I like how he was so sad that Lupin was gonna die via Microwave Execution that he started crying and banging his head against the wall, and then was so obviously relieved and joyful when he heard that Lupin had escaped.

My headcanon design for an older Inspector Yata that has assumed Zenigata's role of 'Lupin catcher'. He wears Zeni's old tattered trench coat and is trying his best to match the larger than life persona that his mentor extruded so easily.

I imagine the decision wouldn't be by anyone's choice - eventually old age comes for Pops and the only way to get the fool to semi-retire is for Yata to take his place. Lupin is furious about this. Zeni begrudgingly imparts his wisdom and watches from the sidelines.

I imagine Lupin retiring a year or two later, instead focusing his energy on training up a protégé of his own after realising Yata was starting to run rings around him and it just wasn't the same without Pops (the rest of the gang had happily retired many years before - Lupin was just too proud to join them)

I just finished Green vs. Red and I really love that no matter how different they make Zenigata, no matter if they want him to be the comic relief butt of the joke character or is seriously connected to the story

He can't help but cry like this when Lupin is alive after being mistaken as dead
