I’m sorry but something needs to be said once and for good. 

I don’t know if you guys have heard about it but a few days ago another terrorist attack happened here in France. An officer who happened to be at the place of the attack, Arnaud Beltrame, exchanged himself as an hostage to save a woman. He died to save someone from the barbaric grasp of a terrorist. He died as an heroe of the Nation. 

I know some people in the Eurovision fandom think that the fans of Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro and just a bunch of girls fangirling over handsome men and their (what they call) average song. And I’m honestly feeling so hurt by these words. I don’t love Non mi avete fatto niente because of Ermal’s amazingly fluffy hair or Fabri’s charming smile. What kind of person do you have to be to think this song is only worth listening to because the singers have beautiful faces ? Just because oustide of the song we’re appreciating them as humans you believe that this is only because of that that we’re loving the song ? This argument goes beyond my comprehension.

I love Non mi avete fatto niente because the lyrics are like the scream my country has been shouting out loud for many years. For some of you terrorism is something that you see on TV, happening to your neighbour countries, something far away that you feel disconnected to. For me, terrorism is something that is happening at my window. It’s a mix of anger, pain, fear. It’s people falling because of hatred. It’s also hundreds of people leaving their countries to ask ours some help and the security they can’t have where they’re from. 

You think that Non mi avete fatto niente is overrated ? That’s you right. You think the message of this song is “unnecessary and divisive” ? Fine. But then that’s also my right to tell you that you’re wrong and to express how much this song is important, and how some people like me deeply needed it because it gives us hope in the middle of all the chaos here. Don’t dismiss it because you’re not enjoying the melody.

Think about this, and think about all these people who died, like Arnaud Beltrame. Remember them.
