This blog started solely as an outlet to share old school pics of MENA leaders. It has advanced to something more all-encompassing of the region and a place to share travel photos. I hope you enjoy these photos regardless of your politics or background. I’m just a Western girl who is obsessed with the MENA region and politics. This blog is not to support any one politician or idelogy, but just fun with history and photos. Inbox me if you want me to include a picture.

The body of prominent Syrian professor Dr. Rasha Nasser was found with fingers cut off. She was basically abducted and tortured. This is the kind of country that the entire Western world backed in the name of “democracy.”
What a beautiful woman and what a tragedy.

Hafez looks like a classic English actor - look up Miles Mander and Henry McGee
It's also been pointed out to me that Bashar has African hair
Yes!!! Agree. Hafez does look similar to them, especially the shape of the face and all. Bashar had lighter wavier hair when he was young, but it seems to have gotten darker as he got older. I still think it’s not very curly curly.

The problem with Jolani is he is too good looking. I hate to say it because I strongly disagree with his politics and what’s happening in many Alawite villages in Syria now. Syria has not become the free society that Westerners predicted it would be when Assad left. Jolani is handsome though and a 10/10. Assad is also handsome, but in a different way. Assad’s eyes are piercing while Jolani is handsome in a way that’s almost forbidden. You figure the guy may have multiple wives. He may not respect a Western woman in the way we would want to be respected, but you can’t stop looking at him and fantasizing that you can somehow change him. I do wonder every side of him though considering he comes from a wealthier family who seemed pretty open. I wonder what led him to take the path he took. Those military clothes on him are something too.
Jolani’s look is also hard to pin down. Assad has a more universal look and I felt he could pass even Greece or Southern Europe in general including even Italy. At the same time, from some angles he looked Eastern European. This is a common look I find amongst the Alawite and some anthropologists have speculated whether they have Kartvelian origins. Others believe their religion has elements of Greek mythology, so maybe there may be some of that. I remember the first time I learned who Hafez al Assad was… I was in my early 20s with my host driving me around Northern Lebanon. Some of the most beautiful days of my life in Lebanon. I saw a poster of an old man plastered everywhere in this neighborhood that I later found out was Jabal Mohsen. I wondered in my head if the man was maybe an old French or English ambassador who perhaps did good for the community. I asked my host why all these posters of this man. My host said that was the old Syrian president, Hafez al Assad who was Alawite and that this area was an Alawite area. I was shocked the guy was Syrian. Hafez, even more than his sons definitely had vibes that could easily pass in Europe.
Now Jolani on the other hand has a more eastern shifted look which I also find handsome, but at the same time he doesn’t fit in with Khaleeji men or even Jordanians. I guess the Levant is really a diverse region with diverse looks.
I also feel Saddam with his amazing hairline had a look that could fit in parts of Iran and recently I found out Iraqis are the Arabs most genetically related to Iranians. Iranians and Iraqis seem to have good hair.

Not sure where this is from or the time period, but here is Bashar and Asma in a nursery. It appears to be security footage.

AI fantasy. Sort of like a Syrian western film. I love Grok. It’s still not perfect, but pretty good. I wanted it to draw Assad on a horse on the way to Damascus and Jolani aka Ahmed al Sharaa on a horse on the way to Damascus. It still doesn’t know how to draw Jolani and drew him distant, but I think Assad is perfect. Looks so much like him!
