This message is for everybody, though I’m sure only few will understand. My mental health advocacy starts with self. I woke up yesterday morning with a tight grip around my body, two handfuls of something I couldn’t define, someone whose future I could not predict. All I knew was that I didn’t want to let go. What I held had purpose, favor even, and that sentiment didn’t always live inside me. It was a new feeling. It felt like a promise to myself that ‘tomorrow’ would come, if I had any say so in the matter. I’m not talking self preservation, rather, self love. I was excited for the opportunity to see and feel and love at new levels. I woke up ready to truly BE seen, BE felt, and to receive love from myself and others. I challenge you all: Take the time out today to hug yourself. Feel yourself, the physical and spiritual power that is in you… that IS you. “Loneliness” - PoetikLee Speaking Yesterday I was fine. Today though, I’m tired of being lonely. My story reads as A romance missing The intimate love scene; Heartfelt conversations With deaf friends, And loud enemies. A certain uncertainty Of self. What does it mean to feel Alone from yourself; When the love inside you Keeps its distance As a safeguard; When your potential And your reality Fight to the death To claim your future? I wonder sometimes If I’m the only one That can feel my heart d i s in t e g r a t e String By string, A harp missing it’s Melo y D Yet continuously strummed And plucked from between My empty lungs. And I allow it, Because when those strings vibrate, It’s the only time I feel alive. Like my higher being is listening, Hoping... That I hear what I need. I need To hear you say “l love you��� . . . back. But today, I’d simply settle for your Pretending. Last night scared the sh*t outta me. Leaving work after 2am, heading home in the fast lane, I came head to head with a car driving the wrong way on the freeway, barreling toward me. I was looking at my phone. No seatbelt on, just tired from the exhausting weekend I barely managed to get through. Normally ‘I’m seatbelt on, 10 and 2’, but last night… I was in total violation. But GOD!!!! I heard a voice that said “pay attention, fool!” And I looked up just in time to see the car and swerve out of danger, just to watch him plow into someone else in my rearview. There are consequences to closing your audio and visual awarenesses. Even more importantly, there are consequences for shutting off you spiritual awareness.
