There is something really, uh, telling, about how Jimmy Carter’s presidency was widely considered to be a “failure,” and he also is INARGUABLY the U.S. president who has done the most to promote human rights around the world.

It’s extremely telling, about the U.S. nation-state as a political project and institution, about the federal government as a structure, about the nature of imperialism.

To reference a friend of mine, he was the only U.S. President alive in our lifetime who could avoid the International Criminal Court.

I see several people saying that the killing of the health insurance CEO Brian Thompson didn't change anything.

That's not true at all. It made all the other health insurance and other CEO's incredibly nervous. So nervous that they immediately stopped denying so many claims AND Blue Cross Blue Shield HALTED their plan to stop covering all of patients' anesthesia during surgery in two states if the surgery goes beyond a timeframe they arbitrarily decide upon.

That's not nothing, that's fucking fantastic.

Obviously killing is wrong, but making other evil-ass people with many thousands of times more blood on their hands think twice about treating human life as expendable, even for a moment, and uniting people on both sides of the political spectrum against a common enemy who's been responsible for so much death and suffering is fantastic
