Location: A fancy pants hotel bar
One of the benefits of a promotion to escort, was the extension of her reins. Instead of lingering by the brothel she was based at, she was able to visit clients in their own homes or out in the city. It didn’t sound like much of an advantage, but it still felt like progress, like potential freedom.  Case in point, being able to sit at the bar after an appointment and excuse it as marketing for new clients. In reality she was doing that, but she was also enjoying the safety of such a lauded venue. No one, not even a Kovali, would seek to harm her with so many influential and reknowned spectators. It was nice to feel comfort for even a moment.
Tumblr media
Only that was interrupted rather abruptly by the man roughly gripping her arm. She would always be proven wrong in hope.  Her drink, a very sedate apple juice, sloshed over the side of the glass and over her hand. She had to swap it to her free arm so she could set down the hazard.  Was scanning from the side of her eye, about to make an attempt to shift so she could estimate who the man was, when he spoke to remove the necessity. Hotel security allegedly, just taking out the trash, and informing it (her) not to make a scene.  It was never enjoyable to be judged, or made to feel ashamed, but this time it was sadly amusing. She had done everything right, been incredibly subtle when exiting the hotel room, was dressed like she belonged, and certainly had the experience of keeping secrets and manipulating perspective. She was an informant for goodness sake. So the only reasonable conclusion was that someone had known. The security guard confirmed as much when pulling her along with him to the exit. She had to bite her tongue from asking how it would be that the man knew, or why it was that he wasn’t being chucked out for his experiences with her. Apparently desperate and undignified clients were immune to criticism. They’re almost to the door, Azra’s heels slipping as she tries to keep pace, when her attachment stalls. His grip stings but it’s the only thing that keeps her from stumbling.  They had fallen into the path of someone entering from the lobby, and so the guard tugged at Azra to step out of the way.

Having finished her business meeting, Meliha was walking through the lobby towards the door to the parking garage with Mike when her eyes narrowed at a situation unfolding just outside the hotel bar. Meliha remembered that she had seen her inside earlier in the evening and although she was likely looking to pick up a client, she hadn’t been hurting anyone or causing a scene. When the young woman was pulled out of the way rather roughly, Meliha’s anger surged and she stepped in.
Holding a hand out and indicating to her security guard that she would handle it herself, he nodded and stepped back. Her smile was bright for the girl and then she turned an angry look at the man holding Azra. “There you are! We’re late for happy hour!”, she said. “I’d appreciate it if you let go of my friend. I won’t ask a second time.”, Meliha openly threatened the man, nodding towards her own security. When he seemed to study Meliha and then reluctantly let her go, Meliha slipped her arm through the other woman’s and began to walk back inside with her. “Come, if I hadn’t had to come find you, I’d already be on my second drink by now!”, she said, making sure the guard heard it clearly.

emmettrook‌:
Despite all the Kovali members who congregated at Purgatory, Emmett had never been much for nightclubs.  The lights were always crazy, he hated most of the music, and–in his humble opinion–the dances didn’t have anything on the two-step and swing he was used to.  But once he’d had several drinks, that didn’t matter.  And after seeing the woman approaching, hips swaying magnetically, the confident stride of someone completely at home on the crowded dance floor and–once his gaze finally reached her face–a smile that could break hearts, he figured he’d do anything she asked him to.  So he grinned back at her, reaching for her hand as much to pull her closer as to greet her, and leaned close to her ear.  “What’s your name?”
Tumblr media
Placing her hand in his, she knew that reaching for her was the answer to her question as she stepped into his personal space. His breath tickled her ear a little as he spoke and she waited just a moment in case he wanted to ask anything else. Looking up at him, she leaned up to his ear to answer. “I’m Meliha. What’s yours, handsome?” Unless they saw each other again at some point, she figured there wasn’t much of a reason to give him her full name. Besides, he likely would know of Mardin & Sons and she’d rather not have her thinking of that when she wanted to dance with him and to have a good time. If they danced for long, he might notice the tall man in a suit watching her, and she could always explain then, but her security team excelled at staying nearby while remaining unobtrusive.

