I have OCD and with that comes quasi-hallucinations, and I grew up watching a ton of horror films so some of the worst of mine are the standard white skin/black hair demon girl type shit.
However, because a lot of them are based on horror film I have found comfort in doing things that “go against” horror films and being like “see? This could never happen.”
(It’s irrational. I know that. But shut up. This is how I cope.)
For example: I started hearing garbled whispering from beneath my table, so I started playing the muppets sound track. Because they would never play Movin’ Right Along when the protagonist is about to get attacked. That won’t happen. Disney, who owns the muppets, wouldn’t give them the rights.
And it fucking worked.

because I haven't seen a whole heap of decent information about this... I thought I'd do a beginner's guide to dissociation
disorders that can cause dissociation include:
DID
OSDD
PTSD
depression
OCD
BPD
DPDR
anxiety
eating disorders
some people also experience dissociation due to chronic pain
being dissociated can feel like, but is not limited to:
feeling disconnected from the world
feeling "blurry", "buzzy", "foggy", or "out of it"
not feeling any emotions
not feeling any physical pain
not remembering whole periods of time
feeling like you're floating outside of your body
your brain constantly going in and out of focus
dissociation is generally broken down into two categories:
derealisation: the feeling that the world around you is unreal, foggy, or just out of reach
depersonalisation: the feeling of being outside of yourself, or of not feeling real
I hope this is a helpful post, and that I've made people more aware of what dissociation actually is. if you have any follow-up questions, please feel free to ask!

your advocacy for people with low empathy means nothing if you only focus on those who have high sympathy and compassion and are good at helping people and throw low empathy people who struggle a lot with those things under the bus

I think any reasonable perspective on mental illness needs to include the fact that it can make you really fucking unpleasant to be around, and honestly it would be kind of odd if that wasn’t the case.

God, I can't tell you how much the "there's not enough enrichment in my enclosure" joke has helped my mental health. Because, for some reason I can't comprehend, pretending that I'm a zoo keeper caring for an animal (which is also me) just makes everything easier to comprehend. Like "Your head gets screwey when you're apartment is messy" just doesn't carry as much resonance as "The tiger becomes agitated when its enclosure is cluttered" because then I'll be like, no shit? The tiger? I've gotta keep things nice and clean for the tiger.

nobody seems to understand this, so. about tagging unreality.
i know it's all in good faith, but people really don't understand what unreality is. i try to clarify as much as i can what i mean when i say i post untagged unreality, as this is a psychological horror based blog run by a person who finds unreality comforting.
when something calls into question someone's perception of reality or reality itself, or if false information is given with the intent of inducing paranoia, that is unreality and/or paranoia inducing unreality.
when something states false information with humorous intent but does not call perception of reality, reality, or anyone's being into question, that is misinformation.
#unreality warnings benefit those who experience derealization, dissociation, and other types of psychotic symptoms.
#paranoia inducing warnings benefits the same people, but more specifically protects those who are prone to paranoid spirals and delusions.
#misinfo benefits people who cannot tell if a statement is a joke and can become distressed by that fact. this can lead to the same things that untagged unreality can.
mistagging unreality can have the opposite effect, or risk watering down the reason for these tws. you can tag all three together, or if you're unsure what tag to use, combining unreality and misinfo is a safe bet!
overall, if you don't have a psychotic disorder, it's really important to understand why each tag exists and what they mean. IT IS NOT A MISTAKE OR WRONG TO USE UNREALITY AS A BLANKET TAG. this post is to try and make sure people who do not experience psychosis understand why they have to tag things, and what situations prompt what tag.
that's all from me. lov and peas on planet eart ok? hvae a bnuuy gif

Making my separate post because I don't want to derail the other one but yk that post that says (rightly so) that even if you aren't able to sleep just lying down and not doing anything is more restful than doing something to pass the time? That's 100% a fact, and it has helped a bunch of people myself included, i think about that often.
However. As someone who has also been told this same thing in situations where it absolutely does not apply i do want to add some caveats.
If you are unable to sleep because you are experiencing a manic/hypomanic episode, don't force yourself to lie still, your restlessness might make matters worse, it will absolutely not be restful, and it is better to find something to do that will tire you out (for eg my therapist recommended jumping jacks)
If you are unable to sleep due to a sensory issues and find yourself barreling towards a meltdown, don't just lie there hoping things will get comfortable on their own. A meltdown is not restful. You do not deserve that suffering, change what you need to till you feel at ease enough to rest (even if not sleep)
If you are unable to sleep due to severe anxiety, don't just lie there and wait out the night. If you are that tense and high strung that is not restful. If a distraction is the only thing helping you with certain obsessions or paranoia then depriving yourself of that will not help. Take a while to practice your self help techniques till you feel unwound enough to rest (even if not sleep)
If you are unable to sleep due to some kind of psychosis, likewise allow yourself to work through it till you aren't as tense or distressed by it
If you are unable to sleep due to disturbing intrusive thoughts/impulses, allow yourself to find a release and talk yourself down to calmness, especially if you find the distress intensifying when your thoughts spiral out from a lack of something else to focus on
Lying down and doing nothing even when you can't sleep is good because it is restful. If it isn't restful this will not help. Remember that only you know best what is helping you. And please if someone says that just lying down won't help them then believe them and let them solve their issues the way they feel best. Maybe there is more at play than you know

psa to everyone on antipsychotics during the summertime
some antipsychotics can make you more susceptible to heat exhaustion because they make it so your body cannot regulate your body temperature correctly. I learned this the hard way last summer, I got really nasty heat exhaustion while on a high dose of quetiapine. so check if your meds react badly to heat, and if they do, please be sure to wear your sunscreen, have light cover ups on or with you, wear a hat, and stay hydrated! be safe
