Kento was a selfless man. 

Even back in his days sat behind a desk making money for those who had more than they could ever need, he had run himself ragged. Early mornings. Late nights. Overtime that never seemed to end. Targets that stretched whenever he managed to get within reaching distance. He gave a part of his soul by serving the wicked, until he saw the light. 

Returning to Jujutsu High didn’t make him any less selfless, if anything, it made him more so. However, this time he found that by giving more of himself than anyone asked, he could protect those he had grown fond of.  

They were just youngsters–Yuji, Megumi and Nobara–hardly old enough to be facing the dangers they were. It hadn’t been any different when he was their age, nor had it been for Haibara… and where had that gotten him? 

The past would not repeat itself. Kento would make sure of that. 

He would right the wrongs that he was powerless to do as a younger man. 

Then you hurtled into his life, barrelled straight into his heart and gave him a new reason to give every part of himself for another. The light of his life. The reason he woke with the sun. The person who kept away those lurking dark thoughts, the ones that had called to him in the dead of night and whispered doubts if he really was working for the right side… 

You saved him. Taught him patience and what true love meant. 

It was easy for him to love you; to smile and dance with you in the space of your kitchen, to lie awake on a Sunday morning simply to admire how the sun would streak your hair and to make unspoken vows that you would never hurt, not if he could prevent it. 

The stairs that led to Kento’s destiny did not seem so scary when he pictured you in his mind’s eye. He might be physically here, but in his heart–where it mattered most–he was with you… his home.  

He recalled the song that played the last time he had swayed with you in the warmth of your sunlit kitchen and smiled. Kento felt as if you were with him, the subtle fragrance of your perfume filled his nose, and the heat of your fingers soothed the raw edges of his fear as they entwined with his bloodied ones.
