Final Animation [unsettling reassurances]
[unsettling reassurances]
This is my final experimental animation, each clip is 6 seconds long.
I had a lot of fun doing this, I even think this animation could be improved with a further 5 more animations. I'm worried about the thoughts of others on the final animation, if I went too far on the grain effect or not. If I had more time I'd attempt to rein that in a little. Attempt to bring back some of the quality that was lost, however I'm glad I experimented with the effect in the end.

Side by Side comparrison
Here is a little side by side comparison of my final animation before and after the VHS effect. I think this shows off greatly the final effect. That a lot of effort went into making the final piece look as dated as it is.
Now I'll begin seeking out music and sound effects, hopefully to add to the liminality of the final animation.

Experiment Animation Version 3
This is pretty much final on how I want my actual experimental animation to look, I took the previous video into After Effects, whilst following a tutorial from the YouTube video below, it was always my goal to achieve a VHS found footage look for my animation. I think it worked out quite well, although It may have been too much grain.
I'm afraid that I might have sacrificed some of the detail for the illusion of realism.

Experiment Animation Version 2
Short rearrangement of the previous version, just to attempt to add a little narrative flow. Despite that not being necessary in the module outlines.
It felt like it made more sense for the door to open at the very start, to welcome the viewers in to this surreal telling.

Experiment Animation Version 1
This is the vanilla compilation of all the clips put together, in order that I completed them. I like how this has turned out, however I may try to rearrange each clip to build a little narrative flow.
One such idea would to begin with the door opening, as almost to invite the viewer in to the vast and empty world presented.

Shot 5 (Rendered)
Initially I wasn't too confident with this shot, it is definitely one of the more weaker of the five I've got so far. However it still blends itself to the general idea that I was aiming for.
What I do like is the texturing on the glass, and how the light from outside bounces off the walls naturally.

Shot 5 (Work in Progress) #2
Experimenting with the simple rig I created to make a simple movement for the figure. I wasn't too fussed in putting in so much detail as he will be obscured by the glass anyway.

Shot 5 (Work in Progress) #1
Tumblr media
Time to begin shot five.
I was initially not too confident with this shot, but due to time constraints set upon by me I decided to crack ahead and try and make it work.
Tumblr media
Panelling the ceiling, incorporating all the texturing techniques I've learned thus far
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trying to achieve a frosted glass effect. Still a ways to go.
Tumblr media
Taking the Glass square to Substance Painter to paint the edges, give them a wooden finish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Creating and rigging a simple figure to go behind the glass. It doesn't have to be detailed as I'm hoping the glass will blur out all of that.

Shot 4 (Rendered)
This was by far the simplest of shots, however I was caught up in the smallest details. This proved to be annoying over time.
Glad that I got over it. onto the fifth and final shot next.

Shot 4 (Work in Progress) #2
Tumblr media
The placing of each wire on the telephone poles was by far the most annoying and tedious part of any shot I've done. However I'm very thankful that it wasn't the case for the grass which was essentially completed with a click of a button.

Shot 4 (Work in Progress) #1
Tumblr media
My fourth shot is an attempt to break away from the industrial, and begin working on a more traditional view of the environmental concept
Tumblr media
Using the video I included previous, I began to model grass using the MASH network. This would prove to have huge benefits because it didn't bring down render times due to their being many polygons on screen. It was far from it in fact.

My goal was to create different colours of grass, one being more green to indicate its purity. While the other a darker green, to show how its been maimed overtime by man.
Tumblr media
Initially I had the idea for this sign to be a stop sign but instead I opted for a more positive approach, going with a move forward sign instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
modelling and texturing the telephone poles that will dominate the upper half of the shot.

Shot 3 (Rendered)
Once again I really like how this shot has turned out, the contrast of the white and grey with the door opening up into colour has worked out better than I'd imagined.
It reminds me a lot of this scene from The Wizard of Oz

Shot 3 (Work in Progress) #3
Compilation video showing the experimentation that went into the third shot, I liked the outcome of the dolly zoom. It really adds to the uneasiness of the final scene. Also breaks away from the more handheld type shots of the previous clips.

Shot 3 (Work in Progress) #2

These are some of my favourite screengrabs from my work in progress, it is interesting to see how the lighting changes the closer I brought the camera to the door.

Shot 3 (Work in Progress) #1
Tumblr media
This shot will be a shot of a office hallway, with an exit clear at the end. However the camera will be in dolly zoom, to give the effect of the exit getting further away.
Tumblr media
Ensuring that the hallway appears far away in the camera.

Example of texture work, I am starting to get the hang of texturing although the process is very tedious.
Tumblr media
Using Substance Painter as an alternative way of texturing, I began texturing one wall in hopes to duplicate it and save time.

Texturing in Photoshop. The landscape at the end of the hallway
Tumblr media
Ensuring all my lights are correct enough to give the illusion of depth.