By now, Alp had learned that whenever his boss set her mind to something, she usually got it–but that didn’t always mean it was easy.  He’d done enough research to give her plenty of ammunition, but for a while he’d wondered if it would be enough…until Meliha smoothed the gaps with charm.  So he nodded at her assessment, closing the door after her and taking his place in the driver’s seat.
Amusement crinkled the corners of his eyes as he glanced back at her, but he knew the considerations that would normally influence his choice, things like price and distance, would mean little to her.  “Below Zero has both,” he said.  “And it’s not too far from your 4:30 meeting.”  It was going on three now, and as traffic picked up, they wouldn’t be able to linger too long.  “All right?”
Tumblr media
Giving a small smile and a nod as she looked through her notes, she murmured, “Sounds perfect.” Meliha truly didn’t have a preference, and it was a good idea to keep the location in mind in case they were delayed when they stopped for their celebratory treats. “Good thinking, Alp.” She perhaps didn’t compliment him as effusively as he deserved for all he did for her, but she paid him well and so far, he hadn’t let her down.
As he began to drive, she was silent a few moments. “If my 4:30 runs long, would you go ahead and cancel my dinner appointment? There’s no way we’d get across town in time and I think I’d rather just go home, maybe pick some food up on the way.”, she requested. Meliha knew she had a dinner appointment or evening plans nearly every day that week and it wouldn’t hurt her to get a bit of extra rest if possible. The meeting that night could be easily rescheduled but the others were more important.

In honour of the Queen’s potential move to a cell, we thought we’d have a little themed inspo to shake off those cobwebs (just in time for Hallowe’en).  Under the cut you’ll find a couple of memes. Feel free to reblog and tag with whichever you’d like to participate in.  There’s also a little writing challenge to freshen things up.
Boxed-in Challenge
Sometimes we can all get a little stifled by routine, so we thought we’d challenge you to break out from that. We’d like you to start a thread with someone new, or someone your character has never interacted with before. If it makes it easier to excuse engaging with the enemy (or anyone)- consider they’re trapped together, their predicament forcing interaction.

Pasting a pleasant smile on her face, Meliha extended her hand in greeting. “Good afternoon, Mr. De La Torre, it’s a pleasure to see you again, as always. What seemed to be the trouble today? Of course, Mardin & Sons strives to deliver world-class service and an excellent experience with every visit.”, she said, hoping it didn’t sound too rehearsed. It flowed off of her tongue from years of practice, and it helped that she meant every word. While it was difficult or even impossible for the various people who used the bank’s services to all get along, it was important for the business to try to smooth over any issues which came up occasionally.

@emmettrook
After the day from Hell that she’d had, Meliha just wanted to forget about it. It was just after seven and she was on her third margarita. She was usually more of a wine gal but for some reason tonight the tequila was what she needed. Getting back out on the dance floor, she made eye contact with a man she didn’t recognize but who seemed so at home there, she figured he would have no problem keeping up with her. As it didn’t seem that he was with anyone just then, Meliha decided to try her luck and approached him with a smile. “Want to dance?”, she said, though he probably couldn’t even hear the words over the music.

After dancing for nearly an hour, losing herself in the music, Meliha finally returned to her seat and ordered a glass of wine. Her bodyguard followed at a discreet distance, then took a seat not far from her. When her beverage was brought to her table, Meliha took a small sip and then checked her cell phone to make sure she hadn’t missed any important texts or phone calls. Even close to midnight, she often had people trying to get ahold of her or questions which needed immediate attention. Putting her phone away, she noticed a woman sitting alone in the booth next to hers, and Meliha nodded and gave her a friendly wave.

@dr-roe-md
Thus far, the evening had been as boring as Meliha had anticipated. The parade of speakers on the stage seemed unending as they thanked the attendants for their donations while encouraging them to dip even deeper into their pockets in the future. Meliha had actually been pleased to have been invited, for it gave her an opportunity to see some of what her monetary gifts contributed towards at the hospital. It also gave her a chance to mingle with some people who she might not otherwise meet, and networking was often an important part of her position at Mardin & Sons.
Throughout the event, she had seen a few familiar faces, but one in particular gave her pause. Things quieted down a bit as the speeches came to a close and the silent auction and dessert buffet and cocktail hour began. Deciding to approach, she took a sip of her champagne, then crossed the room with a friendly smile on her face. “I know this sounds incredibly cliche, but have we met before?”

