Sorry for the incoming wall of text. But you act as if people were attacking you, from the post I've seen most people had a calm response, the few that weren't as calm never really attacked you straight up. Simply disagreeing with someone isn't an attack. It's a way to start a conversation and talk.
With that out the way though, I will say, yes you can critique art to a degree without being an artist in the way you can taste if a dish is bad without being a chef. But you do understand there will be things you don't understand yet? And before you assume I'm saying "you're art is bad" or anything like that. I'm not. Plan and simple, I'm just saying it's obvious you're a fairly new artist, your style is cute and I can tell what you're going for, but it's evident you're not an artist who's done a lot of study on more complex anatomy. Your characters heads are usually front facing from what I've seen, and you don't draw hands. And AGAIN, that is not me saying it's a bad thing, that's a stylistic choice. But considering how you draw front facing heads I feel it's safe to assume you may not know the ins and out of how eye shape can change on a face at different angles, how the skull affects the face and it's contours, and so on and so forth. It can be easy to call something you don't understand weird looking because you don't know how it's supposed to look.
Your heart is in the right place keeping an eye out for AI art, but you should be wary of accusing hardworking artists who spend hours on their work, of using Ai simply because they made a few shortcuts in their artwork. We're humans, were imperfect, as such our art will be imperfect.
You started your post saying you THINK it might be AI, implying you'd be open to the idea that maybe it's not as well, but it seems obvious you're very steadfast in your theory considering you nuked the original post from your blog simply because people started disagreeing. I'll just leave it at that, I'd hope we'd be able to have a civil discussion but I'm assuming you're just gonna block me and see this as another attack.
*peeks out of my bomb shelter* Should I post this or will people beat me with hammers
Anyways this is your hourly reminder that just because someone has an art take that you Don't Personally Like that doesn't automatically mean they know nothing about art 👍
And also just because someone doesn't know things about art that doesn't automatically make their criticism invalid buttttt people don't like having that conversation apparently
(More info about this design under the cut!)
Okay, so my goal with this design was to change up Flower's base design a bit while still keeping her recognizable as Flower, something that CiFlower's official design tried to do and failed miserably.
First of all, Ci having longer hair isn't the thing that makes her a poorly-designed Flower! In fact, if you look at V3 and even TalkFlower, they both have longer hair. The issue with Ci's hair, in my opinion, is that it just looks too clean-cut. Every other Flower's hair is a bit more scruffy, so that's what I tried to go for here. I also kept the double purple streaks, because that's one of the few parts of Ci's design that I actually kinda like.
Anyways, onto the outfit. I did base this more on V4 than anything else, but I wanted to keep the design unique in its own right, kind of like what Talk did. Like Talk, I decided to make her design more casual than V3 and V4, but I also decided to give it almost a bit of a Japanese goth-punk influence, instead of the generic J-fashion streetwear the original Ci had (that I'm apparently racist for critiquing???). Like I said about the hair, the original outfit just looks too clean and generic for a character like Flower, so I made it more "edgy" (for lack of a better word) and asymmetrical. Listen, just because I don't appreciate the inconsistencies of Ci's original design, that doesn't mean I hate asymmetry. C'mon guys, my favorite Vocal Synth design is literally Fukase. Why would you think I hate asymmetry?
As for the colors, again, I based it mostly on V4, but I wanted to make it more unique. I love the light red highlights in that design, so I wanted to make that color a bit more prominent here. I added it to the hair since I liked the gradient in Ci's original design, I made her eyes that color since I liked the idea of a color other than purple to make her eyes stand out, but the icy-blue that Ci has just doesn't look right, and I put it in a few other places as well. The reason why there isn't a whole lot of that orchid color that's so prominent in V4's design is because I just don't think it looks that good with the other, more bluish purples. Hopefully the colors here are a bit more coherent.
Finally, one more thing: before anyone tries to clown on me by saying "Now I'M not SAYING Meme-Lorbius's CiFlower design was made by and AI BUTTTTT how do you explain THIS", here's proof that I drew this myself. I didn't think I'd ever have to do this, but I know that a bunch of CiFlower simps are gonna try to pull that shit. The program I use is Sony Sketch. Now please don't bother me.
