Spoilers for the Mumbo trial but Doc getting sent back to skyblock is objectively the funniest thing that could have come out of this case

Y'all I'm listening to a Joe Hills stream right now and it's wild. Apparently some guy who owns both wordpress and tumblr is getting sued for something or other and the man, the lad, Joe Hills himself was cited in an injunction. Something about the dude replying to a comment Joe made and partially incriminating himself. I don't understand half of what's going on but this is great

I didn't say anything at the time on account of my brain being too busy wobbling about like jello in one of those no-spill kids bowls rolling down a hill, so now I just have this knowledge
Strorytime! So a few years ago when I told my mom I'm probably ace, it naturally took a bit to explain what that means. The difference between ace and normal attraction, and what bits I feel and do not feel as compared to what has been presented to me as apparently other people's norm. Her response:
"oh honey. You're not ace. Everyone feels that way"
..bruh It's been actual years and I still haven't recovered from that response. Like, do I tell her?

i know grian said he didn't know who got what powers (other than his own), but either he was lying about that or whoever did assign them knew exactly what they were doing because they feel like they've been made FOR them.
some of them are really obvious, like bdubs controlling time (both through speed and by sleeping), cleo getting to raise the dead (and grian getting to see skizz and mumbo again as a result), pearl getting to fly (arent her goggles and wings so moth-like? they are to me) and lizzie being a literal Shadow Lady. joel, bigb and scar all got powers that connect to their characters this season, like joel's affinity to parkour and bigb's whole creaking deal and scar really wanting to punch people far (and he's making a rollercoaster. what do you do with rollercoasters? you ride them...). etho "did that make you jump" slab gets to (literally) jumpscare everyone on the server and of course theatre kid rendog gets to pretend to be other people (he's also one of the few people who subbed in for another player during a prior season).
martyn's fits his lore as listener so well, grian's got the most watcher-like abilities of them all, and gem getting being able to see traps and communicate with the dead (one of whom is only there because he tried too hard to kill her) is brilliant with how she plays the game like she's got more control than anyone else (hello watcher/listener...?). finding connections with scott and impulse's powers might be more of a reach but to me they fit well because scott generally comes across as harmless and peaceful but he's also almost literally become a sacrificial lamb, and impulse switching places with other people makes me think of third life and his double crossing playing both sides schemes.
tango's might be my favourite because the frostwalker ability is so decked out deepfrost citadel to me, and he also gets to flee with extra flee (my personal favourite catchphrase of his). also (not to overanalyse) jimmy's power fits so well into his overall narrative as a canary who's broken his curse: he's never made it to a final episode, he's been grian's guardian angel (always watching, never seen) and with the canary gone from the mines there's nothing to warn the others so they're dead before they realise they're in danger.

The hide ad button on facebook now has "knows too much" and "too personal" as valid reasons. This feels like something with a story. What dark magic is happening on facebook? I'm now going to push this on every ad that uses any shady marketing tactics (all of them)

A moment of appreciation for whoever assigned the powers, cuz it wasn't Grian (he didn't know about Martin or Cleo) and it definitely wasn't random. Like, Ren the actor, Cleo and the zombies, sleeping Bdubs. Thank you random person. We love you

Thinking about how they absolutely could not have done this one with any dark greens left. Not only would they die almost immediately from whichever physical power got figured out fastest, someone would also have to figure out who got all of Mumbo's kills and that's just too much power for any one person

So as of writing this, we haven't gotten Grian's episode yet, but I'm getting the vibes that he knows what powers there are but not who has them, and I gotta say, taking that and making him a power mimic was the cleverest balancing move I think I've ever seen.
That power would have just been frustrating for anyone else, not knowing what's available or how anything works, but for mister set-everything-up the relearn a new power every five minutes issue is gone.
AND having him not know who has what to start with actively rewards him for the inevitable people asking him about the less obvious ones. Helping them out is no longer lost time for him, it's info gathering. They done rebalanced the game master and it's mechanics-wise just so GOOD

It's also what gave dsmp that sticking power for me. I came in just watching Techno's POV, but then later I was like, wait something was happening over here with Tommy. Why's he exiled? What's all this about? And from there I dug into clingyduo, then why the disks were so important, and wait, Karl was doing things? ad infinitum
I still don't know what was going on with Las Nevadas Quackity or Ranboo's panic rooms but I know both of them had really big arcs going and I fully intend to dig into them one day. The intricacy of all the overlapping plotlines growing at once and genuinely affecting each other. Traditional media WISHES
the dsmp is not one centralized story and thats important tbh.
like ok. the vast majority of these creators did not walk into this expecting to be playing a character supporting someone else's narrative. each perspective brings something new and interesting to the world and that's important! there is no one singular main character of the server! because there are 30 fucking perspectives you could be watching from and each of those characters is going to have their own arc and their own way of interacting with the world and other characters stories!
so much of the things that made dsmp interesting and unique were the ways it used the medium of being livestreamed on twitch to change how viewers engaged with it. trying to flatten it to just one story does a massive disservice not only to the work that so many creators put into fleshing out their characters and telling their own stories, but also strips the world of so much of what made it interesting and unique.

I think they sorta just stumbled onto it but bro, that storytelling style was really important to dsmp
All the individual streamers are their own protagonist. You can just pick some dude your favorite POV person interacted with once and they’ve probably got their own whole thing going on. Yet all these personal arcs and plotlines still stick close enough to each other (cuz streamers wanna participate in those big events) that all of them weave together and in and out of these major beats to make a mostly coherent whole and it’s really heckin cool.
the dsmp is not one centralized story and thats important tbh.

Everyone knows that 3 of the 4 'G's are gaslight gatekeep and girlboss for cleo pearl and scott, but the fact that depending on who you ask impulse is either 'girldad' or just straight up 'guy' will never not be funny to me
