Luigi Mangione's lawyer is SO good

like, she didn't miss a beat in the arraignment, calling out the police, the perp walk, the mayor...

I hope this trial is televised tbh. i will not miss a second of it if it is

ETA: ANNNNDDD calling out the mayor for not using the word "alleged".. YES!

I get SOO annoyed whenever people complain about the media using the word "alleged", especially when there is video footage of the crime happening... people complain that it's some sort of media bias, and not like... straight up a VIOLATION OF A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT if they don't say "alleged"

The presumption of innocence is a right. Luigi's rights have been violated repeatedly in this regard.

And possibly also his right to a fair trial, since they are creating SO MUCH bias against him

I love how we, as a species, are slowly realizing that the natural world and the other beings we share it with is much more sentient and human-like than we first thought, and now we have to grapple with that. Anyone who's kept insects as pets can tell you that they have unique personalities and mannerisms. Scientific developments and books like The Light Eaters have proven that plants are remarkably sentient and communicate with one another. Fungi communicate using electric impulses that are "shockingly similar to human speech". It's so much easier for us to pretend that these things are inpersonal and completely inhuman because it makes us feel better about exploiting them, but now that we're learning how sentient they actually are we need to come to terms with that and figure out how we treat them moving forwards. It's just really fascinating to me

and while we're on the subject of luigi mangione, FREE NATHAN MAHONEY (who alledgedly* stabbed his company's ceo during a meeting)! the reason you may not have heard this name is because the police clearly do not want to make the same mistake they did with Mangione by allowing him to become a symbol. let's show our support for Nathan Mahoney, who looks exactly how he should in his mugshot— proud of himself

edit: the stabbed was the company’s president* not ceo, and the company (Anderson Express) manufactures vehicles for the US military

edit 2: to add on, the US military at this time sends much of its supplies to apartheid Israel in the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their country. this company was indirectly but most certainly harming and killing Palestinians.
