HC questions: Does Minthara believe in love, or has she come to see all relationships as transactions and alliances? Has she ever experienced genuine affection? Does Minthara have any personal quirks?

Minthara largely views anything casual as a transaction and that has been most of her relationships regardless of the nature. However, she does believe in things deeper than that and by extension love, though she is deeply guarded about this. You have to prove yourself to her in some arbitrary way to earn her trust and by extension get promoted from "ally" to "friend". Sometimes even she isn't fully aware of what its going to take for someone to enter her heart. On day she just realizes living without the person is drastically worse than living with them and finds she had let them get under her skin. For better or worse they are stuck with her until they burn that bridge or they die.

Minthara views effection very weirdly so the answer is both yes and no? In her mind she has only ever gotten genuine affection from her first and currently only love, the priestess she fell for that she then had to kill, but that was not your typical relationship so what classified as affection ranges from longing glances across a ball room to heated passion in her garden. She believes what she had in the moment with her past love was genuine however she also believes that it was a double edged sword with the other side being a waiting malicious intent that she ended up being the one to deliver. When it comes to the party in bg3 she would view Karlach fighting to protect her as genuine affection but would view it as pity from someone like lae'zel. TLDR: yes but being in a murder society leaves you having weird views of what counts as genuine affection.

She has many! Her biggest one, at least how i play her, is her need to verbalize her thoughts. Its how she shows closeness/ 'friendliness'to people but a lot of the times its kind of rude if not out right demeaning. She is also very visually expressive despite looking perma grumpy most of the time. She is also kind of like a crow and enjoys leaving little trinkets or gifts for people/the party when they do something for her or makes her happy and this includes sliding self-made potions into their bags!

Out of the martial classes Minthara respects rogues and fighters the most. She deeply appreciates the skill of an assassin, admiring the more honed thief over the cut purse. For fighters she mainly admires the training and efforts to get to where they are both physically and status wise. Minthara is also someone who finds use in mastering, or at least becoming well familiar, with as many related skills as possible aka she likes multiclassers.

She may make you 'prove' yourself to her, getting you to spare with her or let her see you 'work'. Even if you don't meet her expectations or lose to her in some way she does praise you...though in a 'mother with overly high standards' way.

Body Headcanon

Minthara would enjoy some scarification but the fine delicate kind that you have to be super careful with or the design won't heal properly. She adores artful designs, in any body mod including tattoos, and the more complicated they are the more admiration she has for the person with it. It does go to say that yes, she finds all these attractive, however she quickly views it as dumb and reckless if it affects their abilities in any way. Modify yourself as you wish but if you want her respecting it make sure it doesn't alter your ability to fight or thrive.

She is more picky about this on herself despite enjoying it due to repressed memories she can't quite place.

Minthara would deeply enjoy games like potionomics, rimworld, stardew valley (though she won't admit it), and any management game that's got a neat premise. She also enjoys farming games in her down time as well as competitive games here and there.

Minthara likes tea a lot however rarely drinks it due to how easy it is to slip poisons into it. She either carefully prepares it herself or watches others do it like a hawk. Her favorite teas are more aromatic ones that she often doesn't add sweetners to.

Minthara out right bullying of spell casters is mostly because she doesn't trust them. She knows from first hand experience how powerful one can be, via witnessing it, but an itching crawling feeling in the back of her skull screams danger too. Maybe its the fact she hates her mind being altered and these people can do it so easily or maybe its some rooted resentment for people who get the easy way out and didn't have to fight to be special. Who knows, she doesn't but she goes forth with her prejudice all the same.

Minthara is scaringly good at identifying nearly any flora around her and will happily list its herbal (usually poison) properties should you talk to her when shes in a good mood. The woman could not be a medic if she tried, her bed side manner is horrible, but she can easily correct what herbs are used for what and how to prepare them. In the party she takes it upon herself to sort through the plants they've gathered, making everything into neat bundles sorted by their uses. More rarer ingredients she will take clippings or seeds from to grow more, acting stingy when others ask for them for potions and the like despite she has more than enough.

Brewing wise she is a snob about others concoctions but very rarely make any for the party herself unless they've managed to crack her out of her shell more. She does always make ample poisons and antidotes for herself and will slip them into her partners bag occasionally.

"If you do not require it then why are yours the way they are?" Minthara could understand the comparison but she was no spell caster. Unless it was clearly messy or chaotic all spells were the same to her. To her he cast no different than any other wizard of his assumed skill level. "If it is an unneeded eccentricity that can be supplemented for training harder then why have them in the first place? Surely there are better uses for such things. You could be a weaver or a tailor and find just as much use I'm sure."

Minthara bit her tongue as she avoided comparing his skills to the thread weavers back home. Lolth priestesses had fingers as fine and delicate as a spiders, able to pluck both the harp and a life with a dangerous lethality. Despite her now distaste for the goddess, Minthara still held high respect for her priestesses. Human fingers were no comparison to a drow's, let alone a human male's, but she didn't need to tell him that while he could so easily snap her neck.

"Tell me wizard," without any other wizards near she could address him more easily as such. Specifying 'the purple' wizard was too vague most days. On days she was in a good mood he was 'the lilac one'. She liked lilac, it was one of the less offensives shades of purple. "Does spell casting require your hands to be this...nimble?"

Minthara didn't really know what to call a man's hands that wasn't demeaning nor did she know how to properly ask if spell casting is what made his hands fluid. She had known many wizards in her time, some great and some not, but she'd never bothered to get to know them or their workings. The paladin knew how to kill them effectively and that's all that really mattered in the end. How quickly one could die was the measure of their effectiveness in battle and, to her, wizards were wimpy to sum it up lightly.

Despite her distaste for the usefulness of a male wizard, she still was always keen to learn and this one seemed...pliable.