“Well, that went well.”, Meliha said as she settled into the back of the car then put her purse down next to her and put on her seatbelt. Her words could have been construed as sarcasm, but she truly believed that it couldn’t have gone better. Some people were more difficult to convince than others, and she had a feeling this one would be one of those, but it would be all the more satisfying when it came together, if it did as she expected. “In fact, I feel like this calls for a celebration.”, she decided. Glancing at Alp in the rear-view mirror as he seemed to be waiting for her instructions, she gave him the choice since both appealed to her. “Sorbet or gelato?”

♚MELIHA.MARDIN
“ It’s just business “
✚ AGE & DOB: Thirty-One & December 11th, 1987 ✚ OCCUPATION: Banking Executive with Mardin & Sons ✚ AFFILIATION: Unaffiliated
♛THE HISTORY♛
Born to a wealthy family in 1987, Maliha has one older brother.
Majoring in Economics and International Relations, she graduated from Northwestern University in 2009. She then enrolled in and completed the Kellogg Executive MBA while she began working at Mardin & Sons, graduating in 2012.
January 2013 hired The Shadow
Biometric locks were a great step forward in security enhancements, but created a new danger for those who could access them. A kidnapping attempt when she was twenty-two inspired the need for 24-hour personal security. She agreed, but only if she could choose her own bodyguard. Her first bodyguard lasted nearly four years before he was killed on the job. A little more than a month later, she hired The Shadow and he’s been in her employ since. The team grew to include two others, but The Shadow is in charge.
As a child, she frequently visited her grandfather and father in the offices and boardrooms of Mardin & Sons. She had learned quite a lot about the business before being given a position there upon her graduation from college. When she was younger, she never imagined she’d have such a large role in the company but it grew on her as she learned the business. She liked working for her family’s company and feeling like she was an important part of their legacy. She surprised everyone when she demonstrated not only a knack for the profession but also a very good rapport with people. They began to send her to more and more difficult clients as she earned a name for herself beyond the normal boundaries of the operations of the company, even occasionally making personal loans she knows the bank wouldn’t approve. She’s incredibly eager to prove herself as a woman in a male-dominated field as her father never planned for her to reach such a high position within the company. She was constantly underestimated, so she was determined to prove everyone wrong.
She’s well aware of the irony of the company name and the fact that the daughter is now leading the company instead of her older brother, but she has no patience with those who would try to joke about it or otherwise make light of the hard work it’s taken her to get there and of the skills she possesses. Meliha takes immense pleasure in having people depend on her and owe her both money and favors, and she is not above accepting gifts or bribes in her dealings with business associates. She gets a thrill from the sense of power and the feeling when she makes a good judgment call on who to bankroll, especially when it’s a longshot or risky deal. Meliha pays very close attention and became good at reading people and she’s not afraid to flirt when it suits her purpose, finding that a well-placed compliment or a charming smile can help with negotiations where appropriate. Although she will flirt with them if she feels it might help, she has strict rules against dating the men she has business dealings with due to her desire to keep their respect and their money. She rarely follows up with those who renege on deals or go into default on repaying loans. Mardin & Sons has others who handle it, but she keeps very careful record of it and will shut someone out completely if they try it even once. If she does consider giving them a second chance, the interest rate would be substantially increased and she would let them know in no uncertain terms that she is displeased.
She has a passion for history and art and has a growing collection of impressionist paintings by several masters. She donates to the Art Institute of Chicago to allow more people to see those works of art for free or at a discount. She frequently donates and raises money for the museum so they can continue their work but also so they can have free admission days and other sponsored events. Her philanthropic efforts are not limited to the museum. On rare occasions, she’ll make personal loans which she knows the bank wouldn’t approve. This is not common knowledge and she aims to keep it that way, insisting upon absolute discretion and privacy in all such cases, fearing it could damage her reputation if it was well known that she’s got a bigger heart than she wants those she does business with to believe.
