Transcontinental railroads what live on
I have learned that history really still lives on today. There are many buildings, parks, railroads, and other places that have a deeper meaning than one may think. I also learned how evil people can be through racism. Racism is really the devil blinding the soul and consciousness. Through these harsh conditions, one thing that can be gained is knowledge and empathy through time.

history
-History is a lesson.
-History is an achievement.
-History is motivation.
-History is whatever you want it to be.
-History is a necessity.
-My sentences say how history can help us learn what to avoid and what to do. History can motivate us to be better than it eas before or to be how it was before. History shows us what can and what has been achieved. We need history to know our roots, our mistakes, our motivation, and our plan for the future. Anything can be your history, it is what you make of it.

Day of Remembrance
Attending the Day of Remembrance made me feel very empowered. I felt that I can really make an impact and make a difference in a big way. It reminded me that everyone counts, and everyone is a big portion of the bigger picture. That day made me want to appreciate and get more involved in my culture. That day made me realize the hardships Asian Americans went through for our generation now. I am now forever grateful for the people that came before me. My message that I wrote to the 19 students, is to say that what you get from life and your hardships determines if you are successful or not. I would probably think that they feel as if they failed since they didn't receive the education and degree that they wanted, but that is wrong. That is why I said what I said.

war
Experiences my extended family had with war was with World War Two. My granparents all remember how scary it was during those times. My grandma's house was even taken over by Japanese soldiers. They came in and said that they have to cater to them and let them stay in their house and entertain them. So they did, and my grandma and her sister had to sing songs for them all day. Ever since that, my grandma would always say in that situation and during those times she was always afraid. But she never experienced any long term affects. She did not have a ptsd or was afraid of anything. What my grandma always tells me though, is to make sure that you are nice to everyone. If you are mean to someone it can hurt than more than you think. She said that if everyone can just learn how to do that, then there will be world peace. So that's what she taught her children and her grandchildren to do. My takeaways from this exercise is that people go through so much in their lifetime. You may not even know it or realize it, but we are all living through things that would be spoken about over time. People are gonna question what he did now like how we question things that happened before in history.

Filipino DJ’ing
The work of the Filipino Mobile DJ Scene represents innovative strategies to create culture and build community by accepting everyone. The competitions grew because of the competitiveness, but also because everyone was accepted. It seemed that no matter who were, you were allowed to compete. There were no requirements to compete. That's what lead to the growth and the building of the community. Everyone had one thing in common, and that was the love of music. That community helped people stay out of trouble and build friendships and connections that would last forever. Just by finding one thing that everyone can connect to, it builds lasting connections.

Always Be My Maybe
In the movie Always Be My Maybe, there was one main topic that really stood out to me. That topic was fighting fear. Fear can really change a person and how they feel and see everything. It closes and locks the door of opportunity and greater things. In the beginning, the movie shows that the answers to what you seek are right in front of you. When Marcus and Sasha grew up together, they were always the answer to each other’s problems. When Sasha was lonely because of her parents never really being home, Marcus would invite her for dinner. The scene when Marcus’ mom passed, Sasha comforted him by asking him to eat out. Your community and roots are what make you you and what makes you complete. The history that goes behind this, is that in the beginning Sasha’s parents were always out late working. Hearing the message her mom left her, she had a very strong accent. What I got from that is that her parents might have been the first people to migrate to America. That means Sasha’s parents had to work their asses off to provide and support. Although, the fact that her parents were never there for her, still was not okay. As Sasha grew up, she began to lose sight of her roots and tried to seek happiness in things that were not for her. Just because she had money, a stable business, and was with someone who was a good business partner not lover, she thought that her life was complete and that it could not get any better. Sasha was wrong, that asian stereotype of  being the most successful in your division does not equal fulfillment and happiness. For Marcus it was the total opposite though, he stood by what he had. He did not want anything more or less. He believed he had everything he needed, but his quality of living just was not it. He was smoking everyday, had a busted ass car, his room was a mess, and his band plateaued. Going back to the theme of fear, I believe that what Sasha and Marcus had in common, was that they refused to seek change and true fulfillment. They believed they had everything they needed already, even though deep down they knew things are not going the way they wanted them to, they were never really happy. That fear blinded themselves from seeing that the answers were right in front of them. Stick with your roots and you’ll be happier. Like the scene at that chinese restaurant they went to where Sasha believed that place sucked because that’s how she wanted to remember it. Well Marcus reminded her that it was very good, traditional food. Your roots should not be neglected. When Marcus learned Cantonese, he got some sort of benefits for it. What I personally learned from this is that your mind can either be your biggest enemy or your strongest ally. I personally really needed to realize this right now or have this message hit me, because through this whole quarantine thing, I have begun to overthink more. Not being able to go out and distract myself from my problems have really forced me to embrace it and learn to deal with it.

