to be honest I think working on a sewing machine strains my eyes as much as being on a computer does. However, I am incentivized to remain alert and focused by keeping my fingers within stabbing distance of a needle making 60 stitches per minutes.

So tonight may have wiped me out, but @selenite0 did get a good picture of my quilt in progress. I got the v-shape that is the bottom edge halfway attached to the main hexagon.

Four out of sixteen of these blocks are now done! The final quilt will also involve some complicated sashing between the blocks, but it looks good even without it.

I had wanted to finish it for Christmas, but that is clearly not happening since I put it away all summer and didn’t touch it. That is fine. I will give it to my brother next Christmas.

Quilt top done!

Last night I finished the quilt top for the dog blanket I'm making. It's one thing to *know* that you're going to lose 1/2" for every seam, and another to look at it all stitched up and think, "Where did it all GO?" Still, our dogs are small & they should both fit under it comfortably. Approximately 40" x 48".

Current plan is to use a light- to mid-weight fusible interfacing on the back to give it some stability, then quilt it to some flannel I got off the remnant rack (hardly a remnant, though; 58" wide by 60" tall). I'll need to make some binding for it, if I can find a decent piece of yardage in the stash bins. My tendency to buy fat quarters might make that a problem.

The largest quilt I’ve ever made. It’s just over a yard by a yard. It’s a gift for one of my family members. I hand quilted it with embroidery thread. My machine got so mad at me when I was sewing this together. The dragon pattern is inspired by an image I found on Pinterest.

Echoes of the Ocean by Chitra Mandanna, 142cm tall by 128cm wide

Why I like it: apart from just being an insane show of technical skill in the realm of quilting, this quilt is captivating in person. There is something crammed into every corner, and the colours, while starkly bold, work together so well. The negative space in the background where the fabric has been cut away brings to mind comic book panels, further bringing a narrative quality.

This one was a Judges' Pick.
