Home™️” knowing I have a BIG phobia of intruders especially at night and it continued with “Let’s explore the neighborhood from the comfort of your home” so it opened google maps and accidentally zoomed past a shitty jpeg of the girl from The Ring standing outside my house and it said “ignore that”. woke up laughing

Been catching up with a "therapist plays disco elysium" series I used to watch a few months ago (I'm critical of therapy as an institution but the guy's background gives him some legitimately fascinating insights into the way certain characters are written, and I love that he's like the exact opposite of a "the curtains are just blue" guy, if something catches his interest he'll spend 50 minutes analysing a single conversation). And anyway I love how the game has taken him from
Early episodes: Look I just don't want to engage with the politics, okay? I know this game has a lot to say from the politics angle but I'm just interested in the psychology angle
Episode 61: "Fuck it! I'm just going to say it, okay? Billionaires aren't people"

Yes, this is my favourite pair of shoes, and this is my identical-but-never-worn pair of backup shoes which I keep by the door in case something happens to the first pair of shoes. In twenty years this precaution has not once proven to be warranted, but what if.
