One thing that most people fail to understand about having abusive parents is that they aren’t always terrible or horrifying. Sometimes they’re fine and calm and sometimes they even buy you gifts or take you on trips or get you ice cream when you’re sad. The thing is, abusive parents don’t want to always hurt you. They want to make you feel good sometimes so they can make you feel bad for hating them.

They want to make you think that they’re really the good guy.

They want to make you think that you’re wrong for being upset.

But the thing is, you don’t know when they’ll snap again. You don’t know when they will stop feeding you and yell at you for walking too loudly upstairs or call you worthless or yell slurs at you or threaten to kick you or hurt your pets again.

You can’t always stay on your toes and be prepared for everything. After years and years of dealing with it, it gets exhausting trying to stay on top of everything all the time.

Living in an abusive household isn’t always scary. Sometimes it’s just exhausting. It’s impossible to always stay on your feet and sometimes all you can do is sit down amidst all of the noise and chaos and pain and try to plug your ears the best you can.

Living in an abusive household is absolute Hell, but it isn’t always chaotic. Sometimes it’s just tiring.

pride should not have ticket prices. pride should not have cishet people in the spotlight instead of lgbt+ people. pride should not be just another party that straight people gravitate towards for the music and to treat lgbt+ people like we’re a zoo.

this is extremely personal but I’m 21 and I’m not even in a safe enough place to go to Pride yet. I’ve ID’d as gay and trans since I was about 14 and I still can’t go to pride and know I’ll come home to a safe bed to sleep in and wake up to loving parents and it’s so exhausting to go to work the next day and hear that Homophobic Hannah can’t come in because she’s so hungover from ~partying at pride~ all night when any other night of the year she thinks I’m God’s Mistake and that I should shut up about liking girls. it’s disgusting that straight people can be safer at Pride than gay people. it’s not for you.

So I started watching Brooklyn 99 and I’m only like three episodes in but Jake Peralta is like??? such an ADHD icon???? I mean

has his own organization system that no one else really understands 

fidgeting, always, like, always

ALWAYS talking, usually to say that he just figured something out or remembered something unrelated to the situation at hand 

like in the first episode he interrupts the arrest and is like “Oh my god I just figured it out!” like not the best time

that desk is a MESS but it’s a system he understands 

incredibly bored by repetitive tasks such as paperwork 

constantly taking on a new case (starting a new project)

Sometimes I feel a little guilty that I read fanfiction way more than I read actual books nowadays, but then I realize why.

It’s not just about my ships being canon. It’s about great, well written stories where the characters are LGBTQ. Fanfiction has way more representation than actual books and I love it.

If I want to read an actual book with LGBTQ characters, it’s going to be a dramatic coming of age thing or a side character where their identity is heavily coded/barely mentioned.

With fanfiction, I can read space operas, high fantasy, rom coms, horror, or whatever  and the characters being LGBQ, while important and part of who the characters are, is not the entire plot.

 It’s part of why I liked the Captive Prince. I get gay/bi rep, but I also get an interesting story of betrayal and war and intrigue. I shouldn’t have to read coming of age novels in order to get LGBTQ characters.

And that is why I love fanfiction.
