Dear #bed stripping you today was a very sad moment. You were the most solid thing this school year. I was blessed when I received two beds on a college campus and I am eternally grateful to housing. Even if I had a shitty night on duty I had my huge ass bed to look forward to. Leaving you everyday in the morning (sometimes afternoon) was so difficult because I couldn't just flip over like in a twin size bed I had to flip over like 5 or 6 times, it was so much effort to leave you. Whenever I wasn't with you, I thought of you. You took over half my room and my heart. #dorm #heartfeltgoodbye #loveyou #missyou

4.5% of the men in the United States is an incredibly high number – that translates into over six million men. If you added up every US citizen who was officially unemployed or looking for work in 2001, that would be less than the total number of rapists. If you added up every US citizen who is Jewish, that would still be less than the total number of rapists. If you added up every teenage boy who had any sort of job – an afterschool job, a summer job, working full-time after dropping out, including all of those – you’d still have over a million fewer people then the total number of rapists. There are twice as many rapists in the USA as there are single mothers. For every drunk driver who is in a fatal accident this year, there are over 500 rapists. If you take every doctor and nurse in the United States; and you added them to every librarian, every cashier, every cop, every postal clerk, and every bank teller in the whole country; you still wouldn’t have as many people as the number of rapists in the United States. (Think of that a second – think of how often, in your daily life, you’ve seen cops and cashiers and all those other folks. Odds are, you’ve run into rapists more often than that). To paraphrase Tim Wise: In short, “only” 4.5% of the male population is a lot of people, so that even by the most optimistic assessment of how many men are rapists, there are literally millions out there who not only would but have raped a woman. When combined with those who are less vicious – those who haven’t raped, but would be willing to in the right circumstances, and those who would make excuses for why other men rape, it becomes clear just how real a widespread a problem rape and rape-supportive attitudes are among men today.

Only an honorable man treats women with honor and integrity, and only a vile and dishonorable man humiliates and degrades women.

[pre-gifs] “…So, she [Paris Hilton] was a very wealthy woman, [initially] not that well known and then she gets to mega-stardom. How? The sex tape. Which was made by her boyfriend at the time, who was married, and thirteen years her senior. She sued to try and stop it [the tape’s circulation] and she couldn’t and it became the best selling sex tape for two years on the porn market.”

UPDATE: This petition must get 100,000 signatures by December 24th of this year! Boost this as much as you possibly can and make sure to sign!
In 31 states, rapists are allowed to sue victims they’ve impregnated for custody rights.
There’s a case in Boston, MA right now in which a rapist is taking advantage of this. He pleaded guilty of rape in 2011 and was sentenced to 16 years probation; however, this sentence includes 16 years of family court as well, which the victim must also attend. He’s using this to sue for joint custody of her child and will only withdraw his law suit if he is free from paying any form of child support. This entire sentence seems like much more of a punishment for the victim than it is for the rapist, and for the state to allow such a thing, the victim is suing.
As stated in the court complaint, “Even if the family court ruled in the [victim]’s favor on issues currently in dispute, such as whether the criminal defendant should be granted visitation rights to [her] child, [she] will suffer harm from the constant threat of new issues arising in family court until her child reaches adulthood, including, for example, efforts by the criminal defendant to seek to modify child support orders and enforce his parental rights at the trial court level and on appeal.”
If this woman is forced to attend 16 years of family court with her rapist, she is not only forced to confront a traumatic event that she should never have to deal with again, but she is subjected to the possibility of losing pieces of her child to him over and over again for all of those years. In addition to this constant state of fear and anguish she would face, just by being sent to something considered ‘family’ court—for her and her rapist—she’s being disrespected and her rape undermined by even the suggestion that this is a family situation. By doing this, the law is making felony into family.
In 31 states, rapists are actually given rights instead of having much of anything taken away. In being given these rights, they are being given the chance to further torment the woman and possibly abuse the child. It is not okay to reward rapists and further punish victims, and the ignorance of rape and how our justice system is handling it needs to turn around.
Please sign this petition to ban rapists from being able to sue for custody rights. This issue is so little known, yet so important, and I don’t know any better way of trying to make this change. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/ban-rapists-being-able-sue-their-impregnated-victims-custody-rights/C23pKYgM

Angelina Jolie has appealed to the United Nations Security Council to try and stop sexual violence in war zones. The actress, who is also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, told members it was “their responsibility” to act. She said: “Rape is a tool of war. It is an act of aggression and a crime against humanity.”
"It is inflicted intentionally to destroy the woman, the family and the community. It ruins lives and fuels conflict.
The United Nations charter is clear. You, the Security Council, have primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.”
After Angelina spoke, the UN Security Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution recognising that rape can exacerbate conflicts and delay peace. (Report by Sarah Johnston).