New Orleans versailles
I watched the versailles documentary, and I loved it. I could not stop watching it! The purpose of the clip was to show how strong and powerful a group of people can be. When something is not right, we have to fight for the good and stand up. The problem that the people in the video were addressing, was the idea of being not represented and over looked. There were a lot of main concepts that were point out in this documentary, the two concepts that really stood out to me was that they young have to begin to lead the elderly and to carry on the traditions. The other one was that our words are valid and people should never be looked down upon, so when discriminating things like that happen, we must all fight together for what is right. This documentary connects to the expeirences of children, families, and communities, because it shows that when all these aspects come together, they are one strong army. They can tackle any problem that is in their way together. When they see the value within themselves, they are unstoppable together. This reading connects to my own family because the part where the youth have to now carry the traditions and pride of the elders is something I myself am going through and so is everyone in my family that are around my age or younger. As time goes on that responsibility grows more and more. I am now learning more of my culture and the history behind it, so it does not die.

I REALLY loved this video. What shocked me was that I never was exposed to that book or no one has talked about it that I know. It seemed like a very popular book, but I guess my people and I were out of the loop lol. I feel that not only Asian Americans should be shown in popular culture, but many types of people should be included. This will promote that everyone and anyone can be anything they want. There are no requirements to be a certain type of person or to like certain things. This will make everyone on an equal level, and shut down some stereotypical ideas about certain races or people. Honestly, I can’t really think of a popular Asian American that would have shaped my identity. I was never exposed to any characters like that when I was younger. If I were to think of an Asian American that shaped me but was not popular, it would be my school teachers. I had multiple Asian American teachers, and they were always hella dope. I wanted to give off that hyphy vibe, but also be able to show that I am still a hard working person with big goals.

Trump comment
I get it, the virus did originate from China. But during sensitive times, he should not be calling it the Chinese Virus. Especially if you are president and if your words are spread to millions of people, WATCH WHAT YOU SAY. There's just so much misunderstanding that can come from that phrase. I watched this other video where he says that China is blaming the Americans for bringing it into their country and that Trump can call the virus that name because of that. So one of the main reasons as to why he is calling it the Chinese Virus is because he is butt hurt that China is blaming America. It's such a little ass kid move. A lot of people are saying that people are just being sensitive and just let him say it because his reasoning that it came from China is true, but they don't even know the other reason why he is saying what he is saying and that shows his true intentions. People don't understand that if there were no racism going on, that name would be okay, but there are so many racist circumstances that create space for negative implications in things like that phrase. Basically, he needs to watch what he says and so does everyone else PERIOD

This video made me very aggravated. It is crazy how these facts are not taught in school! I should have learned this in highschool or even middle school. These things are so important to be taught, because a lot of asian americans now forget about their culture and what their people have been through that they have become too unappreciative of their history. Knowing these things are important not only so it’ll not repeat itself, but so us asian americans can have a sense of pride and empowerment. Learning about events like this makes me realize how strong my predecessors were!
It became important for non-Chinese asians to join, because it is important for EVERYONE to stand up when someone or a group of people is getting pushed down! It is important to build that strength and standard that if anyone in their community gets picked on, they will regret doing that! Build that sense of community that everyone wants to be a part of. I feel like that’s how our generation now has shifted to a more opening mindset, because it’s the trend! You have people switching ideologies just so they don’t get left out.
